Good, good. Rafa is entering his "Federer circa 2004 Phase." He'll cut his hair, wear proper shorts, ditch the sleeveless look for collared shirts, and have his girlfriend put on 35 lbs. This will ensure victory at the USO and AO. :rocker2:

I heard Nike told him he can't cut his hair short bc they've build this warrior image around him and a clean haircut wouldn't fit. Don't know if it's true though.

What I do know is that he'll keep playing tennis sleeveless until he retires. :p Or until his arms grow fat instead of muscled.

Wow, really?

Have to say I've got mixed feelings bout it, I was sorta in a love-hate relationship with his 'pirate look', it's one-of-a-kind and trademark Rafa. But am also curious to see a more 'grown-up' style on him, if you know what I mean.

How about a compromise? Rafa could just start to look more like his Mallorcan brother, Carlos Moya--sleeveless with regular shorts:

I don't care about the sleeveless or the haircut (ok, the hair looks better the way it's now) I just wanna that nike make sure that the new shorts is going to be tight... because that ass can't be hide (that is a crime!!!)

Rafa will ostensibly enter his "2004 Fed Phase" in 2009. Raf will turn 23 in 2009 just as Roger turned 23 in 2004. If the trend holds, the cardie will come four years later. :)

You are right about Rafa's lingo, though--he needs to get with the program and start saying "obviously, you know" a lot more often. Also, Rafa will have to state that "it's a pity" in the unlikely event that he actually loses. :D

Xisca needs to stop eating paella and switch to a strictly crema Catalana diet. Okay, fine, she can also have the occasional flan. She definitely needs to lose her tan and also buy larger sunglasses. Then the circle will be complete....

(Sigh) I actually didn't forget about Federer's designer clothing and accessories--I just thought it best to leave that kettle of fish alone. But, yes, Rafa obviously lacks that certain continental chic. No more pasta-"gamba"-mushroom meals. He'll need to significantly broaden his culinary palate.

Normal tennis wear of above the knee shorts and polo shirt is okay. Rafa makes most cloths look good. No cardigans please!:fiery:

If that is to be the 2009 look hopefully Nike fits Rafa better than Lacoste does Roddick. Perhaps Andy would play better tennis if he was not always adjusting his shirt.

I don't really mind if he had a totally different outfit just as long as Nike designs something specially for RAFA. Roger has his line now with the RF logo and all his outfits are personalized whereas Rafa's shirts are not unique Blake, Moya, Feliciano lopez before he signed with Joma all of them wear similar designs to Rafa's.

Hopefully now that Rafa's won Wimbledon Nike will seriously consider creating a new and exclusive line for the mallorcan.

People are making a fuss as they liked the fact that Rafa had his own look and stuck out from the crowd, it's always somehow been part of the whole Rafa aura. It seems he's now just going to be blended in to what everyone else looks like. That's a shame in my opinion and such a boring direction to head towards.

Was personally never bothered by what he wore to practice in, I only look at the clothes he wears for his matches.

Exactly. His look is a way to profile himself, and it's one of a kind. If he's going to dress like everybody else... Sure it'll still be Rafa but he'll make less heads turn (of course not concerning victories; the performances > all, but what I'm trying to say: in articles, etc. there were often references to his outfits and how he comes across bc of them). The thought of him fist-pumping with sleeves isn't as enticing as picturing him doing it without. *pouts*

(On the other hand if it is turned back to front I can think of several members of the WTA who might improve the look.;) )

No, but im getting early word Raf will wear a pink shirt for the clay season.

Well, the bright side is I'll be getting a lot more sleep. There's no way in hell I'll be getting up in the middle of the night to see Rafa in THIS. Back to watching tennis when it's convenient, which here in the USA is . . . rarely. As a woman I feel very insulted that I'm stuck looking at cleavage everywhere including weather reports on the news because "sex sells" but when I want to enjoy the hot bod of a hot man, corporate giants think it's good business to take it away from me. The female audience is highly underappreciated. We are half the world, in case Nike has forgotten. They better be putting the top WTA players in conservative preppy tops too (no more sleeveless on Sharapova, Ivanovic, Serena) or I'll definitely feel like we female viewers are being discriminated against, and anyone else who likes to look at Rafa's arms.

