Hes moving up the rankings nicely.

Well I trully agree with that and I hope it will come true soon. Bulgaria wants and awaits it's men tennis star from a long time. We only had one top 100 men tennis player so far in contrast to the female tennis with the Maleeva sisters, Tsveti, Sesil and others. I want it so badly too. This year I traveled to Plovdiv to see him in the Davis Cup matches and he plays just great tennis for his age. His onehand backhand is very good. Top 100 here we come. Haide.

Hi all :wavey:

Eysseric just got beaten by Dimitrov  It's hard to believe that's the same guy who took Andy Murrey to 5 sets only a week ago. This Dimitrov must be something special. I'll be glad if he storms man's tennis and makes a break-through this season, tennis needs some fresh faces. But I read somewhere Dimitrov was injury prone and had a chronic knee injury. Is this true? He's so young, 17-18 only, no.
Good luck, boy. Keep going. :)

Sun shines on Dimitrov in Paris

Bulgariaís Gregor Dimitrov seems to be the only person in Paris who appreciates the overcast skies and damp conditions that have been a feature of Roland Garros this year. The 14th seed in the boysí competition certainly did not make heavy weather of French favourite Jonathan Eysseric on Wednesday, beating the former Junior World No.1 6-3, 6-4 to seal a place in the quarter-finals.

ďI like France and Roland Garros is a really good tournament for me,Ē said Dimitrov. ďI really like the people around and the organisation - I even like the weather Ė itís really dark and raining and I love this weather. Itís the same as in England and I really like that Ė I canít wait for Wimbledon!Itís been a good tournament for me so far, Iíve been playing some pretty good matches even though I actually started pretty bad in my first match,Ē said Dimitrov. ďI think Iíve found a way to play on this court now. Iíve got all the small details right Ė the racquets, the strings Ė and now I really like it. I think I can play on a lot of surfaces, my favourites are fast courts like hard-courts and grass, but I really like this kind of clay because itís possible to play aggressively on it. It's absolutely realistic for me to win the tournament. Itís normal for me and I expect that. I have been playing in Futures and other tournaments and playing with lots of confidence. Maybe itís because Iím getting older. I think everything is just coming from my head. If my mind is clean, then itís really goodÖI feel like I can express myself.Ē

He has a really big forehand, it was by far the best shot of either player today. :yeah: He likes to run around his backhand to hit it. His backhand is ok, it's a fairly solid one-hander, it wasn't nearly as impressive as his forehand. His serve is good, it's a shot that will improve I think. He moved fairly well, and he really seems to detest volleying. He almost never came to net, he is really a baseliner through and through. That's something he'll have to improve on.

The match should have been easier, really, he was a much better player than Angus. Angus has rather underwhelming groundstrokes, and a second serve that bounces short and with little pace on it. Grigor should have been doing more with it in the first set than he was, but he made a few too many silly errors. The second set was better, and he cleaned up his game more. He was fairly impressive throughout, just needs to clean up some of the errors if he wants to win the tournament.

Thank you for your report. I haven't watched Grigor play and I don't know what his game is like. I read he liked to play on HC but strangely he has more success on clay. About his next opponent Adam report says

Cesar Ramirez the 3rd seed probably hasn't played too much on grass, he's a lot more physically developed than most of the other juniors so he kind of bulked his way through if that makes sense.

Well it's good if Cesar's game on grass isn't too good but if the guy is strong and have a solid serve (today he's been serving at 65% but winning 80% on FS and 64% on SS, and 44% on receiving) I hope Grigor comes up with a good tactic and tries and block Cezar's serve.

Anyway good luck to Grigor. I'd wish he cuts off juniors and starts playing more ATP matches. He's 17 already, time for a break through in men's circuit.

