In his blog, Rafa listed all the tournaments he expects to play after Wimbledon and Stuttgart was not included. With the ranking points help he gets from Djokovic losing early in Wimbledon, he can afford to skip it.

funny thing is that 17/20 players are either from spain, argentina or germany  but i'm appreciating it!

stupid organizers put a show match with kournikova on centre court at tuesday. well, i might take some photos of her, but don't really want to watch her playing tennis.

Will Rafa pull out if he reaches the Wimbledon final??

I hope he does. He's been playing for many weeks now at high level and under a lot of pressure and Roger's Masters starts July, 21. If Rafa plays Stuttgart and reaches the final he'll have only a week to prepare for the Masters. I'd rather he do well at Roger's Masters than win another Stuttgart. He better takes few days off, goes home, rests well and has enough time to recover for the HC Masters.

Btw why isn’t the draw out yet?

Why is schuettler out.?

From the Mercedes Cup site

He's got inflammation in the right elbow and the physio has strongly recommended against playing Stuttgart.

Btw why isn’t the draw out yet?

Due to the fact that 4 players had to withdraw from the tournament the organizers are searching for new players and the main draw ist postponed until latest sunday morning (according to website)

Baghdatis is scheduled for an exhibition with Benneteau on Tuesday in Athens. Of course they could give him a Thursday or at least Wednesday start, but still it wouldn't be a good solution imo.

Hm, there are still some other players who haven't committed to any tournament this week. They could try Stepanek or Ljubicic. And where is Davydenko? Normally he plays every week.

PRESSEKONFERENZ

MIT RAFAEL NADAL

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren!

Stuttgart, 7. Juli 2008.

Zeit: Montag, 7. Juli 2008

12.00 Uhr

Nadal arrived there with Carlos Coasta (his manager) and his dad Sebastían and said that he will NOT play in Stuttgart...
He will lose his 250 points from last years win

He said that he loves to come to Stuttgart because the Director of the tournament was always nice to him and that he had great memories here.
"I owned you to be there today".

He talked about his small injury in the 2nd (?) round and siad that he fell a couple of times during the final and he had a very hard match yesterday.

So, he'll see the "local" doctor today (he'll probably go home this afternoon).

He said these last 8 weeks were just crazy, the schedule was "unbelievable", even if he reached the final everywhere (excepted Roma)

The Director was really sad about losing Rafa for the tournament and complained again about the calendar. Next year, the Mercedes Cup will have again its right place, 2 weeks after Wimby. But in 4 years, they'll have the same problem with O.G. in London. And they can't do anything to change it.

The tournament lost a lot of good players these last 2 days (Gasquet is now seeded #1 )
