:smoke:

One of his best performances on clay, totally outclassed Chucho :yeah:

Big underdog to beat Almagro, but a very pleasing display and R3 is a satisfactory result even if he does lose.

Acachoker 0/5 bps
Muzza 5/8 bps

Too easy, Muzza.

Almagro next, should be a funny headcase contest.

Who said Murray can't play well on clay? ;)

Into the 3rd round :woohoo:. Take down Almagro and Nalbandian.

Rafa = Fed Killa

Nice Murray.

Nalby vs Murray will be a good old Spartan fight.

Brilliant match from Andy.

Chucho very subdued and flat today, hardly seemed competitive and he seemed resigned pretty early.

Andy 67% first serves, 9 aces, 0 doubles, 42 winners, 25 UEs and only a couple of really silly dropshots.

Can't ask for much more :yeah:

Murray decides to play proper tennis and very well at that. Superb performance. No need for the moonballs

Much much better performance from Murray. No pushing around today. Suso does not seem to care very much. He's got the talent but he was doing the ridiculous pushing today like he does every other day. Must be frustrating to be his fan let alone his coach.

Yep. Two companions from British Eurosport were, as they said, afraid of clay god, Acasuso.

I am delighted.

Chucho looked injured in the 2nd set but didn't call for the trainer.

He probably just had some hash brownies before he went on court and it took his body until the start of the 2nd set to digest them properly. There's no other explanation.

Muzza is too good. Maybe he'll win his first major here . Go Andy.

About damn time Andy. Hope this means he has faith in his wrist again and will start really going for his shots from now on. He should be at the TMC this year, he has the talent.

Great to see Andy out there playing attacking tennis and appearing to enjoy himself. I would much rather see Andy defeated whilst going for it rather than standing 6ft behind the baseline, hopefully win/lose against Almagro he will keep up this mindset.

NinaNina19

Andy had around like 24/25 winners in 3 sets. Imagine that and they weren't even tight sets really.

This is the most agressive Andy has played since Miami 2007. He has been very defensive since then.
He was sensational today and he reminded me of why I decided to love his game when i first saw him 3 years ago. Some of those dropshots were outreageous!!

Class act keep it up :D

Apparently, that's a disease of players named Andy. ;)

I think that I may call this new attacking player Andrew M from now on just to avoid the curse of the 'y'. ;)

There are similarities though, both at their best when stepping up and hitting big yet both choose, inexplicably, to scrap for balls at the feet of the line judges [Andy even accidentally hit one of the umpires with his racquet today.. hopefully it was the chair umpire.]

So good to see Andy remembering to serve & volley. He's fantastic at the net...why on earth does he cling to the baseline so often?

This was good tennis, though, and as others have said, it reminded me why I've been a fan of Murray for so long. Here's hoping he keeps it up. Almagro in the next round is a real challenge.:D

Almagro

And I'd have to make Almagro the favourite in that match, in spite of today.

It's another step up in class.

I am guessing he was more aggressive in this match?

Almost exclusively. His forehand was on another planet today. And hyis serving was awesome.

Easier than expected for Andy, too bad Chucho never seemed to overcome the DC disaster during this clay season. Now we get a very interesting match in R3 against Almagro.

Excellent performance. Great mental approach. He stuck to playing aggressive tennis, and was able to incorporate all his shots - lobs, dropshots, volleys. Great to see him hit some straight winners off the FH and BH. Look forward to his match with Nico. Will prove to be a much bigger test.

There's no doubt that Acasuso playing well could have made life much much tougher for Murray.

End of the day, though, he didn't. And Murray played well enough and capitalised on it convincingly.

That is great but it will be interesting to see if he retreats into his defensive shell against Almagro.

We can only hope that this performance gives him the confidence to play attacking tennis again. Until today, his match against Nadal at AO 07 seemed a long time ago.

Yep, was impressed with most of what I saw from Muzza today. :yeah: Only qualm is that he did retreat into his shell a little in the early stages of the 3rd...can't afford to do that if he is to give himself a realistic shot at Mucho.

As Adam says, R3 is a good result, whatever may happen on Friday. Well done Muzza. :bounce:

I totally forgot about this match.:banghead: Chucho down, next Mucho. I think he has a shot cause he has a game to irritate Amagro and make him going for more and more which might end up as an error fest from him.

R3 is not a satisfactory result, are you kidding me? Today Murray played great (for him), but if he dropped his performance by 5% he would have lost.
I'm still not convinced with him.

Well done Andy :woohoo: I only saw the third set and Acasuso did already look resigned to defeat. He's a much better player than what I saw today. He's 26 later this year and if he doesn't fulfil his potential very soon he'll be in journeyman territory.

Excellent performance from Andy clearly showing he has the game to take it to players when he wants. Almagro plays a similar style but I think he will be expected Andy to play like this unlike Acasuso did but mroe fo the same needed, it will be a brillant match. Almagro in 5 for me unfortunately.
