Welcome to Pick-A-Winner (PAW), the Predictions game!
Playing is simple: over the course of the tournament choose any 13 matches in the Main Draw and post who you think will win them. The scoring points besides each fixture represent the points you score if the corresponding player wins. Whoever has the most points at the end of the tournament is the winner.
If this is the first time you’re playing or you’re not familiar with the rules of the game, here’s a link to the Official PAW rules and supplement thread (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=83408).
Commitments
In order to play in this tournament you should have posted a commitment to play in the March-April commitment thread (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=117337). The deadline for commitments is April 13rd, 2008.
Wildcards
If you haven't posted a commitment until midnight (local time) on April 13rd, you can ask for a wildcard. The number of WCs is limited to 5 per tournament. Any pick posted without having a WC or early commitment is not valid.
=> NEW From 2008 onwards we’ve limited the number of WCs for each player to 3 a year. You can keep track of how many you have used here (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=115122).
Posting your picks
Please post your picks in the following format:
PAW# Player A (winner) over/def Player B (loser)
# number of pick in ascending order (1 to 13)
Please use the official last names of players, not nicknames.
A valid pick must include the names of both players (winner first) and the word over or def.
Before posting picks, check that the matches haven't started yet. A pick that is posted after a match started is invalid and may be replaced. In case a match doesn't take place due to withdrawal or change of the draw, the pick is invalid and may be replaced. If a player retires or defaulted after the match has started (even if one point was played), the pick is valid.
Changing your picks
If you want to ammend a previous pick (cancel or change), quote the original post and add a new message. Don't edit the post and never delete it!
A moderator (bad gambler) will scan this thread every day to track on deleted/edited posts. If you caught cheating, you will be automatically disqualified from this tournament. In certain case, you might be banned from playing temporarily or permanently. Please play fairly, everybody!
Don't forget, you're limited to 13 picks throughout the whole tournament.

Hello PAWers, good luck to the 2008 edition of Open de Tenis Comunidad Valenciana, in Valencia, España!!!
The crowd is extremely excited to watch some of the best PAW players in action in our beautiful clay courts. Here are the top contenders for this year's title:
-PMK is Innocent: the defending champion will try to show all his display of good tactics and picks to keep the tournament in his hands. A true clay warrior of the game, former GeorgeWHitler and YayoMassa skadad is an idol here in Valencia and has good chances to win!
-Björki: among all of this year's participants, Björki is the best player of the moment, appearing in the 4th place in the Champions Race. Winner of Viña del Mar in early February, the Swede has already proved that can perform well in a clay court. Let's see if this is confirmed in the end of the week! EDIT: the title came in Rotterdam, not Viña :o who cares, good chance to prove that she can perform on clay!
-scarecrows: big star of the game, the Albanian Genci will try to carry his good runs in the US Masters Series events to Valencia. Some say he will feel the change of surface, but this doesn't seem to be a real factor to make a good talent playing badly!
-greatkingrat: #2 in the Entry Rankings, only below robus, the English rat is a nice shot if you want to place some outright bets. Last year's Roland Garros champion is still seeking a title in 2008 and a great run to improve the 28th place in the Champions Race. I wouldn't doubt that this run comes in Valencia!
-jrm: #7 in the Entry Rankings, jrm is certainly one of the biggest legends of the game. She not only has 3 titles including one MS shield in Cincy, but also carries 7 runner-up runs (2 of them in GS events) in her luggage. jrm is definetely a favourite in any tournament that she takes part!
-TankingTheSet: you didn't think that TTS would be forgotten here, right? A VaiBrasil management without a TTS mention doesn't exhists! The Dutch player always do great runs in this manager's events, so he got a permanent place in our tournament previews. Despite the criticizing of some Dutch fans, who said this will become a jinx soon, Tanking already declared that this won't happen. Winning here would be a good answer! (Specially because the other player in the same condition, Renaud, will be playing this week in Houston :ras:)
The Spaniards!
Spain is still looking for a top PAW player. Anyway, the future reserves good things for them as some players are joining the game and may suddenly become rising stars. Djalmha, Julio and Mount Goddess will try to start the revolution at home, in Valencia!
Good luck to all players during the whole week, and have fun :)
This year's edition of PAW Valencia will provide a series of 6 interviews with some top PAW players. They are: greatkingrat, scarecrows, jrm, PMK is Innocent, Björki and TankingTheSet. As soon as they send the answers to the questions made, their interviews will be posted here :yeah:

