Schwank :worship: . 19th win a row :hatoff:
Schwank was cramping by the end but managed to close the deal.
Carlos :help: . Time to think seriously about retirement.

Lord Carlos is out in the first round!

He had 15-40 at 3-3 in the fifth and 40-15 3-4 but lost both games. Really missed his chances in the fifth.

Schwank is here to stay. He alongside Del Potro, Leo Mayer and perhaps Guido Pella make up the new generation of Argie tennis.

Carlos

had chances in 5th
had 2 bps to go a break up

and what a pathetic last game to a cramping guy

Mr Plonker loses to Mr Schwanker :o

And Del Potro won too.

Schwank was badly injured at 5*-3 5th set, he could barely walk. Got some treatment, and won his service game to love even though he couldn't move freely... Great win.

Credit to Moya for fighting though, he was 2 sets down.

Schwank :worship: He earned it. What drama at the end, to hit the winner and then cramp up immediately but then come back and serve it out. Huge win, very awesome :yeah:

Delpo was playing some random Frenchie, Schwank's victory is much more meaningful, even with the current poor form of Moya.

Not too surprised. This year's been kinda sad, thinking how close Moya was to making the Masters Cup last year.

Only managed to watch the first 3 sets. The first time I've watched Schwank and I was very impressed. Moya was awful but Schwank got the tactics right. He was hitting aggressive off both sides, showed some nice touch with a few dropshots and an inclination to approach the net. His serve was pretty strong but his return looked inconsistent. But most importantly this has proved that he has got a very strong mentality. I really think he's got the game to translate to the faster surfaces. Look forward to seeing more of him.

Congrats to Schwank for being on quite the hot streak-- nice scalp for the current "challengers king".
Anyway, nice for him especially after the hotel fire and losing his "on tour" possessions a couple of weeks back.

But Moya
sad to see him bow out so early..
After last year, he loses a lot of points.

Moya = pathetic. Schwank is a weak ballbasher and was dead tired at the end.

05-25-2008, 05:20 PM
Well, what a marathon ... Carlos, you are getting too old for such fierce 5-setters. I think the crunch came in that long game when Moya was serving at 3-4. After being up 40-0 on his serve, the game just went on and on, until someone had to falter - and even with Schwanky's cramps, the guy must've been so excited to break Moya at that crucial stage he couldn't be stopped when serving it out on one leg, so to speak!
Sad to see Moya out in first round of what must be his fav. Grand Slam, but at least he made an effort to fight back at 0-2 down. Awful stat. on UE's though *shudder* ... what else is there to say? Que sera, sera.

Que grande el gordo!

Moya is already by far the most difficult test he had to face on his career. And he had to struggle till the end to win it. There`s no doubt that he earned where he is.

I hope he can recover and be quite in form for his 2nd round match. Whatever happens the balance will be more than positive with this triumph. He will have to get use to play with this kind of players. I think he has the game to be on the top 50. I`m very impressed with his performance on today`s match.

Aguante Edu!

Not an upset really, considering both players' form lately.Well, but as how the match was going... I say it is an upset, because Schwank lost the third and fourth set... he wasn't the favorite to win the fifth, and he did it cramped...

While I am sad for Carlos what a nice win for Schwank in his first grand slam. I enjoyed what I saw of him- he can have some good aggression.

Is it just me or is his face kind of like a chubby Nico Lapentti?

here is little video, last points of the match. I love how Carlos shook his head when trainer worked on cramping Schwank : he couldnt believe what was going on and perhaps he meant - I dont want to win it THIS way, I do want to win it MY way, outplaying my opponent on tennis court.

Congrats to Baby Gordo for the big win for his 1st GS performance. He has played so much tennis lately it's not funny, it will catch up with him eventually, then the MTF prophets will criticise him for not winning.

The cramps well he shouldn't have got treated for them, but such is life.

Edu showed some big cojones in the end; great stuff to win a match in such a condtion, and the explosion of emotions when it was over showed how much it meant to him, he will have a couple of days rest now....

And for the Latin lover Moya, perhaps it is time to call it a day, maybe he can go for a run in Umag, where he still is the king and that can be it...

I could not believe my eyes seeing that Moya is collapsing mentally in this last game after the injury timeout, all he had to do is to keep the ball in play...

Looks like this was quite a dramatic match but, while quite disappointed for Moya, am not totally surprised by the result considering his year so far. So the more I think about it, the more impressive Schwank seems and the more pathetic Moya seems. Break points for Moya at 3-3, blows them, and proceeds the 40-0 advantage in the next game. All the while Schwank is cramping like crazy.

Good job Schwank.

Very bad Moya.
