It is so wooooow. Strange match. Chardy had wings.

Crowd was pretty loud but nevertheless. 2 good sets for Nalbandian, after that he was demoslihed wit 2 and 1, in 5th he leads 2-0 but Chardy was unbelievable - 6 in a row..

Outstanding performance from Chardy:worship:

Another come back by a frenchman to win in 5 sets :worship:
Nalby was even up a break in the fifth before Chardy played a great game to break back immediately. He then tried to choke while serving for the match before realizing he was too good for that and clinched it :sport:

Must be the comedian convention in Paris today. GGL loves 12 games in a row to Tursunov and then Nalbandian manages this gem of a performance. Chardy pulled this one off and I wonder if Nalbandian will know him now.

Too good from Chardy, I knew that if this ones goes to more then 3 sets it will be tricky. Nalbandian still ain't fully fit with his back. His serves were so weak that Chardy riped almost every one of them.

Chardy played very aggressively, played good first-strike tennis and Nalbandian didn't defend well at all. Barely making any first serves in the last three sets didn't help his cause and his second serves were all jumped on.

I think Nalbandian was injured somewhat in the leg it seems, he didn't attempt to make a lot of shots and was feeling his knee/leg after a number of points as if he was in pain even in the second set but it got worse obviously. I never felt like he was going to win the match after the fourth set. But how much it excuses this performance, I don't know because this ranks as maybe the worst GS defeat at least on paper although Chardy played far far better than his ranking. I just hope he's okay for Wimbledon.

Only saw the last few games, and it looked certainly at the end that Dave had a physical problem (abdominals?)...looked disinterested anyway. But Chardy...super play in those games! :worship: IF (and it is a big IF) he can play like that on a more regular basis, that is a top 50 player (at least) right there.

R3 against Tursunov is winnable...different kind of challenge though, as a small slip of concentration could hurt him quite badly given what Dima is capable of doing with the ball.

I was prepared too, but man, he really has two personalities on court. From the 3rd set on he just lost his confidance. Anyway, congrats to Chardy for a great performance. Maybe we just have to wait to the end of season to see nalby loose some weight and show us the great tennis we know he has.

Seriosly, Nalbandian to win a Grand Slam would need a draw consisting of 7 top seeds in the consequent rounds. Unfortunately for him there is always some might Kunitsyn, Chardy or other Stakhovsky somewhere.

 Yeah can't quite believe GGL. I thought Dima had a good shot, but not quite in that manner!

Wouldn't have expected Chardy to fight back from 2 sets down either. I wonder just what happened in those opening two sets...whether Bandy was playing as usual, and Chardy missing the ball maybe. I guess only those at the court will know.

Are you saying that all talented tennis players that can't fully fulfill their por

I believe he will beat one or two of the top 3 this year in a big tournement, maybe not in a grand slam though. And if that doesn't happen, it is still no reason to retire.

Didn't see this match but the result comes as a surprise to me. I really thought FatDave would get his act together this year and beat Djokovic or put up a fight against Nadal. The fact of the matter is that he is a 2/3 sets player and that's saying something. With this kind of performances you must call him at least over-rated. :o Nevertheless i won't take anything away from Chardy. Congrats to him!

Disappointing clay season for Nalbandian, after a promising start in the Latin America swing and the DC tie against Sweden. The pattern of today's loss is strange, it is usually Nalbandian coming back from a slow start. Great win for Chardy, hopefully this is not a one-off result for him.

Please don't overrate Chardy.I know he is a telented guy but anyone who has seen the match, can confirm that Nalbandian didnt even move correctly in the last 3 sets.He has some physical problems I think. In the first two sets that two players played their normal tennis, Nalbandian easily outplayed Chardy but suddenly the level he was playing deteriorated. There were signs of premature Fatigue in Nalbandian after the first two sets.

Clearly an injury or some other physical problem cropped up out there for Nalby. The difference between the first two sets and the last three are too substantial for it to be anything other than an injury or illness. By the fifth set, it looked like he was barely able to serve or move without wincing...Ab or hip flexor?... Hope it's not serious.

Krystle posted this in his forum, from Reuters i believe:

Nalbandian, who later said he had struggled with a leg injury, muscled his way to the first two sets in 83 minutes, slapping winners from both wings from behind the baseline.

... A forlorn Nalbandian, who had beaten Chardy in one of his few previous ATP appearances at Estoril in 2006, was less than effusive after his premature exit.

“He played all right,” the 2004 and 2006 semi-finalist gushed.

“All I can say is that I feel sorry about the way I played.”

wish i could read the whole post match interview, though.

Agree as usual. Chardy is probably the most underrated french youngster. As of now this is just one good win and the question is whether he'll manage to find consistency because he's got every shot in the book plus the power unlike his other countrymen.

“En el stress máximo aparece el problema”, indicó Fernando Cao, preparador físico de David, a la espera de los nuevos estudios que se le harán al unquillense en los próximos días. Una ecografía tras la primera ronda no había revelado nada extraño en Nalbandian. ¿Cuestión emocional? “Es difícil afirmarlo hoy”, dice Cao. “El tiene muchos deseos de volver a los primeros planos”.

David said:

If you could see the match,You could enjoy the tennis Nalby played in the first two sets.Winners from both wings like everytime he is fit but suddenly everything changed and even he couldnt move on court to respond Chardy's simple shots.Every sensible tennis fan knows what a dangerous player a fit David is but if you think healthy and fit Nalbandian can't reach GS quarterfinals, it means that something is wrong in your brain.

Pathetic, fat clown. I predicted this several times on Brain Death's thread on Djokovic but it is still painful to see such an obscene squandering of talent. Let's not pretend this had anything to do with Chardy. We're talking about the world #140 against (along with Federer) the most talented player on tour.

A new low for tennis's marshmallow man.

Agree as usual. Chardy is probably the most underrated french youngster. As of now this is just one good win and the question is whether he'll manage to find consistency because he's got every shot in the book plus the power unlike his other countrymen.

As of now he can lose his next match and I wouldn't be surprised.

In his 1st round match against Gil, Chardy had an hour or so (2nd set and first half of the 3rd) serving as well as I´ve seen a young player in a long time doing it. First serves non-stop, hitting the lines non-stop, mixing it nicely and clocking 130mph bombs at will.

But not sure a junior could have won after being 2 sets down...no excuses, even if Nalby was injured, if Jérémy didnt play well he would have lost in 3sets

This is not excuse. This is a fact. If you are in doubt, watch the match and compare the first 2 sets with the last 3 sets. Then you can conclude that this was a fix or injury.

I saw the match as well and mixing it nicely, yep that's the key. He's got the power, no doubt about it, but the main feeling I've got when I watch him play is that he can mix the pace and lenght of his shots with ease, at least the serve and FH.

In his post-match itw he talks about his next match vs Tursu and how a hitting contest it'll probably be. That's for sure but he'll have to remember what makes him a better player nowadays, having a gameplan including this variety.
