Well I really don't know. But I'm hoping Gisela Dulko is nominated, I really like her.
Just one question: On which surface will they play? On clay?

Hardcourt. Which is probably another reason why Guille is skipping some clay tourneys.

LubiG - I forgot about the flag. Is Guille the best known athlete in Argentina right now? Who is his competition for the flag? I hope this doesn't sound mean, but that would suck if Gaudio carried it! Slap in the face!

Guille's Girl
06-28-2004, 02:19 PM
Crap I forgot that too! I bet Gaudio is gonna carry it  Would make sense but it would still suck.

But Henman carried it and thats because hes the best mens tennis player in Britain. Henman has never won a major and if anything Rusedski has been to a major final. So it must be because Henman is ranked top - therefore it surely will be the same in Argentina where Coria is the top ranked player?

Coria better carry it!! if Gaudio does, i'm gonna beat someone up!

LubiG
06-28-2004, 11:08 PM
Actually Gaudio is no competition. He may have won RG but Guillermo in Argentina Guillermo is like some kind of hero... he's our first top five since Vilas i think!
The ones who might carry it (besides Guille) are Ginobilli (basquet player) or Jose Meolans (the guy that swimns)
Sooo hope it's Guille!! :D

:umbrella: << That's the closest i could find... just imagine the umbrella is a flag, ok? lol

GG - Guille, David, Ga and Chela ... David/Guille (doubled). Is that the official team? Or that's who you hope makes it? If that's the official team, it's a bit interesting that Gaudio was left off. Or maybe he's not interested in going?

Actually Coria and David are waiting for a WC to go, but they're really looking forward to it and will try to participate in a few tournaments playing doubles before the Olympics. The entire team is this:
Singles: Coria, Nalbandian, Gaudio, Chela, Suarez and Dulko. And for doubles: Etlis-Rodriguez, Suarez-Tabarini, Coria-Nalbandian(If they get a WC)

I think they'll get that WC, don't you think? Both of them are really excited about playing together, and they did great when they were kids...Besides both of them are top ten so they should get it! I'd love to see Suarez and Dulko together in doubles, but it's ok, as long as David and Guillermo get that WC!

He's so so nice guy!!!!!!

I can't believe Ginobli only got 2 votes. I guess he's more popular in the US than in his own country?

Thanks for info gretel! :wavey:

I don't get it about Ginobili! Last year he got the gold award for sportman of the year! He beat Coria, Meolans and some other important athletes, I was sure he was gonna carry the flag...

Ginobilli is quite popular here. At least as popular as a basquet player can be, since basquet is not a popular sport in Argentina. But generally the guys chosen to carry the flag are like big muscular guys... they don't really care about his wins and that stuff. If they did i bet Guille or Manu (Ginobilli) would have won.

For those who don't speak spanish:

Carlos Espínola, two times winner of the silver medal in Yachting (Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000), will carry the argentinian flag on the next olimpic games.
The atlets proposed from each sport where: Carlos Espinola, Juan Curuchet, Guillermo Coria, Emanuel Ginobili, Javier Correa and Luciana Aymar. José Meolans didn't participate since he compits the next day from the inaugural ceremony.
Espínola won the election with 9 votes, one more than Juan Curuchet. This way, on august 13th Espinola will carry the argentinian flag again, as he did on Sydney 2000.

Hey here's one thing I never noticed: What do all the athletes do while they're waiting for all the other countries to march out during the opening ceremony? I bet everyone from Albania be tired by the time Zimbabwe gets done...

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is basquet?

It's probably just as well Guille isn't carrying the flag. Knowing Guille, he would probably injure himself doing so! Besides, he may not want to go to the Opening Ceremonies since the tennis doesn't start for a couple of days afterwards. But then again, he may want to soak up the whole experience!

"Basquet" is "basket"...as in Basketball...NBA...San Antonio Spurs...Manu Ginobli...
