If there was any question that Robert Smeets is an awful player, this showing certainly answers it.
Lucky one Berdych.

Action Jackson 05-26-2008, 12:43 PM Berdych is going to raise more of a sweat when he is banging Lucie tonight. Montego 05-26-2008, 12:43 PM How many matchpoints did Berdych save ? stebs 05-26-2008, 12:43 PM All of the great things you hope for in a clay court match were on show here. That's some scoreline. krystlel 05-26-2008, 12:43 PM Come on Smeets, it's not that hard to win a couple of games. Andre♥ 05-26-2008, 12:44 PM If it was to waste the Australian WC, they could have given it to Tomic. Poor effort by Berdych in that game. bad gambler 05-26-2008, 12:44 PM pmsl trixtah 05-26-2008, 12:44 PM double bagel...that's embarassing Voo de Mar 05-26-2008, 12:44 PM Poor effort by Berdych in that game. :haha: stebs 05-26-2008, 12:45 PM 67 electrifying minutes of tennis. Apemant 05-26-2008, 12:49 PM What did Birdman do to lose that game in the 1st set? Could've been a triple bagel.... Tom Paulman 05-26-2008, 12:49 PM How many matchpoints did Berdych save ? :haha: :haha: :haha: switz 05-26-2008, 12:49 PM what an unbelievable waste of a wildcard. Tennis Australia should have asked to exchange the men's wildcard for a women's so they could give Dokic one as well :o Tom Paulman 05-26-2008, 12:49 PM What did Birdman do to lose that game in the 1st set? Could've been a triple bagel.... I don't know, but he had a SP at 5-0* 40-30 Adler 05-26-2008, 12:52 PM He should be put under investigation for fixing that one game Manon 05-26-2008, 12:57 PM Demolishing... Allez 05-26-2008, 01:07 PM Not a single person posting on MTF would have done any better. Congrats Tomas. aussie_fan 05-26-2008, 01:12 PM great night, this was expected and then chris being his usual choker self. There were better off giving it to a junior Sean.J.S. 05-26-2008, 01:18 PM Congrats Tomas. :yeah: Smeets. :rolls: what an unbelievable waste of a wildcard. Tennis Australia should have asked to exchange the men's wildcard for a women's so they could give Dokic one as well :o I'm for that. Sam Stosur will most likely have a similar crappy scoreline against Shahar Peer, to that of Smeets. Not a single person posting on MTF would have done any better. Congrats Tomas. Er...that wasn't our point. Our point was that the WC could've gone to better use had it been given to a different Australian player such as Tomic. Fergie 05-26-2008, 01:21 PM WTA score  Tomas :yeah: oh la la. 05-26-2008, 01:23 PM lol stebs 05-26-2008, 01:26 PM Not a single person posting on MTF would have done any better. Congrats Tomas. I never understand this ridiculous thing some posters here have stating that we shouldn't pass criticism on players because we couldn't do any better. It doesn't make a great deal of sense, if it did none of us would be able to post anything about tennis at all. I mean just because I can't outrally Roddick BH to BH I shouldn't be able to say that is his weaker wing? Nathaliia 05-26-2008, 01:29 PM what a disgrace scoobs 05-26-2008, 01:30 PM Not a single person posting on MTF would have done any better. Congrats Tomas. I could have done better. I would have kept openly leering at Tomas and making suggestions about what we might do later, and got him so distracted and unfocused and irritated that he would have coughed up at least two games for me :) Machiavelli 05-26-2008, 01:31 PM I do not understand guys like Smeets, how does he have the guts to ask for a wild card for a grand slam on clay, and in the end he is so brave to go out on the court knowing he won't win more then a couple of games; hero of the day Mr. Smeets Tom Paulman 05-26-2008, 01:41 PM BTW, has Berdych ever played a match with only 8 UE's? LOL shotgun 05-26-2008, 01:44 PM Good start, but a shame that Berdych lost that game. Would have been the first triple bagel since the early 1990s. habibko 05-26-2008, 01:46 PM since we are at it, has anyone ever lost in a Grand Slam 6-0 6-0 6-0? time for some research my good staticians  Guigr 05-26-2008, 01:50 PM since we are at it, has anyone ever lost in a Grand Slam 6-0 6-0 6-0? time