Richard had 6/5* 40-15* a couple of second serves, he was up *5-3 in the breaker;

once a mental midget, alwas mental midget....

Why was he upset at the end? I only watched the last games. I first thought he was pissed because of his poor performance, but he seemed actually mad at Gicquel, they started argueing after the matchpoint.

I can't wait until Wimbledon starts, then we'll see the real Gasquet. Obviously a large disappointment here, he should have won this match and his mentality wasn't very good, but he fought hard after losing the first set.
Not much positive to take out of this - just next time he has 2 fucking set points, TAKE THEM.

Couldn't comment on this match, but Gasquet looked a lot better last week, so at least he has been on the up in recent weeks. This might just be a bit of a setback, that's all.

Well, certainly if I compare him to a set I watched of him playing Seppi in Hamburg, there has been a marked improvement. There, he looked totally lost...last week, he was playing with purpose against Nalbandian. So that is an improvement, in my eyes.

But, again, I couldn't comment on today's match.

Well, if I were his coach, I'd be looking at improving all aspects of his game...strokes, strategy and, above all, confidence (which is the greater issue with Gasquet). If there is a gradual improvement in those areas, the results will come eventually.

It looks like maybe you have too high expectations of him! :lol: For me, he looked a better player out there last week (compared to Hamburg), even if he might not have gone as far in the draw as some would have expected. Therefore, to me, he is "on the up." :p

If you had seen him play in 2005 and in most part of 2006,you would understand why.....:o
Sadly since then,his level of play has continually decreased
He is now just a pale-shadow of the player he was a few years ago and that's quite astonishing considering you are supposed to improve beetween 18 and 21 and not the contrary.

I was VERY pleased after some of his wins(and even some of his losses!) in 2005 and especially in 2006 because at least,his game was beautiful and he really went for his shots ;)
Now he is just too defensive and to make it worse,his forehand is getting worse and worse!

The most amazing thing is that Gasquet's level of play has decreased during a period where normally,any player at any level should improve,even a little bit(beetween 17-18 to 20-21).