PAW VALENCIA INTERVIEWS:
TankingTheSet
Hello :wavey:
2008 edition of PAW Valencia is interviewing the top players participating in the event. You are one of them :worship:
1)Hello Tanking! It's an honour to have you playing here. What made you come to play in Valencia?
The manager of course ;) And the fact that I expected all cagons to chose Estoril, which has now been downgraded to 175 points :haha:
2)Who do you think is the most dangerous player this week? Name only one, so we can create a little rivalry here :boxing:
scarecrows is in great form, he is the worthy favourite.
3)As many other times, you will be again included into the tournament favourites by having great runs in VaiBrasil's managements. How do you feel about it? Some Dutch fans are starting to complain, saying that this will become a jinx sooner or later. :o
Considering my poor results in the last few months it seems more like a reverse jinx, I can't perform in tournaments that you don't manage. :tape:
4)What do you like the most in PAW?
As a player to pick: Ivo Minar, he often brings home good points.
5)Which tournament do you want the most to win in your career and what are your goals for the rest of 2008 season?
Roland Garros would probably be the nicest tournament to win, I like clay. My goal for the rest of the season is to come out of the slump that I had since the Australian Open. And finishing above 70th place in a TMS would be nice.
6)Feel free to let any message for anyone here if you want :)
Thanks for giving us this interview, good luck in the tournament!

PAW VALENCIA INTERVIEWS:
PMK is Innocent
I don't normally give interviews, but here goes.
1)Hello PMK is Innocent/GeorgeWHitler/YayoMassa skadad! You are one of the most famous MTF posters and having you in the field is a great honour. Why did you choose Valencia to play this week?
I always play here, good party city and I won this event last season, so I decided to come back and try and do it again.
2)Who do you think is the most dangerous player this week? Name only one, so we can create a little rivalry here.
Well the one I respect the most would be scarecrows. He has been in good form and plays well on all surfaces and is a tough competitor.
3)From what we can see in your posts, you seem to know and enjoy a lot the clay tournaments and players. Is this true and why? If yes, do you consider it an advantage over the other PAWers?
Yes, it's true that I enjoy following and playing the PAW clay events. Not sure how much of an advantage it is, it helps to some degree, but not really sure how much. It's quite difficult to pick the results on clay, especially when the players are fairly evenly matched, only takes a couple of results to make you look like a big clown.
4)You have already won 6 titles in your career. For Valencia crowd, certainly the most special was last year's edition here and they are rooting for another one this week. Which tournament do you want the most to win in your career and why?
Roland Garros and Kitzbühel. Well with Roland Garros, getting so close twice and forgetting to PAW 2 picks, when having bet on them with proper cash and being successful. Then checking the points difference that these selections, what they were points wise, would have given me 2 RG titles.
Kitzbühel is a fun event and used to go there quite a lot, this will be last edition of the Kitzi event in 2008, so it would be good to win the final ever edition.
5)Just for curiosity: why all these peculiar usernamers?
No special reason.

PAW VALENCIA INTERVIEWS:
Björki
Hi :wavey:
1)Hi Björki! You were the 5th top 10 player to join us this year, completing an extremely strong field. Why Valencia this week?
I prefer tournaments in Europe and if possible a different one to TT. It's very simple :)
2)Who do you think is the most dangerous player this week? Name only one, so we can create a little rivalry here :boxing:
scarecrows :scared:
3)You have already won 1 title this year and you are also ranked 4th in the Champions Race. What's the formula for such success?
luck!! maybe few risks picks but not to many.
4)Your 3 other titles were won in Rome, Toronto and Wimbledon  It's time to win some International Series tournament either! Maybe this week here in Valencia...
maybe but i doubt it.
5)What are your main aims for this year?
playing the Masters again, missed it last year.

