Unless pitiful results these weeks, Kuerten is supposed to have one.
With five WC remaining, then, for French players,It does not make many chances for Gaudio, Coria or others.
Roger-Vasselin, Prodon for almost sure, Recouderc, Chardy, Devilder or Mannarino maybe, and young players helped by French Federation like Eysseric, too much contenders to let a chance for another non-French WC, I presume. Whatever I may think of that, having seen Gaudio win at Nice after a huge lunch, and Coria so magician at his time.

You forgot Patience. Good run last year and top 120, i'm pretty sure he will get one.
Hard to tell who deserves the most the others... agree for the rest of your list. Next challengers will be important.

Coria is #3 on the alternates list with his protected ranking, he probably won't need a WC anyway *if* he wants to play there.
It will be close for Gaudio, but I wouldn't rule it out.

You are right, and Olivier Patience didn't deserve me to forget him ! I wish him a WC as I always saw him behaving well, even a few years ago in my Paris suburbs like LePlessisRobinson or Montrouge for local tournaments!
I forgot Montcourt too, but he, as Haehnel, doesn't seem in such a condition nowadays to be among the top remaining French contenders.
And ... well done for Cherbourg and what I read about from you on another site ;*)

USTA Hosts Tournament For French Open Wild Cards
By Tennis Week
4/29/2008 8:23:00 PM

The road to Roland Garros will wind through Boca Raton for some young Americans.

The USTA is hosting playoffs this week to award a men’s and a women’s singles main draw wild card to the 2008 French Open. The wild card tournaments will take place on the clay courts of the Boca West Country Club in Boca Raton, Fla., April 29–May 3. The USTA and the French Tennis Federation have a reciprocal agreement in which wild card entries into the main draw at the 2008 French Open and 2008 U.S. Open are exchanged.

Four players will compete for the men’s wild card: Jesse Levine, 20, of Boca Raton, Fla.; Wayne Odesnik, 22, of Weston, Fla.; Ryan Sweeting, 20, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and Sam Warburg, 24, of Sacramento, Calif.

Eight players are scheduled to compete for the women’s wild card: Lauren Albanese, 18, of Coral Springs, Fla.; Madison Brengle, 18, of Dover, Del.; Alexa Glatch, 18, of Newport Beach, Calif.; Jamea Jackson, 21, of Bradenton, Fla.; Melanie Oudin, 17, of Marietta, Ga.; Ahsha Rolle, 23, of Miami Shores, Fla.; and Coco Vandeweghe, 17, of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., are confirmed.

Asia Muhammad, 17, of Las Vegas, Nev., withdrew due to injury today. The status of her replacement is to be determined, according to the USTA.

The men’s playoff is a round robin format and will begin on Tuesday, April 29 and conclude Thursday, May 1. The women will be divided into two four-player round robin groups. The winners from each group will play each other to determine the wild card. The women’s event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 30 – Saturday, May 3.

Montcourt deserves one, unbeaten in R1 matches at RG :sport:

Yes, and impressive how he defeated Benjamin Becker last year (I saw the whole match on court 8), but looking at his playing activity this year, he won a future and ... that's all. It will not be enough to pretend to one of the 5 or 6 (depends on Kuerten) wild-cards for French players, considering the others' results (Prodon, Mannarino in challengers, Chardy when not hurt...)or equal reputation (Roger-Vasselin, Patience, Recouderc). Devilder or Eysseric may get it too. Even Ouanna who had some results on challenger level.

Mannarino (never played :p), Chardy (Bjorkman), ERV (Daniel + Stepanek R2), and Recouderc (Querrey) are also unbeaten in RG round 1.. ;)
Prodon only lost against Agassi... and Patience Was all in control against Djokovic last year.
Mathieu has no chance to get it.

Mathieu might get one, but he isn't very deserving based on recent results. Then again, neither is Edouard, but he did so well last year that I can't see him not getting one.

Wildcard Stosur to compete at Roland Garros

Posted May 14, 2008 12:42:00
Australians Samantha Stosur and Robert Smeets have been granted wildcards by Tennis Australia for this month's French Open.
Stosur has reached the third round at Roland Garros before, while the 161st-ranked Smeets will be making his debut in Paris.
Stosur has only recently returned to the WTA tour after illness, and had her match against Venus Williams delayed because of rain last night at the Italian Open.

following last results in clay challengers Thomaz Bellucci deserves a WildCard. not so sure if he is psysically and mentally prepared for GrandSlams. but I am sure he can get 2 or 3 wins (or more) if he gets a decent draw.

much better that give it to Smeets  but apparently this is a contract between french and australian tennis federations

in Australian Open, Mathieu Montcourt (FRa) received for MD WC

It seems like organisers prefered to give WC for the youngsters this year. Kinda weird for Eysseric. He already had one last year and has shown these 12 months he still has a long way to reach the top. Given his game and being lucky with the draw he could win a match but it's not like he deserves the try. Roger-Vasselin,Devilder or even Recouderc must probably feel frustrated right now.

I'm pretty sure the FFT is largely unaware of who Polansky is ;) If WCs were handed out solely based on merit, Bellucci would be in the MD now, for example.
