Good on Novak for finally waking up after losing that second set and taking care of business.

He started playing well towards the end of the match. He's moving forward a little, but still awkward movement on the grass. He spoke to Rogi after Rogi's match. Luvely ;)

Djokovic couldn't take the massive overheads assault in the 2nd set, but much expected, Berrer looked like a dead man by the third set till the inevitable end.

Djokovic's slides on grass :help:

He did?

Did Roger answer him or was it a monologue?

Nole.. Strange match.

Nole.. Strange match.

I think it was a typical locker room conversation. He asked Roger about the court and Roger tells him the grass feels great.

I think they are not bestfriends but not enemies either. I also believed they respect each other.

Djokovic looked very vulnerable today. When his "I am the next GOAT" aura that most players have bought into is gone, he will start dropping in the rankings.

Typical Novak 1st round match. Underestimated opponent a bit, trying to save energy, didn't work, gear up and voila. What did I tell you about b? Perfect sign what is all about. And you already know all signs.

Berrer (not)played the same game from start to end.

Djokovic was using the first two sets as serve and volley practice a little bit. Once that cost him the second set, he went back to basics. It was more than enough to win without being too tiring. Good enough for the first round.

I like that Novak was trying to serve and volley a little bit. I was watching the Conors-McEnroe match on The Tennis Channel and that's ALL they did so I'm glad that he's trying to improve on his overall game.

i think he's 220. that's really big. i think he moves well for his size too but still not good enough to be more competitive player.

Berrer is listed on the ATP site as 220 and the commentators said that's what he was. Either way, he's big for a tennis player and does move well for a man his size.

I wrote 190 - I thought it is obvious I'm talking about his 6'3" or 190 height. OK, 220 is weight.

Look at my response above :)

About the match, nothing special, very clumsy and sloppy from Djokovic most of the match-he luckily got the first, then deserved to lose the second, just to find the pieces of his games in last two sets.I hope he'll get better.

Nole's got to improve those approach shots if he wants to be effective at the net..Hope it was just an off day, coupled with a laid back attitude, knowing he'll get through.

Only caught patches of the match on ESPN but, other than the second set, it seemed to go pretty much according to plan for Djokovic. Was somewhat surprised at that temporary lapse and dip in form, even though it's not a new occurrence for him and he usually gets away with it against most players.

However, unlike all the 'sky is falling' pundits, I still believe that Federer is the clear (if not overwhelming) favourite on this surface at this tournament. Djoko will have to be physically fresh and mentally sharp in order to fully test and potentially beat him here this year.

So he can't afford to stay on court any longer than he absolutely has to IMO, not even to practice his S&V - although his determination to shore up all areas of his game is one attribute of his I really admire. Next couple of rounds should be smooth sailing but after that the sea starts to get more choppy...

If you're talking about the BBC commentary:
That was Becker. :D

It's great that the german channel Premiere added the original BBC commentary as a 2nd audio feed. I can finally enjoy hearing Becker, McEnroe, etc. :yeah:

So I have a question: what's the name of the other person who was doing commentary with Becker?

I like this. As for me only matters is Novak to play good with Fed. It's so annoying this presure about him (here in Serbia) and dad. Now or never! I read some forum here an hour ago...gosh.
Who knows what can it be, maybe he'll win 2010. Exellent.

As for Fed...In possible final Nadal-Federer I'd bet 50-50.

Djokovic reminds me of a trojan warrior, with his roached haircut and dark passionate looks. I'm tired of watching the 2 prima donnas with their carefully color-coordinated head bands and long stringy sweaty oily locks, which they are constantly placing behind their ears, ala Sharapova. `Re-babe-ing' someone called it. :wavey:

I think he made up for the lost set by bageling Berrer. :) Plus, this is Djokovic. In the early rounds, he has a bad habit of doing "just enough" to get it done.

Hopefully someone can ruin him in the early rounds. He needs to learn some humility.

FIVE players retired on Monday - first day out. But we won't talk about THAT. Djokovic didn't have to retire until the semifinals. Is it better to play on with an injury and never play at the same level again? Only the player knows what his limits are. These guys are like old men at 25.

He just needs to learn to stop crossing the line between confidence and bitchassness. Every time he draws me in with his game, he turns me off with his attitude. And of course, his parents' antics just add fuel to the fire.

That said, I want to see a barn burner in the semis, so he'd better bring it.