I am watching the match live and fo now grigor is winning but hi is serving like he just graduated the kinder garden. his average is about 85-88 mph on first serve. he is cracking the forehand though especially the one down the line I like that shot. his backhand is not bad also if only he was not trying for stupid drop-shots when he is in winning position. over all he was playing much better yesterday against the mexican guy.

good win, even though the Serbian guy was playing relatively poor tennis. his next opponent will be much tougher and I hope grigor does not over work his shoulder and give it some rest. today he is supposed to play doubles partnering his opponent in the singles final Kontinen. If grigor gets his serve back he has a shot at the title. I don't think he has a chance in the final if he serves like he did today.

gorgo1986
07-04-2008, 01:35 PM
The forehand is huge, the backhand is good, the movement is very good, the serve IMO he needs to improve, just watchig some other matches as well and his net/volley game is good but inconsistant. For a 17 year old he is an amazing talent.

gorgo1986
07-04-2008, 01:40 PM
IMO Grigor just needs to rest his shoulder nd he will be fine, by the end of the match he looked ok. He should win tommorow from what I have seen as Tomic played quite a poor match and tournament. Kontinen was solid but Grigor is the better player. Today I think Grigor was not going for to much on serve because he was guarding it for the final and I think he will do the same in the doubles.

According to things I red and heard he felt a lot of pain on his shoulder in the semifinal against Krajinovic and he couldn't serve at his best. Let's hope that this extra day will help him rest and this pain won't come up so strong for tommorows final. I sure hope it is something minor and he could play the final at his best and show what is he capable of. I understood that tommorow will be a rainy day and we know how ITF named Grigor - The Rain mas as he said that he loves to play on such a weather. I will cross my fingers(on the leg too) because I want him to win so badly. Haide Grigor you can do this. Bulgaria is with you.

G. Dimitrov Interview - 6 July

Q. How does it sound to hear that you're Wimbledon champion?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Pretty good. I mean, didn't expect it too much, especially today.

Q. Why do you think you managed to come through today?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: I was pretty, you know, focused in the match today. I was trying to do all my best and be focused all the time.

Also my injury, you know, was quite serious, and I still couldn't serve like really good.

But just want to say to the Japanese company that lent me the necklace with the magnets. It helps me a lot. Like helps me pretty much during the match, so I just want to say big thanks also.

Q. Is that a therapeutic necklace?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Yeah, it's a therapeutic necklace. It helps me win the match. I wore it just a few days, and it was incredible after.

Q. When you had the injury timeout did that help you?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Yeah, 'cause when he was doing the massage stuff, you know, he was just relieving the pain. Always when I was serving the pain was incredible.

So I had to, you know, just during the tiebreak ‑‑ I mean, during the break, you know, he was just relieving the pain. If he can move it a little bit, you know, not to stay much.

Because I was playing, it was okay. But when I start serve the pain was going up, up, up, and it was keeping me the next few points. So it was better for me to do this.

Q. Do you have an impingement there? Do you know exactly the nature of the problem?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Don't know yet. Probably tomorrow when I go back to Bulgaria I'm going to have a few days off and I can do some tests or x‑ray, a lot of stuff. So I'm going to find out exactly what's wrong with it.

Q. Can it take pressure off you in a way, if you have an injury, that maybe you're thinking about that and you're not thinking about the big picture?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Yeah, sometime. I mean, was quite tough to think that I'm not injured, especially that I wanted to win this so much. Because, you know, Wimbledon is my favorite tournament.

Everything is nice in here ‑ especially the weather (smiling). But, you know, just trying not to think about it.

But it's fine, I mean.

Q. Do you think you were lucky in that first set? Because he had breakpoints against you at 1‑All and again later on.

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Maybe. Maybe a bit luck. But I was using my serve, like just put the direction of the serve, and that was making him bit confused. I saw that at the beginning. I know when I have the breakpoints, I knew I was going to save it because he was a bit nervous. I could feel that.

You know, also when I had the two breakpoints, when I was 5‑4, he did unbelievable shots that I was, like, Okay, I mean, this guy can play well.

I was just trying to keep fighting.

Q. They call you the Rain Man. You must have been very happy to see the weather this morning.

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Yeah, it was very nice when I woke up. I saw dark weather, raining a bit. I was like, Yeah, it's going to be a good day (smiling).

Q. What does this mean for your career? What kind of a platform is this for you?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: For me to win Wimbledon, I mean, it's pretty good, because this is what I wanted to do. Also I heard that they give for next year wild card to main draw, so this makes me more happy.

So, you know, that was important things for me. Just like juniors is one step to get to the other level for me.