Good, good. Rafa is entering his "Federer circa 2004 Phase." He'll cut his hair, wear proper shorts, ditch the sleeveless look for collared shirts, and have his girlfriend put on 35 lbs. This will ensure victory at the USO and AO. :rocker2:

hilraious! but also with his gf putting on 35 lbs,he should dump her , too. but thats a story for another discussion....

Xristos, why is it I get the feeling you enjoy torturing us?

These clothes suck. Seems to me Nike has completely forgotten that they can't sell tennis shirts if they're chasing away the audience, and most people aren't die-hard fans that will tune in for any and all tennis forever no matter what. Most people just watch stuff on TV when it catches their eye and keeps their interest. Rafa dressed in something this dull and ordinary will cause a lot less eye-catching.

If Rafa really starts dressing in these ugly boring clothes on court, I don't see me continuing to get up at all hours of the night to see him play, especially when I'd spend the entire match screaming vulgarities at Nike. I'll just have to sit around and watch old Rafa matches on tape, just like I'm stuck living in the past with everything else that I used to love that got ruined forever.

I believe the next few days will be a agonizing for you. Will Rafa wear these clothes or not. Should you watch him anymore or not? And since it seems very likely that he will wear these clothes, the first round match of Rafa at Abu Dhabi ( I am guessing here is where he will start off his new outfit) will probably be the last live match of Rafa that you will witness.

Abu Dhabi isn't on TV here, so no worries that it'll be the last I see of him. Doha isn't on TV here either. I don't have to worry about the horror of seeing the clothes on TV until the Australian Open, which will be on live in the middle of the night here, just like most tournaments are.

I didn't say I'd never watch him again, but I have to get a hell of a lot of pleasure out of watching someone in order to get up in the middle of the night for match after match, tournament after tournament like I did this year, and a lot of that pleasure will be taken away if he's wearing these new ugly clothes, (especially since I would be cursing at Nike through the TV the whole time). So I may just start watching him when it's convenient, which would pretty much be back to only slam finals on the weekends. Or maybe not. Who knows? Maybe I'd watch him play even if he's wearing a pink polka dot bunny suit with long ears and a fuzzy tail. But I shouldn't have to.

First Feli's gorgeous arms were lost forever to Joma, and now Rafa's might be taken away from us by Nike? Will they leave us female viewers with nothing?

One thing I know for sure, if Rafa's arms are covered I will NEVER watch another match of other players in sleeveless, whether Del Potro, Blake, Monfils, or ALL the women players. NEVER. If Rafa's gorgeous arms are covered I absolutely refuse to look at anyone else's unpleasant arms hanging out. Refuse!

Yeah, but all the focus will be on his upper arms (ooh, sleeves, that's different) instead of his ass (how many times will he tug his pants) and his whole aura will be ruined. Those shorts look baggier anyway

How a player looks is very important to whether or not I'm going to get all excited about them and devote this much time to them. If it were only about great tennis I would have been a Pete Sampras fan, but he bored me so much I didn't bother watching for like 14 years.

And I wouldn't be here at message boards if I didn't like certain tennis players VERY much. I mean really, most people who watch tennis aren't hanging around online obsessing about it like we are. I have to be really into someone A LOT (whether athlete, actor, or singer, etc.) before I would even think about hanging out online looking for pictures of them and posting on message boards. And I don't get all into someone unless they . . . well . . . to put it bluntly . . . unless I'm rather smitten with them. And generally being smitten comes with enjoying the view A LOT. If the pleasure of the view is diminished then the feelings that come with being smitten are diminished and . . . well . . . watching the person would be a lot less exciting . . . which would lead to things like not getting up in the middle of the night to watch them.

"Your" is the possessive. Such as in the sentence "I like your hat." If you're trying to say "you are", it's "you're." And no. I'm not an idiot for enjoying the view of a male athlete dressed in a way that best shows off his hot bod.

If Rafa's arms are covered by Nike, may all the female celebrities that men enjoy looking at start wearing frumpy pantsuits!

Me either actually... but I don't think anyone can quite pull off the sleeveless shirt like Rafa can. His arms are extra awesome

I believe Nike have done this to me on purpose as punishment for not liking him for so many years. The first year I'll be able to see him live as a fan he'll have sleeves and be wearing baby blue and baby pink :speakles:

Blah, anyway... yes the shirt is hideous but I am not going to be losing sleep over it, it's just a tennis outfit ( :secret: I'm actually going to try to get access to Rafa's bags at some point and cut off all his sleeves ;) )
