Always good to see Federer his vengeful bitch mode for an hour or so to set the match to rights after Montanes had the sheer temerity to take a set from him. :)

and also congrats to roger for not whining like rafa:crying2: when he was facing sets points and it started to rain heavily:rain:.:worship:

Federer had 20 UEs at the first. He had 22 at the next three sets total - says it all, really... Another note, he's serving very well at the moment.

Good win.

First set looked as if someoen rudely woke him up two minutes before the match. I was actually surprised he lost it after they got back from the rain break.

But we saw plenty of magic, dropshots, angles and even two moonballs after the first set was over.

When watching the first set I thought we were in for yet another craptastic Carbunkle!Fed display... TONS of UEs, sloppy, lethargic performance, anyway you know the drivel. Of course, Montañes played well and took his chances.

And then... all of a sudden - Jesus!Fed woke up.
Suddenly he played a lot more aggressively, coming to the net very often to quickly finish off the points - and barely any bloopers, everything seemed to be working. Don't know what happened out there, but I guess someone made the mistake to wake up the Lion in Fed. Very nice to see the sudden transition. Absolutely GREAT playing in the second and third set... :worship: - and calmly finished it off during the fourth.

Well done, Rogelio! 2 down, 5 to go... :D

That "mode" will have to go up a gear and to be sustained for MUCH MUCH longer if he's to have ANY chance against Nadal. If Nadal plays his best tennis Fed (or anyone else for that matter) have NO CHANCE of winning (on clay), even if playing their best tennis.

At the end of the day this performance will be good enough for Federer to reach the quarter final's, from then on he'll need to start playing his A game, today he really didn't care until he played the 3/4th set.

Scoreline shows: Federer is vulnerable to grinders because he still relies on being a shot maker on clay. Its funny: Federer was cruising along...until break point at 3-2 Federer in the third...where Montones completely choked on a sitter volley that would have leveled the set at 3-3...ANY normal volley wins the point...and then, who knows? Federer got out of jail...but if he does this against a Ferrer, Novak, or Rafa...he's toast.

Ferru or Davytanko have a real shot at derailing Fed and take home a major scalp. one of them could even land a spot in the finals. lets hope they make the most of their opportunities.

the key is to keep Fed on the court for 4 hours if possible.

No way, Davydenko will never be able to defeat Federer on any court, it's more than just physical and technical attributes, it's mental too. Federer will outsmart the majority of the tour.

Ancic is not known for his movement and Fed will exploit that liability. he is 6 foot 5 or so and just a bit awkward. i dont think this match goes more than 3 sets.

i would say that Fed is not likely to lose more than 10 games in 3 sets.

Fed basically has a free ride straight into the finals.

Ferrer might cause some damage but Ancic has no chance, his big serve does not suit the clay very well at all.

Nothing, only the usual that the not-blind fans know since years. That you saw what a pampered and spoiled little kid Federer is.