Q. Do you think it sends out a message about you as a player, that it's kind of a marker?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Yeah. I mean, always players, when they win tournaments like this, they always start having another dream, you know, start develop more, start playing more, discover more stuff about the game and how you feel, and I think this really helps me.

Q. Is this the first time you ever challenged Hawk‑Eye in a match?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Yeah, actually.

Q. And you did it on the second point of the match.

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Yeah, I did it on the second point. Also I was thinking, Okay, first challenge. If it's in, I win the match. It's right.

So, no, but was really nice. I mean, I haven't used this never. And to be on Court No. 1, using it, was incredible.

Q. Is that the most people you've ever played in front of, the biggest court you've play on?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Yeah, yeah.

Q. And how did you react to it?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Perfect. I love when a lot of people watching me and stuff. I can do also sometime some good shots, you know, show hundred percent for myself.

But today I wasn't able to do all this. But I'm just proud of myself that I could like fight the whole match.

Alex.

Well according to the bulgarian newspapers it will be a month. It is totally deserved and let's hope that after it he will be in his best shape and this pain in the shoulder will be left in the past.

After the tournament in Germany Grigor will play at the ATP Challenger Tournament in Segovia, Spain which is next week. I think he has a WC for the MD but I am not sure. Here is the Entry list http://www.teniselespinar.com/jugadores.asp.
After then he will go to the United States where he will practice two weeks in Andre Agassi's tennis academy. The Junior US Open is after that. Good Luck to him and let's hope that he will have great weeks(of course months and years too) ahead of him.

I have always wondered why Grigor play in clay tournaments as the clay surface is not his favourite at all and he has not big chances for real progress there .Why doesn't he play on hard courts,as his game best suits for fast courts??? I hope Grisha disproves me and deferat Guillermo García López, but this will be really, really hard task especially on clay.Good luck Grisha.:)

Hi Iím Grigor Dimitrov, Iím going to be the blogger this week and set you up with the new stuff!

Last time you heard from me would have been when I won Junior Wimbledon. Well since then Iíve been having a nice time on vacation at the seaside in Bulgaria, I wonít tell you for how long!

I arrived in New York a couple of days ago. This is my second time in New York, I really like it. The people, the atmosphere are great, but I canít have too much fun because Iím trying to prepare for the tournament.

I play my first match tomorrow against Julien Obry a French guy. Iíve never played him before but Iíll try to do a good job and weíll see how it goes.

Iíve been practising with some good players since I got here, Verdasco, Donald Young so Iím feeling good. I canít blog for too long today, Iíve got to rush off because Iím going to practise now, this time with a girlÖÖÖ! But it is Daniela Hantuchova!! Ha ha!

MONDAY

Today, Day 2, G-Force is back with the headline of how he is going to win the US Open ......just joking!!!

So first match, easy to say it was good, I didn't expect that from myself but I've been here a couple of days and got used to the tournament, so I started pretty strong. Today was goddamn warm! Lucky I played early but it was still like a sauna out there. The score was 62 62 and I was playing pretty good. I'm pleased with that because he's a good player.

After the match I had to come straight off of court and do an interview for you guys on the ITF site and do the blog. Then I'm going to take a shower, stretch, have some lunch. The food is perfect here. After that I speak with my coaches anout the match then I'll hit some more balls this afernoon.

At tournaments you have a lot of time hanging around so I chat alot on the internet, I like to listen to music, mostly hip hop. I also like to watch the TV. I've been watching a series called Monk over the internet. He is the dumbest guy ever but really funny. Now I'm in the US I can watch it for real. I don't want to watch more tennis on tv! Well maybe sometimes...

One thing that is good about being here in the US is the ice cream! I'm loving the Ben & Jerrys, expecially the caramel and cookies flavour. Later I might have something else to eat but I can't tell you about that as it's unprofessional.....

See you tomorrow

TUESDAY

So today I had to wait around a long time to play my match. I came on site around 10.30. I watched the beginning of some of the matches then I practiced for about 35 minutes.

After practice I had some lunch, ravioli with about ten kilos of chicken so it was more like eating chicken with sauce than pasta with chicken.

I went on court around 3pm this afternoon and I was done by 4.10pm. The first set score was 75, I didnít play too good because I got some bad news just before the match so I found it difficult to focus. But I managed to get my head together in the second set and won the match 75 61.

