Phew! I was a bit worried for PHM for a bit. That fourth set was a nail biter. Glad he got through the tiebreak after blowing a couple of match points and saving four set points.

Brilliant match :yeah: incredible tennis from both at the end, Schwank saved 3 match points with some outrageous tennis, then Paulo saved 3 set points with equally good stuff.

The 4th set tie break was awesome, one of the best you'll ever see :worship:

:hatoff: to both players.

Great match again, the atmosphere was just fantastic. The little chant at the very end was funny "allez matthieu".
His matches are clearly the most entertaining ones.

Great match. PHM! PHM! PHM! Bit lucky there, but so relieved he scraped through. Schwanker is going to be a very good player. Watch this space. lol in the end you'd think PHM had won the tournament.

Credit to Schwank on those MP, saved most with winners.

Well done PHM, fell to the ground. I wouldn't have liked to have seen a 5th set

Great suspense. Schwank might be great threat on clay in tournaments ( maybe a little more fitness training ?). However, couple of best saved MP I ever saw.

Well.. the third set was a bit a choke or at least he was less focused. Especially in the game when Schwank broke back. Nothing to say for the fourth set, great tennis by both.
Schwank's dropshots were amazing !

What a fight at the end! You could just see Schwank wilt physically when PHM got the minibreak. One irritated me during the match though: who is Venus Williams? JMac again and again (while pronouncing Mathieu as "Matthew") noted that Venus wasn't going to get on until late and how unfortunate it was. I didn't hear pip about Rafa playing four days in a row.

Maybe he will be an Argie with a mind of steel (please?) I seem to recall reading that he actually prefers hard courts. I wish him success in the future.

Well done to PHM. He has gotten stronger mentally- well done Mats.

yes i watched near the end

he was 2 sets up, lost the 3rd, then he fell a break in the 4th :o

Very happy for PHM. Would not have liked to see him choke it away! Good luck to him.

So much respect for Schwank. I don't think he was fully fit but he fought so well with great tennis. His clarity and aggression to save those matchpoints was fantastic. That dropshot from the baseline! Hope he rests up and goes on a tear during the grass and hardcourt swing!

what a tiebreak. this match was definitely not for the faint of heart. I think even Mats was about to pass out.

this schwank is good. first grand slam right? He played like he was a veteran.

PHM probably made himself work more than he should...a good win nonetheless.

It does look that way doesn't it ? He did nothing wrong during those mtach points. Even had the Argetine gone on to win the set I don't think it would have been fair to accuse PHM of choking it away.

That's what was so good about the tiebreak- most of the points were won by winners and not brainfarts. Well done PHM and Edu. :D

Shwank has very good shots. It is wonder, why he hadn't break it through on ATP level. This could be it, finally.

PHM , good he didn't choked . It could be interesting match with the Faker in the next round.

4th set was incredible, lasting 75 minutes I believe. Great hitting from both throughout and once it got to the breaker both guys stepped up a level and it was absolutely phenomenal tennis from beginning to end. Well done to Mathieu for getting it done; Schwank looked very deflated at the end but can take confidence from this tournament. Could easily have come through today if a few points had been different.

Mathieu played very aggressively in the first two sets and executed his shots well. The fourth set was good, best part was both players hitting great shots under pressure. I would have liked the match to have gone on to a fifth set, I don't really know who would have had the edge if that had happened.

That was the best match of the tournament so far, especially after Schwank raised his level after the 2nd set. Glad to see Paulo was clutch on the 4th set tiebreak. :yeah:

I feel more relaxed watching the best horror movies than this thriller. Last set was so tight.
I couldn't believe Schwank saving those MP with incredible shots and winners  and if he won this match it would be just because of PHM choke, or whatever

Now a more relaxing match with the Djoke please.

Missed much of this match (from mid-second to mid-fourth set) but what I did catch was pretty good stuff from both players. So glad PHM pulled it out in the TB :worship: but Schwank went down fighting to the very end :boxing:

Expectations aren't too high for Mathieu now in his next encounter against Djokovic, but I hope he can take all the positives from the last couple of matches especially - plus the crowd support - and give the Serb a real battle on Sunday.

Excellent match once Schwank got rid of his nerves, too bad he couldn't consolidate the break in the 4th set, but Paulo showing some big Wilanders and Schwank as well, got to love the cheek saving a match point with a dropshot.

I know, thats why I said maybe. He definitely looked more tired in long rallies in the end than PHM and I can't say if that was because of his packed schedule or because of his overall fitness. First time seeing him live in action, so I am unable to make a definite judgment about that.
