And to think some people actually gave Safin a chance in this match. Davy is way too good for him.

Once again the most underrated player in MTF slaughters the most overrated player in MTF! :worship:

Denko is indeed the most underrated among the top players. Glad to see him go through, davai Nicolay! :hatoff:

Tough draw for Marat.

That's four wins in a row for Donkey over Hippo. Looks like he's figured him out now.

You are, these 2 were hammering it at each other from the baseline.

tough 1st set but davydenkos consistency was too much after that. some good signs from safin but not enough. he is looking very fit though, in both ways!

What a shame

Yes, shame is the right word. It's a shame that a player like Marat has to lose to a robot with 0.00001 talent like Davydenko.

Even though Safin lost, I'm happy with way he has been acting on court. He seems to be more focused and more willing to suffer in order to succeed. Much better than last year when he looked like he didn't even care.

It's just a pitty he couldn't at least win the first set. He deserved it.

Don't get it? Why are people looking for a resurgence from Safin? I mean he might get the odd upset here and there, but so does his good buddy JCF.

In it for the money. Both of them.

Can't blame them though. Beats the hell out of an office job in all ways.

Safin is nowhere close to being a top player anymore.

Is anybody surprised at this result? Anyone? Anyone? Burrow?

Burro is still face down on his bed crying while rambling to himself about Safin's bad luck and mega injuries.

Yes you are wrong as usual.

Davydenko was too solid and just dominated Safin in the 2nd and 3rd set.

Safin never stood a chance in my opinion against Davydenko.
I thought before the match he had a good chance of winning a set and he certainly could have won the 1st set, but he was never going to play well enough long enough to take 3 sets off Davy.
Safin always was overrated even a few years ago. I think he overachieved in winning 2 grand slams, because several more talented players than him never won a slam.
Davydenko is unlucky to be playing the best tennis of his career the same time as Federer and Nadal, and now Djokovic are at the top of the game.

However, it's sad to see Safin playing like this. I can't help it, somehow I still believe he'll make a big comeback (yeah I know it's not very likely )... :tears::crying2::sobbing:

I just saw the first set, but that offered incredible tennis! A very high-level match by both players! I was very pleasantly surprised.

I expected Marat to lose after the tie-break; putting so much into a set, having so many chances, and then blowing all of them must get to you. I'm sure I didn't miss much in sets 2 and 3.

BTW: why is Davydenko underrated? Most people/reporters/"specialists" put him at least in the Semis before this tourney even started. If that's underrated then I don't understand the term I guess. But yeah, whoever saw him losing to Marat was a bit deluded (and I hate to write that, being absolutely crazy about Mr. Safin myself, LOL).

Overachieved? Are you fucken serious?

This guy has all the shots and all the power to be No. 1. One of the stupidest comments I have ever heard on MTF.

And I don't even like Safin.

Like I said two posts up: Marat played incredible tennis in the first set. THAT wasn't sad to see at all! ;)

I do believe he'll have a solid rest of the season (maybe a MM titel here or there :D) - to believe in a "big comeback" might be too much, though...

Maybe things would have been a lot different if Marat would have won the set. Was looking like a good match and then Davydenko stepped up a gear.

The stupiest post ever, I'm sorry! But Safin is far from an overachieved player!!!!! With his talent (yes, because he's always been one of the most talented player) he should have won more titles!!!!!!

I don't know about Davydenko, but it's unfair :( Nobody cares about him! He's the 4th player but we hardly ever see his matches on TV! It's a shame!

Well, of course we all knew that after Marat lost the vital TB and the 1st set he wasn't going to win but indeed, both guys showed some excellent tennis, the scoreline may look not that good in the last 2 sets but Marat didn't give up which was nice to see, it's just that Kolya was that good. Kolya is at his best right now and was almost flawless, nothing much Marat could do. I still enjoyed watching the whole match. :o :D
