Rogi graced our screens for the last 2 games. They talked about him having to deal with the death of his DC coach and JohnnyMc said that he is one of the most talented players on the planet Earth (true) and when he plays well, he can beat anybody (also true). And after he won, Rogi blew a kiss up to the sky. A very touching moment.

I think its good they're not talking about Rogi. He deserves this private time while playing.

Mrs. B

Indeed, Lily. We all know how gifted he can be when he is in the zone...;)

One match a time, keep a low profile (unlikely as making it to the 3rd round will already make a stir) and just play his game...

Poor Michael, losing out 3-6, 1-6, 3-6 to Roger. What a humiliation, and still arguing with the referee at matchpoint, even after the game. This guy was considered as the fastest guy on the circuit a few years back, and he could hardly chase those balls from Rogi. Somebody once said that Rogi's best surface is hardcourt, wow, those serves, man, and i like it when he does the overhead backhand smash, he's soooo good at that. :)

Malisse scared me cause hes really talented, too. I didnt get to see it though :( cause of Hewitt/Blake. I'm really proud of Rogi. Hes in the same place as he was last year, 4th rd. Only now he plays Max, his doubles friend! :) A re-peat of the Hamburg semi's. I hope they show it.

Mrs. B

As he said, one match at a time, but this has been a big boost for him having lost in the first rounds in the last 2 Slams.
Saw that Hewitt-Blake match too, great stuff, and was glad that Eurosport gave the Fed's match coverage, in the 3rd set...(but they played it at the Swiss italian tv too.
But having seen the latter 2 slug it out and Rogi still not moving very well, i think he should work on that aspect of his game more, because sometimes i find his movements a bit languid. He needs more pep out there on the court!
C'mon, Rogz!!! http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/sprite10.gif

ROGER FEDERER (SUI) VS. MAX MIRYNI (BEL)
It's high time that Federer stepped up and had a solid Grand Slam again, and it appears that four months after he slipped on a world-beater mask by winning Hamburg, he may be ready to strut his brilliant all-around game in front of U.S. fans. There's nothing that Federer can't do with the ball, but he doesn't always have a straight-ahead game plan, which can get him into trouble if he isn't striking the ball cleanly.

In Miryni, he'll be playing a tall Belarussian who has never lived up to his potential, given the ferocity of his serve-and-volley attack when he's motivated --- which is not nearly enough. Max is not a great lateral mover, which is why he has such trouble breaking serve and trouble picking up hard passing shots down the line. If Miryni gets into a serving rythym and manages to chip-charge effectively off Federer's second serve, then an upset is possible. But Federer will know what to do with his foe -- pin him to the baseline, take the net away from him and make sure he's digging balls out of the cement all night long. Federer in four sets.

this came out of the official site of the USO. Matt Cronin's Pick

he lost

Doris Loeffel
09-03-2002, 07:11 AM
unfortunately he did

But still happy that he made it this far. Just to bad that the media started to put him under pressure again. (Yes I blame swiss TV who called him a favorite by reaching the 4th round.) O.K. I haven't seen the match and I do believe that Roger still needs some work too. But heck give hime some time and stop putting him under presure as we've seen again he's not ready to handle it yet!!

Anyways good luck today in doubles Roger!!

Gooo for it.

well i didnt see the match of course and I'm glad i didnt. I think Rogi should be proud of himself for reaching the 4th rd of a slam. And at least he lost to a good friend. He'll do much better next year in them. He'll deal with the pressure better. And he'll have more confidence. We have to keep supporting him cause one of these days.......:)
