Shit,I thought that France is supposed to be a sunny place during late spring/early summer . I remember Steffi Graf had always terrible hay fever and running nose during RG, because clay was so dusty and weather mostly hot and sunny, all this pollen in air...Now we have even in Estonia better weather, all week is dry and sunny.

Yep, pretty horrible... but it happens.

I have more pity with the players whose matches were interrupted than with those who didn't get on court at all. Haase - Cilic, for instance: they were playing their TB, and at 4-4 - match interrupted :o. Now THAT is what I call a disadvantage, to both players, as they will have to find their rhythm again when their match will continue - in a situation where every missed point can be 'lethal'....

We care about Rafa, because he is the one who aim to win it, so he needs to play 7 matches. Who cares about players who will play 2 or 3matches? Nobody.
What's more, as always Federer has already played his first round, although he is in the part of draw which was supossed to play later than Nadal's part of draw.

Our dear fellow poster is indeed not informed about the whole schedule where there are many players who haven't begun a single match. He/She probably keeps the eye focused on main contenders (hence the dismissive remark about Mauresmo).

Don't get jme wrong, I love Amelie but was angry because they put her match first today and now she is struggling and taking so much time to finish. She will probably go into the 3. set and lose.

 the tidbit from the lockerroom showed Nadal getting ready and then being all frustrated back on the bench hands over face.
Toni explained they were called to court when it started pouring again. Toni was playing chess.

Marat will be able to finish his book, he only had to read a few pages anymore.

We care about Rafa, because he is the one who aim to win it, so he needs to play 7 matches. Who cares about players who will play 2 or 3matches? Nobody.

   might I remind you that there once was a time when your idol was one of those players 'nobody cared for'?

What's more, as always Federer has already played his first round, although he is in the part of draw which was supossed to play later than Nadal's part of draw.
Ridicolous.

Yes of course. Federer, that lucky bastard! Always gets his matches handed over to him for free, while Nadal on clay always has to struggle... eh oops. :retard:

he's playing bellucci, ffs. this match will be finished quickly. i don't even think it would be a problem for rafa to play 2 matches in 2 days especially as he has the easiest 1st round of all top seeds besides berdych.

Your knowledge about tennis is below zero. Bellucci won 18 matches in a row in Challengers, and if you think that Querrey, Gremelmayr, Johansson, Schuettler, Berlocq are more dangerous players than Bellucci who has already won 3 matches on RG in qualies, then you shouldn't really post anything on this forum.

Exactly. I see nothing wrong with voicing a concern about a particular player if they are a favorite of a poster. If for example, Rafa and Mardy were both equally effected by rain while I may acknowledge that it sucks for both I will be more concerned about Rafa because I am a bigger fan. Again if it happened for Ferru and Robredo. I am more of a fan of David so I would be more concerned with him. It is human nature. Granted, at times folks can whine (and I have been guilty of that as well) but if folks are fans of someone of course they will be interested and concerned if things could effect them.

And I agree with you that just because Rafa is a very good clay player does not mean that he can play for days on end with no ill effect. I don't know why it is expected that Rafa should be able to play days continuous with it not taking anything out of his game. It would other folks and it can him. We saw it at Rome this year and Hamburg last year. (I am not begrudging JCF or Roger for their wins- just saying that Rafa did seem to be feeling some effects of the compressed schedule there.) Other players can feel the effect as well (Ferru anyone?) and I see nothing wrong with voicing concerns about them or Rafa.

Likewise- if Roger had to play continuous days at Wimbledon last year like Rafa and Nole did, I would see nothing wrong with his fans voicing their concern, even though he hadn't been beaten at Wimbledon for ages. We all want our favorites to be healthy and fresh at tournaments.

Since I mentioned Ferru earlier I really hope that he does not get too effected by the rains since he seems mentally and physically exhausted. Why did he play WTT?

I've been wondering about this too. It would fit the French lifestyle as much as the Italian: also a tradition of late supper and evenings running late [No, I'm not saying all French do this, but I know of more Dutch friends who take supper at 16u30 when my French friends have the tradition to dine at earliest 18u30].

