Granby will probably have a much better field this year (last year's cut was 535) because there is a Challenger in Moncton the week after, then there's Toronto and Vancouver.

I wouldn't be sure about the Lindahl match, if the posted score was wrong it would still be copied from MTF by all the mug European bookies and scoreboards, so to see it there is not confirmation that it is correct. Better wait for the ATP drawsheet.

hope not. He was actually 4-2 down in the 2nd set before breaking serve 5 times in a row! (so i guess he got broke once in that run to allow ditter the extra game to make 75 in the 2nd set). its been very hot and humid there which isnt great for alex but its been raining there this morning whicg may mean it will cool down (and maybe the matches will be delayed)

Great week for Boggo, regardless of today's final result. If he loses, he will add 42pts to his ranking, putting him at approx. #198. A win would earn him 60pts, and a move up to approx. #184. Come on Boggo...take the title!

Did they actually tell him that??:mad:

Supposedly, yes. The timing of that "announcement" was very poor, and a little harsh imo (leaked hours after Wimbledon defeat to Bolelli...a match he couldn't really have been expected to win) but overdue. If he wants it enough, he CAN make the top 100 ("journeyman status" between #75-#150 on regular basis), and earn himself a reasonable living dipping between lower ATP events and challengers...

it's not boggo best challenger result since 06, he won a challenger in valenica (usa) april last year then was runner up the next week in cardiff (uk) on a different surface. but it is very pleasign too see him do well again. he played well and notts and played well at wimby even trhough he lost so i hope he cant contiune that in the summer, he doesnt have mnay points to defend so can make a seriosu climb up the rankings.

as for no more wimby wc's i'm not 100% i post some questions and answers from his post wimby press conference:

Q. When you say, "get another chance," do you think you should get another wild card next year?

AB: No. I mean, who knows. The criteria could be different. I'm getting older. I'm 24. There's youngsters coming up. So, you know, I'm not sitting here saying I need to have a wild card. Not at all. I believe I'm good enough to be top hundred and to get into the tournament with no wild card.

Q. After your loss today, we heard some reports that there was a risk that your LTA funding might be withdrawn. Were you aware of that?

AB: No, not at all.

Q. And so do you think the LTA should continue to support you as you try to move forward?

AB: I mean, that's up to them. But I've never heard I haven't heard from anyone about that at all. You know, I guess I'm going to have to speak to the coaches and they're going to have to tell me if there's anything.

But if they dont give him a w/c tehn who else is there Jamie Baker lost in straight sets at wimbledon in an easier match than bogdanovic bogdanovic got a set and took him too a tie break. Chris Eaton is a good player but not a brilliant player we should be giving about 3 players a wildcard because the others like Richard bloomfield and Joshua Goodall players liek that arent anywhere near good enough if they were to draw federer or nadal that would be emmbarassing for british tennis

Jamie Baker is just coming back from illness, though. He would normally put up a better show than he did this year.

You have Ward who can be given a WC. Still it seems Boggo will end up having one, unless they decide put Laura Robson in the ATP draw as she will bring less shame than some male players most likely.

how long can they delay alex and danai's 1st rd matches at their next events. i am assuming of it rains today they will have to play it indoors somewhere, cant keep then waiting all week.

hopefully Alex can get to aptos ok, he has a decent draw to make the qf's

I was there for the Bogdanovic-Widom match...and that had to be the match of the tournament :) There were great shots from both players...and the crowd was clearly supporting Alex. I wish him good luck in the final :)

was Widom a big server? i assumed he was.

Tennisfan-Mtl

Yes, Widom has a very big serve. There was actually only one break of serve in the entire match...and only a handful of break opportunities for both players.

Nope, must have been some nervous moments out there.

Congrats Alex :hatoff: I feel quite sorry for the guy and how he was slighted by British press during Wimbledon. One article was titled From Brad to worse :o

starting to like boggo a bit coocoo?

can we vote him challenger player of the year again ;)

he does get slated by the british press, but so does murray and henman so its not easy here. plus his on cpurt persona doesnt help as he is always clam which looks like he doesnt care.

No, I don't like him at all  He's a boring player to me, but I think that the British press are very harsh. Alex has become much fitter than he was, put up a good fight against Bolelli at Wimbledon and now wins this event. So, despite some poor results as well, he's putting in a fair effort and he should be commended for that.

its definalty a good way to answer the critics.
i agree he has upped his fitness, and been working hard, looks like it might be finally starting to pay off, but then again who knows he has done thsi b4 and not been able to kick on from it so lets hope this time he can.
his record in challenger finals is quite good, has won 8 out of 12, his loses have bene to tsonga, tipsy, moodie and niemeyer.

Bogdanovic :worship: :worship: :worship:

Good to see him show the form he is capable of, and come through 2 very tight matches in a row, winning 4 tiebreaks in them, so no signs of choking from him at all (especially in the final with the 16-14 breaker, and then the 3rd set breaker where he could have saved a MP at 5-6 if it went with serve)

Back to where he started the year now, so barring a disaster he'll finish higher than he started and so will have had a successful year, and hopefully this title will kick him on to making the top 150 again, and then go onto towards the top 100.

(and surely at some point this title win will be picked up by the media, as there's been nothing yet)

seen a report, sounds like alex was lucky, udom df'd on set point in 1st TB, the df'd again to give alex the set. DF'd to give alex a break back in the 3rd set and even DF'd on match point in the 3rd set tb!!