for some research my good staticians  I remember this one: 1993 RG R2 Bruguera vs Thierry Champion 6-0 6-0 6-0:devil: habibko 05-26-2008, 02:00 PM I remember this one: 1993 RG R2 Bruguera vs Thierry Champion 6-0 6-0 6-0:devil: whoa!! talk about good memory :yeah: dam0dred 05-26-2008, 02:04 PM Not a single person posting on MTF would have done any better. The guy didn't even bother to sign in for qualies. He knows he isn't a marvel on clay, and wasn't planning on playing whatsoever. Then when it turned out TA wanted to hand him the WC, he didn't refuse. I think the mistake lies with TA, and not so much with Robert. Obviously any Aussie WC recipient would have made an easy opponent, but I am sure someone like Sirianni could have done better. Action Jackson 05-26-2008, 04:05 PM Sirianni would have done much better, but he is not one the TA golden boys. Kitty de Sade 05-26-2008, 04:11 PM Way to give the suits, stiffs, corporate schills, etc. ticket buyers what they paid for. Truly ridiculous display at this level. :help: Hopefully, Berdych is not too tired for his next match. MissMelly2U 05-26-2008, 05:23 PM Grade AAA Ass Whoopin' from Berdych here. I wish I could have seen part of this match just for the comic relief. I hope Smeets has better luck (and game) in his next matches. :yeah: luxsword 05-26-2008, 05:33 PM He nearly bagelled his opponent in a way that would match all definitions of the word "bagel". :awww: Bilbo 05-26-2008, 05:33 PM Berdych is the real deal not GlennMirnyi 05-26-2008, 05:44 PM Good start, but a shame that Berdych lost that game. Would have been the first triple bagel since the early 1990s. In a slam you mean? If yes, ok. If not, you must remember that awesome display by Mello against that guy from the Netherlands Antilles. :haha: Allez 05-26-2008, 05:49 PM I could have done better. I would have kept openly leering at Tomas and making suggestions about what we might do later, and got him so distracted and unfocused and irritated that he would have coughed up at least two games for me :) Actually that would have spurned him on to finish the match in record time in hot anticipation of what you had to offer him afterwards. I'm sure the giant killer Safarova's deathly pale appearance is not as appetising as it once was. A tripple bagel for your efforts...sorry ;) Allez 05-26-2008, 06:00 PM Can we have some reality check here ? In 2004 Federer trounced a former world number 1 Lleyton Hewitt 6-0, 7-6, 6-0 in the US Open final of all places. The gulf that exists between Berdych and Smeets is infinitely wider than that which existed between Rogi and Llegs in 2004. This result was more than expected and disappointed fans should have done their homework before choosing to watch the match. Get over it or get on the court and try taking a set off talented Tomas. Justin425 05-26-2008, 06:34 PM If it was to waste the Australian WC, they could have given it to Tomic. Poor effort by Berdych in that game. :spit: azza 05-26-2008, 06:36 PM lmao sif not win 60 60 60 bad form. BryanAndBryan 05-26-2008, 06:37 PM should be automatic lifetime removal from the ATP Tour for Smeets Tommy fan 05-26-2008, 07:59 PM Ouch.. omg :rolls: Minotaur 05-26-2008, 08:11 PM Poor effort from real RG title contender Smeets Acer 05-26-2008, 11:30 PM All hail the new king of clay. Merton 05-27-2008, 12:11 AM It must have been lack of concentration losing a game there. Rumour 05-27-2008, 01:22 AM Poor effort by Berdych in that game. It must have been lack of concentration losing a game there. That's the MTF spirit - nothing but total perfection will satisfy users' demanding tastes ;) Anyway, glad Berdych won easily (to put it mildly) but hope he's not lulled into any false sense of security against Llodra. Knightmace 05-27-2008, 03:42 AM One less game from Smeets to make the score perfecto. Langers 05-27-2008, 05:42 AM Smeets? That the best we can do? Give a WC to Klein!!! TNX1.0E6TOPCA 05-27-2008, 08:46 AM Smeets? That the best we can do? Give a WC to Klein!!! or Jelena Dokic, she's trying hard to come back to competition and our mtf poster Sean would have been so happy. | |
