That was a bad 'not up' call.

Rafa's really taking his time between points.

Go Gulbis :bounce:

Rumour
06-26-2008, 01:46 PM
Gulbis got sloppy in the second set, hope he regroups in the third. At least starts off with the service hold to go up 7-5 2-6 1-0.

Rumour
06-26-2008, 02:06 PM
Nadal held comfortably his previous service game then threatened on Gulbis' serve, but the Latvian saved a BP to hold - still on serve with the No. 2 to serve next at 3-4.

Rumour

Meanwhile the Galvani-Youzhny match is in a fifth set

Nadal currently serving for a TB at 5-6 15:15 in the third set... And he holds.

Rumour
06-26-2008, 02:29 PM
Nadal got the early MB on Gulbis' error but gave it back, leads 2-1* in the TB.

Rumour

Nadal wins both of his serve points handily and then gets another MB to get his first SP, which he converts to lead 5-7 6-2 7-6(2).

No problem as long as this match stays on TV, but if ESPN switches again I'll probably not be able to do it as much since my livestream is a bit delayed and slowing down my connection.

At least he has challenged Nadal like I thought he would but, let's face it, Gulbis still lacks big match experience. Plus it's hard to stay aggressive yet consistent against the Spaniard. Still, he has reinforced my initial good impression of him and now I can definitely say I am a big fan :yeah:

me too
altho ive never seen him play.
but honestly, i never expected gulbis to win lol... just to see him putting up one hell of a fight
is he still fighting hard or is he emotionally spent? how old is he?

Rumour

ESPN has moved over to the Schuettler-Blake match, which the German leads, so I'll have to watch the other one online (meaning fewer updates). Also, Youzhny finally won 4-6 6-4 6-3 3-6 6-3 :D

While I'd heard of him before, the first time I got to see a bit of what Gulbis could do was when he thrashed Robredo at last year's USO. Don't think he did much at the AO but then he went further last month at RG so people are more aware of him now. So far he's not going away against Nadal yet, not like I really expected him to as he doesn't seem the type to mentally crumble easily. He has a good attitude from what I can tell, coming off as confident but not arrogant like some other players tend to... Oh, and he turns 20 in a couple of months.

yep really glad gulbis is still putting up a fight... most ppl would be trashed in the fourth against nadal in the same scenario