It was difficult but I had to get through it because thatís life. Sorry I donít have any jokes for you today because Iím feeling a bit sad, but donít worry, Iím still here and Iíll be back tomorrow.

Grigor

THURSDAY

Sorry guys, I missed you yesterday because I had a day off, so I ran away from you, ha ha!

Not really, I’ll fill you in on what I did yesterday. I practiced in the morning and then I headed into the city with my mum to do some shopping. I went to Macys which is a huge department store with 8 floors, it took me a while to get around! I only bought one pair of shorts, so I’ll have to try another day, there are quite a few shops to choose from here!

After shopping I came back to site to practice again. Last night I headed back to the hotel but I was too late for my favourite show Monk.

So today I played my 3rd match against Marcelo Arevalo from El Salvador. It was pretty strange at the beginning, but I played solid. The guy was hitting some pretty nice shots but I was able to answer everything and I won 63 64.

After the match I went for some lunch and then I did a photo shoot, that was good fun. We went to the Unisphere just outside the site, and I even went for a bit of a swim. Check out the photos, do you think I make a good model???? I could get a job next week at Fashion Week!

I am going to hit some more balls now. See you tomorrow…

SATURDAY

So where are we so far, last day tomorrow and I can't wait to relax. I'm going to Madrid for a tournament when I leave New York.

But today my favourite weather, rain, arrived and bought me luck. We played indoors and I played top seed Tsung-Hua Yang but I wasn't worried at all. I've never played yang before but I know his game and he can play really good so I tried to get him down fast and easy like in the first set. But he showed some good stuff back in the second set and I had to fight for another set.

I was 2-0 down in the third but I wsa still pretty confident and thats why I came up with 6 straight games in a row. Now I'm on the bus heading back to the hotel to relax and lets see whats going to happen tomorrow.....

Ok So he is Definitely going to Spain F34

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. What was to like winning over here? Talk about the match.

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Well, that was, you know, my second final in Grand Slam juniors event. You know, I was feeling very calm when I was playing the match. Also Devin gave me a hard time in the first set, and especially in the beginning of the second.

But I found a way to manage my game, and that was the right way for me. I wasn't that surprised.

Q. So the experience of Wimbledon helped you today?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Yeah, definitely.

Q. In what way? Did it just mean you weren't nervous or that tactically it helped you?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: I wasn't nervous at all. I was prepared for that. You know, just keeping my game in the level that I wanted to play was good, because all the matches I was, you know, very focused. I think that's what most helped me.

Q. What was the key to winning?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: The key was I had to be very focused when he was serving, because he's a quite a good service/volley guy. You know, I was just trying to win the point and just play my game.

Q. Could you talk a little bit about the change in his game since you played him two years ago? Did anything surprise you about what he did today from the only time you played before?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Yeah, there was a couple of things that, you know, I saw in his game that he developed well and stuff.

But, you know, since we were like three years back, then everything was totally different. He just ‑‑ he just played well. I just, you know, played over him. That's it.

Q. Was this as well as you've played this week, or have you been playing at a pretty high level all week?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Yeah, the beginning was so‑so because I was getting into the draw and stuff. I was feeling pretty good and stuff. I was not trying to, you know, impress someone or do something.

I just wanted to just play every match and play well. Yeah, maybe yesterday I played pretty good against Yang. It was a very good match.

Q. How easy was it to adjust to these conditions again having had to move inside?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Well, it's the same thing for the other guys. With me it was fine. If you go somewhere else you have to, you know, get used to it, so it wasn't that big different.

Q. When you've won a junior Grand Slam, how do you motivate yourself, or what motivates to you win the next one?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Hmmm, that's a good question.

Q. They're all good, you know.

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Well, I like US Open. Last year I didn't perform that well. This year I just wanted to come here and do my best.

Q. So you just focused on this tournament as opposed to the idea of winning another slam?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Yeah, because it's also my last ITF event. Just gave everything.

Q. Talk a little bit about your training in Spain and where you're training, with whom, and how that's helped your game in the last year.

GRIGOR DIMITROV: I been practicing in Barcelona almost a year now. Been practicing with a coach from Spain. The thing is that he developed my game.

