Just Nadal can stop Federer in this tournament, at least I hope people will stop to talk like if Federer is dying.

Hopefully Fed keeps it up. I want him to win this thing.

He was up 6-2 in the tiebreak btw.

Outstanding.

Barry Cowan said he was almost back to his best and that this was the finest match he has seen him play all year. Cowan is the biggest Fedfanboy on then planet and he wouldn't lie.

Fed is serving great! About 75% first serve in and only lost 3 points with first serve through out the match.

fed didn't returned well in the 1st set, but served really well, and in the second Fed was just perfect, I have to say that Acasuso really didn't put much of an effort in the 2nd but Fed didn't miss alot of shots!

Roger was MUCH better than yesterday, several misses, but not much. Some brilliant shots, too. Nice net play.

Chuchu played very well in the first set to hold on to his service game and save 4 BP, but was unable to get anywhere pn Roger's service games.

l_mac - of course Barry Cowan wouldn't ever lie about his golden boy Feddy. We all know that Fed is garbage Futures player who doesn't belong on the ATP...

fed won ~ 92% points on FS , chucho had no break opportunities.

in the tie break chucho made some errors , then came back to 5-6 but fed served a winner.

in the 2nd set chucho went 0-4.

Well done, Rogelio! :hatoff:

First set was a very tight one, but Roger did well in the deciding TB. Second set, Roger steamrolling Acasuso.
I wish I could tell more about the way Roger was actually playing, but I watched the match on a very crappy livestream which kept on freezing all the time. So it's hard for me to say whether he was actually playing good. I'd say he did enough to secure the win, but he's still not back to his old form - whatever some idiotic Fedfanboys/commentators might say.

Like Rogiman said, if Roger (hence: IF) manages to reach the final and meets Rafa there, it will be a victory for Rafa, unless Roger indeed finds his old form back, which I do not expect to happen within a few days.

Apparently Cowan watched a different match. He's doing okay, but isn't at all back to his old form, at least that is my humble opinion.

well deon Roger. Still not 100% imo, but moving in the right direction.

The first set appears like a tight one from the scoreline and it appeared like a tight one watching, but I think Federer was in total control. His service games were highly impressive: %82 First serve, %96 First serve points won, 9 aces, for first set... The 2nd was in similar fashion considering Fed's service games, and with Acasuso making errors, it was easy.

The forehand and the backhand seems to go off sometimes.. He definetely comes to the net more often.. Movement, not bad...

Nice win.

Good performance from Acasuso in the first set, not so much in the second set but at least he redeemed himself a bit at the end.

Federer served very well and was never bothered on serve. Some very nice net play from him, the rest of his game looked okay.

:yeah: Federer
He was serving well this match, his movement is improving but still not great and imo he's still making too many errors of both the fh and bh. But he is coming to the net quite a bit.

I have a bad feeling about this time. I hope I am wrong but I feel Mardy Fish has broken Fed's aura of invincibility over American players.

after first set chucho gave up, it was ridiculous.

It was nice seeing Federer really chasing balls even when he was leading 4-0 in the 2nd set tho.

Tidy match from Fed. It is kind of hard to gauge Fed's baseline form since he was volleying so much but overall I think the underpinnings of his game is moving in the right direction. It is interesting that he chose to volley so much on a slow HC. Could it be that he is testing this style of play for the clay season? He seems to be getting good results with it.

My thoughts exactly... but if so, is this a good idea? Maybe he's thinking nothing else will do on clay?
Or maybe it was just a way to shorten the points in the hot wet conditions...

ranaldo

well he said he was volleying well so that's why he's sticking to it. Still, I prefer 2006 Fed who could win long rallies.

Federerhingis
04-01-2008, 09:15 PM
Well that's at least a positive he is moving better, his volleying is good and as long as he's got something back, his serve which is very important, those are all good signs. :p

I don't think it's for the clay season, he will play a bunch of clay tournaments to test volleying if he wants to... I think it's as Tchovs said, he does it to shorten the points.

And if I remember correctly he said something like that he just *wants* to come to the net more on HC, he thinks it's a missing part of his game.

He's volleying because his lateral movement isn't 100%.

Aha! Yes, maybe that is the reason he is volleying more than usual. Still, it is good that he is.

I don't think Andy is even capable of beating Fed anymore. Fed could be playing in a wheelchair - andy will still lose; he's simply been beaten too many times by fed to believe that he stands a chance. And without the belief that you could win, the best tennis you got won't do.

Acasuso played quite well in the 1st set, but Federer was just serving too well and chose the right moments to come in.

No surprise what happened in the 2nd set. Funny when that heckler was giving Chucho shit for not putting in, he decides to try from 0-4 down.