Thanks for the clarification - like I stated, I was operating under a different assumption. Well, I do not agree with just saying that it affects one player and I never said as such. On the other hand, I see nothing wrong with acknowledging that while something may be detrimental to a number of players, as a fan you are most concerned with how it affects your favorite. In addition, I do feel that no matter how good a player is on a surface (Rafa on clay, Roger on grass) they are not superhuman and having back to back to back play can have ill effects. Those the themes of my original post- not saying that rain just affects Rafa. :)

 Very close to 5/2 but she managed to pull it off winning 6-1

I went back to try to find the original post by that poster that really irks me in the first place but I can't find it but it was QUOTED by many other posters. He/She declared Rafa is the only player who hasn't stepped on the court yet. Thus, I cannot agree with both of you.

Edit: Found it

I just came back from lunch and saw your post. I agree her first post was some sort of an irrational whine. But when asked about it, she said she agreed that it affected all other players but she was more concerned with Rafa. That's the reason I sided with her.

The commentators said that there should be no more rain today.

I wouldn't be suprised with the way they are doing things at RG, we can expect both Roger and Djokovic to play before Rafa. Of course, their 2. round matches are more important.

Jesus would you calm down? Play started early this year on the Sunday - at any other Grand Slam Nadal probably wouldn't have had his first match scheduled until today anyway. The fact that he will complete his first round match Wednesday instead of today is NOT a "disaster." I'm sure he's annoyed but you are being completely ridiculous.

He was actually quite good when play started. He dominated his service game quite nicely. I was obviously wrong to make a judgement based on the warm up. Still Nadal should have no problems winning in straight sets.;)

There's just a 30% chance of rain tomorrow so hopefully we'll get all the matches tomorrow.

Thursday -- PM rain s hopefully most of the matches will be played by nighttime.

Friday -- pretty good chance of showers

Saturday -- partly cloudy and just 20% chance of rain

Sunday -- rain and thunder

Monday and next Wednesday -- light rain :(

Tuesday and next Thursday -- mostly cloudy and just 20% chance of rain

They won't do this, because the last time RG did this, it cost them money. Play the mens QFs on the Wed, then semis on the Friday.

They won't start matches at 10am, so there could be some higher ranked players playing on smaller courts in the process.

It's not only one player that has been impacted.

If any player reaches the 3rd round before all the 1st round matches are completed, I might well combust

MTF is being too much of a slow and annoying to read back, so I know I'm probably repeating something that's already been said, but I do not understand why they didn't at least make an attempt to complete all the bottom half matches (bottom half was meant to be playing first) before the top half matches were played  :retard:

The obvious way to deal with backlog due to rain is to give priority to men's matches, scheduling them first. After all, women's matches are best of 3. However, the organizers may be afraid that such a choice would result to a lot of vacant spots when women's matches occur.

Exactly, I asked one of the linejudge and he said they're not gonna start the matches earlier but they're gonna use courts like #14 and 15 (where the players usually practice because they are no seats around) to get more matches in
 Claire
 Today sucked badly.
It was even worse since those morons decided not to start the matches again at 4 PM when it stopped raining and prefered to wait an entire hour and resume play at 5 PM just when it started to rain again :retard: I'm sure it's just a coincidence that's it's the exact same time they start selling tickets again for the remaining matches of the day:mad:

Sure. What happened there was a time at RG when the QFs days were separate.

Tuesday/Thursday : Womens QF/SF
Wed/Fri: Mens Qf/SF

What happened was the womens matches went very quickly and the crowds weren't there and couldn't justify the prices, so they have added some of the mens QF to bump up the program.

They should play the womens event in Brittany, but that won't happen.

Look at Chela and Isner. They started on Sunday and they might be done by Wednesday if lucky. Then there is Horna who is meant to be 3rd match on somewhere, given the way weather he is. He might start his 1st rounder on Thursday.

They are going to have to make some decisions and it will piss some people off, but any negotiation is going to do that. This will not effect Nadal though.
