Good luck to Frank! He's got a great draw so he could really get something going here. :)

Nalbandian is not fat, has never been and the "Fat Dave lost ha-ha he should stop eating so much" jokes are hardly funny anyway, if they ever were.

He played very bad today but I saw the match and I think he tried his best but had a very bad day, especially on his forehand, which was easily taken advantage of by a player who's a natural on this surface.

Nalbandian is a joke right now. Just when you think some of his recent losses have been poor, here comes a new low.

He never even looked like winning it - no commitment to his shots and looked like he was going through the motions playing-wise.

First time he has lost in the first round of a GS since 2002.

Good match from Dancevic, but what was up with those weak passing shots?

Amazing waste of talent.
It's sad to see a player with his game so wasting his abilities and not being able to show consistency.
This is why I will always be a Federer fan and appreciate what he has accomplished in tennis, whether or not he ever wins RG or beats Sampras' record. How often in sport do the greatest and purest talents become the most disappointing and frustrating underacheivers, especially compared to the solid but unspectacular hard workers?

While the latter category earn deserved praise for their success, their play just doesn't have the same visually aesthetic or emotionally uplifting quality for me. Though I'm a fan of both types of players, I'll always personally prefer the ones like Fed who - more often than not - manage to combine flair and style with determination and perseverence.

Anyway, for some reason Nalby has never been my cup of tea even in his shining moments, just like the Swiss isn't for others

I watched the match and Frank played incredibly well and it wasn't only s&v

He's hit some amazing shots from the baseline, exact grass court tennis

As for the fat bastard, he came to the match like he'd already won it, shitted in his pants and left in unremarkable manner

Moved bad, hit the ball bad (mostly to the net on every occasion) but sucked good

the only bright moment from him happened in the end when he impressed the public with some extreme shots

fat dave needs to have a sabatical... just step away from the game for a while...

i think the Argy Tennis Federation need to kidnap him and drop him off at a hut on top of the mountain in the wilderness...

once there... he will learn to hunt and survive on animal instinct, with his bare hands... because, fat dave knows all too well man cannot live on beer alone... there will be no fast food outlets... only him, and the wild...

in six months they should pick him up...

he will then win the french next year...

Q. What were your expectations coming in?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: Much better than this, for sure.

Q. Physically you're fine? There was no problem with that? Did you feel your preparation was good?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: Well, not a hundred percent, but...

Q. In what way?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: Injuries.

Q. What's the injury?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: I can't tell you.

Q. Why?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: I have to?

Q. Just interested. No.

DAVID NALBANDIAN: All right.

Q. Do you prefer not to talk about your injuries? Are you worried that it will sound like you're making excuses, or...

DAVID NALBANDIAN: There's no reason to talk for.

Q. Did the injury hamper you on court?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: I already asked you that one.

Q. You seemed quite flat emotionally. Did you feel like that, or was it a physical thing?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: Maybe both, yeah.

Q. Were you flat mentally because of the physical problem?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: It's hard to tell which is first and which is second.

Q. You're known for going deep into Grand Slams. You haven't gone deep into a Grand Slam for quite a while now.

DAVID NALBANDIAN: Yeah, that's one of my goals, and I couldn't made it.

Q. So what will you do next?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: The hard court season in U.S.

Q. Do you expect to be fit again relatively quickly?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: I don't know. We will try.

Q. No Olympic Games?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: Si.

Q. How would you actually summarize this disappointment? How disappointed are you today?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: I already asked that one.

Q. In the sense of overall.

DAVID NALBANDIAN: (No response.)

it's a mental injury. I think after this era, psychological time-outs will become officially recognized.

Players will call for a therapist, and some bald guy with a bow-tie and a beard will show up to council you.

Nalbandian is so overrated it's unreal...

Go watch some videos of him at Paris and Madrid last year. Overrated? Underrated if anything. When he's at the top of his game, he is at least Federer's equal. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the head for it. He can't do it consistently.

That said, anyone who questions the guy's ability really hasn't got a clue. He played some of the best tennis I or anyone else will ever see, last year in Paris and Madrid.

I'd say he's overrated because he's never at the top of his game long enough to really make an impact and make people believe he can win the big one. Then he wins a tournament like Madrid or Paris and everyone jumps on his bandwagon and says he's the most talented player ever to play the sport.

This thread is mocking how apparently hopeless Fat Dave is. I doubt most of the posters bashing him would concede that he is, in fact, a tremendous player when on form. It's just another example of how MTF forum regulars can't be objective. If they don't like a player's personality, his game is weak. If they like a player's personality, he is a fantastic tennis player.

They can't assess a player's physical talent without considering his personality or his inconsistency (a mental issue, not a physical one). Regardless of Nalbandian's mental shortcomings, when he is at his best he is as good as Federer. And guess what? I don't even like the guy. But at least I recognise his talent in spite of that.
