I can't tell you how much I hate having to pick through the OOP when I go to Toronto to avoid the Canadians...besides Dancevic none are even solid challenger players. Frank and Fred are acceptable, but the other 2 should go to more deserving players.

In the past year Safin got numerous wildcards even when he simply forgot to enter or didn't bother to put his name on the entry-list of a tournament even when his ranking was sufficient. Now that there's a case for deserving some WCs he'll certainly get any WC he wants.

Dancevic, Niemeyer and Polansky deserve a WC. However, I doubt Nestor would even accept one. The last time he did was in 2006 and it was a total waste: he's simply not interested in playing singles.

The obvious and inescapable choice for the last WC is MARAT SAFIN :worship::worship::worship::worship:

He was in Roland yesterday to see the doc and everything is going well. He walks normally and is just being careful when he goes down and up stairs. He’ll start the rehab on Monday and should be able to hit again at the beginning of August. Which means there still is a little chance he’ll be able to play in Beijing, but it’s safer to count on the US Open.

I saw Schwank winning a challenger title on hard in Cremona (in both singles and doubles) and he was quite impressing. I wouldn't underrate him. Polansky and Niemeyer would get beaten easily by him, in my opinion. Schwank won a title and made 2 finals in hardcourt challengers. Polansky??

Anyway I would have never given WC to Schwank.

I had a read through the ATP rulebook but it doessn't seem to cover this: in case of an AMS tournament, will a player who did not sign up for qualies still be eligible for the SE slot if he's still playing by Saturday in an ISG tournament?

For example, I think del Potro would've easily made the qualies sign-up cut-off easily but he's not on the entry list. Now he's in the second round of Kitzbuhel and stands a good chance of making the semis. Will he be eligible for SE?

Any help would be appreciated :)

Since no one still left in the tournament made the original cut-off for Toronto, possibly more than one semifinalist will be eligible so it will go to the highest ranked player who is interested. (Players who are already entered in a challenger next week are not eligible.)

Maybe because del Potro didn't sign up for qualies in the first place? I mean, the SE is supposed to be for a player who is prevented from playing qualies in next week's event because he's still alive in this week's tournament. It wouldn't matter for IS/ISG tournaments because there's no qualies sign-up list.

Oh I dunno. Just a theory. I read through the ATP rule book on this section and couldn't find anything on that kind of scenario.

Ah allright. So next player coming in is still Del Potro. Pretty stupid of him not to sign up for qualifiers...his road to the semi's was easy in Kitzbuhel..he could have known that when the entry list was known already.

So players I could see dropping out:
35 Llodra, Michael FRA 35
26 Moya, Carlos ESP 26
13 Almagro, Nicolas ESP 13

And maybe a tournament winner from this week. When do they stop giving positions to alternates and start giving them to lucky losers?

Listen, Del Potro is physically fragile and has just played constantly for two weeks getting big results, the travel and transition to hardcourt in such a short time would be very bad for him. Better to rest a week, that's why he didn't want the SE! :wavey:

Listen, Del Potro is physically fragile and has just played constantly for two weeks getting big results, the travel and transition to hardcourt in such a short time would be very bad for him. Better to rest a week, that's why he didn't want the SE! :wavey:

wise decision imo

being physically fragile when you're 6'4 and 19 years old is such a crock...man up and get some points in a real tournament

I dunno man, he's had some pretty bad back problems, it's not the sort of injury you want to be messing around with or he could be crippled by age 30 for the sake of a few ranking points.

Why?

To be eligible for SE in a Masters Series tourney you need to be playing on Saturday in either an International Series Gold/ another AMS event. Kitzbuhel is the only ISG event this week.

Oh I hope not....so sick of his domination over the game. Loving him not winning much this year as it gives all the other great players a chance. Rafa for the title!!!:clap2:
