Troicki vs Gicquel
Q vs Vanek
Simon vs [21] Stepanek
[25] Hewitt vs Mahut
Calleri vs Fish
Santoro vs Mayer
Darcis vs [5] Ferrer

Always in Feds half  Though I guess the good news is Djokovic is in Rafa's half so won't be a Nole-Rafa final.

I am really happy with his draw. I just knew he would be in Fed's 1/4 so I'm glad he's in Davydenko's 1/4. If he plays well I think he has a chance to bet Davy and make the semis. Of course he needs to get to the 1/4 first.

I am just a little worried about the first round. Darcis is a good newcomer and he likes win against the best player.

But also, I am so HAPPY that RG begins. I have tickets for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, so I am almost sure that I will see my favorites players, including David :hearts:

Ferrer ousts Hewitt

Fifth seed David Ferrer advanced to the last 16 of the French Open with a 6-2 3-6 3-6 6-3 6-4 win over Australian Lleyton Hewitt in an epic battle on Suzanne Lenglen.

The thrilling five-setter was evenly balanced throughout and swung both players' ways before finally falling in favour of the Spaniard.

Going into the French Open, Hewitt had not played a competitive match since the beginning of April due to a hip injury, so it came as no surprise that Ferrer started out the stronger of the two.

The world number five won the first three games of the encounter on his way to comfortably taking the first set 6-2. The second started in much the same vein, Ferrer taking another 3-0 lead before Hewitt eventually found some form.

The Australian went on a blistering winning streak of six consecutive games to haul himself back into contention.

But Ferrer hit back in gutsy style, breaking to love in the first game of the third set, only for Hewitt to again display a formidable never-say-die attitude, breaking back in the sixth game before going on to take the set 6-3.

Set four went Ferrer's way as Hewitt succumbed to several lapses in concentration, contributing to a total of 51 unforced errors to allow his opponent to level things up at two games-all.

Heading into the final and decisive set, there was little to separate the pair, but it was Hewitt, playing just his third game on clay this year, who cracked first as Ferrer broke in the ninth game.

Recovery at such a late stage - after 3 hours 35 minutes of play - proved to be too much even for Hewitt, as Ferrer booked his place in the next round and kept alive his hopes of glory.

The Spaniard will next face Czech Radek Stepanek, who knocked out 12th seed Tommy Robredo 6-3 6-2 6-1.

Good tournament for him all the same & he's very close to Davydenko's #4 ranking :D

Yep, he could have it back if he does well at Wimbledon (Davydenko doesn't like the grass).

He was very flat in the last set but he really fought like a lion the rest of the match, but Monfils was standing at the end of the court hitting everything back. And he let David make all the pace. Big mistake of Ferrer not to come forward more. Javi and I need to talk.

I had to leave for work at 4-1 in the 3rd. Yeah I agree David was just putting the ball back in play and Monfils was not having an UEfest so that gameplan sucked.

I'm watching it now but I just can't believe he lost  he'll never have a better chance at the FO

I seem to recall saying much the same thing when he lost to RRH at RG 2006 - I mean instead of him Ljubicic made the SFs! (insert puke smilie here)

But you know our David is better at winning with hard draws than easy ones.

Nice tournie for him. Could he have been fatigued at all? Or just the wrong gameplan? Obviously I have not seen the match :p

It was a combo of both poor gameplan and playing so much tennis in the last weeks.