PAW VALENCIA INTERVIEWS:
greatkingrat
2008 edition of PAW Valencia is interviewing the top players participating in the event. You are one of them :worship:
Questions:
1)Hello greatkingrat! We feel honoured by having the #2 player in the world coming to this year's tournament. What made you come to play here in Valencia?
It has less players than Estoril so a better chance to win :)
2)Who do you think is the most dangerous player this week? Name only one, so we can create a little rivalry here :boxing:  (Entry list: http://www.menstennisforums.com/showpost.php?p=6857410&postcount=2)
I think the defending champion PMK is innocent will be the one to beat
3)Between 2005 and 2006 you were runner-up in 4 tournaments but never managed to win the title. Anyway, in last year's Roland Garros you proved your talent by finally winning your fist trophy, and it came in a Grand Slam! What was the sensation?
-Björki: among all of this year's participants, Björki is the best player of the moment, appearing in the 4th place in the Champions Race. Winner of Viña del Mar in early February, the Swede has already proved that can perform well in a clay court. Let's see if this is confirmed in the end of the week!

2008 edition of PAW Valencia is interviewing the top players participating in the event. You are one of them :worship:
1)Hi Genci! The fans are excited to be able to read an interview with one of their favourites. Why did you choose Valencia this week?
I chose Valencia because of a mistake. I thought Eurosport would show Valencia and I could watch the matches and make better picks based on form of the players. But now I saw that Eurosport will be showing Estoril. Anyway it'll be more challenging to make picks without watching the matches. Afterall it didnt go bad in the 2 TMS doing the same.
2)Who do you think is the most dangerous player this week? Name only one, so we can create a little rivalry here :boxing:  (Entry list: http://www.menstennisforums.com/show...10&postcount=2)
Surely it's PMK is Innocent. He's the clay master afterall. But my moonballing and safe play might be a bad matchup for him
3)A little group of fangirls led by a girl named Nathalia will attend the tournament this week from what we've heard. What will be your attitude so it doesn't interfere in your PAW performance?
Just concentrate 100% when I make picks. There's plenty of time to dedicate to fangirls afterwards.
4)During the Miami Tennis Tipping tournament some players of this game made a little mockery of PAW. You having been #1 in the doubles ranking of TT and having great PAW performances, how do you feel about this issue?
PAW=90% skill, TT=90% luck, not for nothing you have fangirls that care about player's asses go in grand slam TT finals ;)
5)Which tournament would you like the most to win this year?
For sure a Grand Slam or a Masters. Never won one of those. Roland Garros is forst choice for a Grand Slam and for a Masters, as an italian fanboy, it has to be Rome.
6)Feel free to let any message for anyone here if you want :)
Let me win
:wavey:
Thanks for giving us this interview, good luck in the tournament!
1)Hi jrm! Thanks a lot for giving us this interview. What was the main reason that made you choose Valencia this week?
There is no secret - i luv clay
2)Who do you think is the most dangerous player this week? Name only one, so we can create a little rivalry here :boxing:  (Entry list: http://www.menstennisforums.com/show...10&postcount=2)
You know, i really don't pay much attention to the ranking therefore i always find the most dangerous players are the one ranked up from 50.
3)In your opinion, which things make PAW such a fun game to play?
I believe being good in PAW ia a great compliment to your tennis knowledge (heck, you need to luck along the way, too)
4)You won 3 titles in your career, including one MS in Cincinatti. Also, you were runner-up in 7 tournaments, 2 of them Grand Slams and other 2 in Masters Series events. This probably puts you in the list of great PAW legends. What are your aims for the future so you can be even more remembered?
I think i have won 4 titels actually (did you count Rosmalen from the year i have won Cincy?). Gosh, i have done pretty well ... my aim is to do well, be consistant and maybe, just maybe reaching the number 1 (with my tactics i thinks it's almost impossible). The biggest success would be if people would associate my username with PAW like 'oh, he use to play PAW and was kind of good'
5)What's your favourite tournament to play during the whole season?
Clay naturally, my favourite is Roland Garros (something i have in common with Justine Henin)
6)Feel free to let any message for anyone here if you want :)
Play, enjoy and results will come :wavey:
Thanks for giving us this interview, good luck in the tournament!