He said, You don't have to change nothing. Just couple of things that I have to play in the right way or to do different decisions.

But these things are coming from, you know, if you play more, like, professional events and stuff. So like this I can really find the help that I need to get there.

Q. You're working with Pata Alvarez, and he worked with Andy Murray at a similar age. Has he talked to you about what Murray was like at your kind of level?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Yeah, yeah. He said he was speaking ‑‑ he had a live interview about it and stuff, and even Murray himself came to him in Wimbledon and spoke to him. It was pretty nice.

Q. That must give a bit of even more faith in him to know that he's worked with someone who turned out to be...

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Yeah, he did a lot of player, top 10. It's not only Murray and stuff. But I'm really impressed with him.

Q. What's your goal in tennis now?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Goal is to be top 10 player in ATP, right? Everyone wants to do it, so we'll see what's going to happen.

Q. Could you go back a little bit to the match itself. When he broke you to take the lead, you got it right back. Could you comment on how important that was?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Well, in this game he was ‑‑ he really stepped into it with hard serve. You know, I didn't really push myself too much for this game.

Suddenly I saw that he could miss this thing, he could miss these returns and stuff. That's how I get him back.

Q. Who's your coach?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: My father.

Q. You have a blog on the ITF website. You said, I didn't play good because I had a bad news today.

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Yeah. Well, you know, everyone has his bad days and stuff, so it's nothing serious to worry about it.

Q. What part of your game do you still have to work on?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: I guess my footwork. I have to get it better and stuff, which I really develop always and trying to get really good in this.

I think this is going to be the thing that I'm going work now for.

Q. What's your next tournament?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Taking off to Madrid and playing a couple of men's events. After that, I didn't decide yet.

Q. Does Britton have some of the best volleys that you've faced in juniors?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Yeah. Actually, also Henri Kontinen from Finland, the guy I play in Wimbledon, he was, you know, pretty solid player from the net.

Today Devin also had a couple of good shots. I was really impressed. But, you know, I think at some point in the second set he got too overconfident and, you know, just he step away and I got it.

So I mean, he has to work on that.

Q. How many years you playing in juniors?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: I have no idea. I think four already, or five, something like this.

Q. Is this your biggest win as a junior?

GRIGOR DIMITROV: Yeah, maybe. I mean, it was my last match, so I wanted to end up in the right way. It's maybe one of the important ones for me.

US Open blog
SUNDAY

So guys last day and I'm so happy. I made it and I feel a lot better now. Faye has been following me the whole week so finally she's free, but I'm sad to lose her!

After a few hours I have to take a plane to Madrid and I am playing on Tuesday!

So last match in juniors and my last blog and from now on I'll be playing pro tournaments so I hoped you enjoyed reading my blog and I hope to see you again in the main draw next year.

I'm just waiting to go and get my trophy on Arthur Ashe stadium which is pretty cool. I can check out the court for when I play there next year ...;-)

So I wish you all good luck and good blogging. Thanks everyone, peace. wim V us (that's my new logo, get it, Wimbledon 2 US Open, you know a logo like David Beckham!) Only joking!

Bye

Does anybody know what is the biggest jump for a tennis player in the ATP ranking system for a year? I am asking this question, because in the beginning of this season Grigor was ranked 1198 and now, in the middle of september, he will be at least in the 550 best tennis players in the world. This means that Grigor has moved in the ranking system with more than 650 place so far.Won't be Grigor a new ATP record holder
for this milestone???

catatonia
09-19-2008, 09:07 PM
After a short dig in the net I got Gasquet back in 2002 when he was just 16 jumping 1148 places in a year. He was No 1309 at the end of 2001 and finished 2002 as No 161.
Del Potro jumped 890 places in 2005 from No 1047 to No 157 (he was 17).
So Grisha won't hold any records, but the higher he gets the better :worship:

The_Beast
09-19-2008, 09:41 PM
Gasquet is the man :).Never mind. We must not forget that in the past,in his early years as a tennis player, Grigor had'nt the good conditions for development as the french and argentine tennis federations grant to their tennis players.Fortunately, for now,Grigor is in the right way, trained by the famous spanish tennis instructor - Pato Alvarez,he has all the chances for a remarkable success.Go Grisha GO.
