Where are all the American players for this event? And for that matter in all of Week 33?

Reynolds, Kendrick, Delic, Levine, Kim, Russell, Evans and Jenkins could have earned direct entry to this event, but didn't. There are no Americans that are listed as direct acceptance for any of the events on week 33, despite 4 hard court tournaments, one in the States.

Is there something going on I missed, or did they all just decide to take this week off? Perhaps they will be at home watching the Olympics like me, but somehow I doubt that as an explanation.

I think Reynolds will get a direct entry into Washington. There's no way Levine is playing these smaller Challengers now as he's doing well at the big stage, so he'll do qualifying there in case he doesn't get a wild card.

Others will probably try for Washington wild cards or qualies.

Is Devvarman going to try to get a wild card or special entry into the event?

For a special exempt he needs to play next week, and then still be in the singles competition in one of the events on Friday.

Russell is injured but other than that I'm wondering the exact same thing
Binghamton is kinda lacking these guys too, I don't get it. I know they want to rest but there are points to be gained :o

Hilarious and crazy at the same time that there were no Americans on the list, so it's nice to see that the wildcards were obviously used to fix that.
Well done so far in qualies:

:rain: Its raining in the Bronx. The rain started around 3:30 and its still raining so I'm assuming that play hasn't started again.

Ilia did win. It was 6-4 in the first set, can't remember the second set score. And Dlouhy won as well (I'm not sure of the score, but I think it was 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 or something like that).

Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Paolo Lorenzi had just started (maybe two games into the match) before rain halted play. And, Ryler De Heart was up a break on Paul Capdeville in the first set.

I've been going to the tournament since the qualies began on Saturday, but I don't know if its been posted what happened in the Xavier Malisse and Lukas Rosol 2nd round match yesterday.

Malisse was upset in his 1st round match as well because I don't think he really wanted to be here. But in the 2nd round, things got a little heated between Rosol and Malisse. Malisse complained that between his first and second serves Rosol would cause an unnecessary delay by hitting the ball towards the ball kid. He was also complaining that Rosol would go to the towel after Rosol lost a point, but not after he won a point on Malisse's serve.

Malisse first complained to the umpire, but then Rosol got involved and there was an exchanging of words. I was right behind Malisse's chair and he said that "he was going to beat the crap" out of Rosol after the match. He asked the umpire if he could get a warning for punching a player after the tournament. When Rosol smiled when he won a point, Malisse said that he "was going to wipe that smile off his face later." Malisse also thought he should be fined for having no respect for the game.

The handshake at net was pretty cordial, but after they walked off Rosol and Malisse got into an argument. Then some man from the audience (not sure who he was) got involved. The f-word was flying everywhere and people had to step in between Malisse and the man. I wasn't sure, but someone put their hand on someone else (not sure who). The fight outside seemed to be more between Malisse and the man, not Rosol.

It only lasted about 2 minutes afterwards, but it was still exciting. All of the other players were watching. I didn't think to capture the "fight" on film. I only captured the handshake at net, but its really blurry. I'll post it later.

EDIT: http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a37/Miss_Piggy3/Bronx%20Challenger%202008/?action=view&current=Rosol.flv

You can't really see anything, but you can hear Malisse saying something toward Rosol.

Any news?? Dlouhy - Helgeson ???

I would trust SweetRichard's report of the Dlouhy win. I watched some of the match. It was a break fest. When I got there Dlouhy had just broken to go up 5-1 in the first. I wandered away for a while to watch some other matches, and when I came back about a half hour later, I see Dlouhy is up 6-4, 3-2 on serve in the 2nd. So, he actually got broken twice serving for the first set before breaking Helgeson to finish off the set.

So then I settled in to watch some of this one. After holding for 3 all Helgeson broke to go up 4-3. Then he promptly handed it back courtesy of a couple of bad double faults. I saw Helgeson play some in the NCAA's. He probably had the 2nd best year in college tennis after Devvarman, and was the only one to beat Somdev last year. Anyway, he managed to hold at 4-5 to stay in the match, and finally put away the set in a long game after he once again had broken Dlouhy.

Helgeson seemed to control most of the rallies, but Dlouhy had better variation mixing in a lot of nice slices and well placed lobs when Helgeson attacked. Dlouhy grabbed a quick break in the third, and I think it was 3-0 when I had to leave, so 6-1 sounds about right. And it did start raining about 1/2 hour after I left. Doubt there would be any more play today. As for the outcome, I think it was a typical case of the inexperienced player just not quite knowing or having the confidence to finish things off. Also, he needs to work on that serve. It pretty much blows, or at least it did today.

Watched a bit of Bozoljac-Ball. Ball was flashing his temper. After he hit an approach long and Bozoljac lobbed it back as the ball was close, Ball kind of ran in and hit a leaping overhead that flew straight into the back fence not too far from where Ilia was. Ilia let out a "HEY!" and looked at the chair, as if to say "What the fuck?". I don't think the chair even issued a warning, but nothing seemed to come of it between the players (I guess no repeat of Malisse-Rosol). Although, Ball offered no apology with his racquet prior to serving the next point.

Only watched like 2 points of Oudin-Bovina. Bovina won the first set 6-4. Watched a bit Scheepers vs. Doque-Marino. Scheepers in a South African I had seen last year that has a certain cuteness about her. Unfortunately, not too much of a game. Doque-Marino is a young Columbian ranked 130 and seeded 6th in this event. Scheepers won the first 6-2, fell behind an early break in the 2nd, but I imagine she came cack to win in straights as she was on her cell phone not too long after I left that match.

That's about it. Was only able to spend about an hour there.

That is harsh :( I don't know if I prefer that or the way Massu came back in semis of BH...
