Radek was up 30-0 on Blake's serve at 4-3* and proceeded to lose 8 of the next 9 points to get broken to 15. :o

Blake then blew 5 match points on his own serve after being up 40-0 before finally winning it.

Well played by Blake... Not very consistent, good job still. Hit some nice passing shots as well.

Crappy match.

Far too many forehand errors from Stepanek in the first set.

Blake's backhand and passing shots were very impressive today. Stepanek was barely able to execute a forehand passing shot and Blake exploited Stepanek's weaknesses very well.

Better match from blake compared to the match against Santoro, but still not a great match. Stepanek wasn't playing very well though

Blake into the quarters - awaits young Rafito.

Good win James, good improvement from the last match, :D He will need to improve again if he wants to beat Nadal though. Another QF at least shows some consistency

QF, QF and now QF(+) in the three biggest events of the year so far for Blake. That's impressive consistency for someone prone to bad defeats like Blake is.

He could do so much better if he wasn't such a mug.

This is the first match in a long long time that James was able to win a game after facing break point, as was noted by someone in a recent victory thread. Correct me if I'm wrong.

James is a basket case. And the wind hasn't helped much either.

Oh well, good luck in the next round James.

Disagree. QF's are probably about right for Blake. He is a good player for sure but he will never be regularly reaching SF's in big events.

Not to mention QF in San Jose, the F in Delray, and a good DC win

Pretty solid year from James, actually.

Solid for James, he must be very motivated now for the quarterfinal, provided that Nadal comes through against Paulo.

My mistake. I thought that depended on the draw.

For an individual event yes. I just mean that personally I wouldn't pencil Blake in for a SF spot at any mandatory event pre-draw.

Despite the fact that Blake used to beat Nadal regularly, my feeling is that the win in IW for Nadal has turned the tables on their rivalry and that Nadal will win in straights. We'll see how it turns out, provided that Nadal wins today.

Blake is a headcase, but he had a good day. Steppa wasn't as impressive as during last year's summer, when I watched his matches for the last time since today
We'll see how it turns out, provided that Nadal wins today.
Nadal used to destroy his opponents after tough and long matches (ex. defeated Gonzo in Rome after that battle against Davydenko)

Quietly Blake has put together two decent performances for the 1st two TMS tourneys of the season.

James is not playing well at all but I am always happy to see Stepanek lose. Thunderlips can't win without his gamesmanship tactics. :p

How the fuck did Blake win 47% of Radek's first serve points? Was he serving with his cock?

Hey All,

Great win by James today. His stats look 'aight, other than the 1st serve %. Well, he got revenge against the last three players he played at this tourney because they'd beaten him in their last meeting, so I don't see why he should stop now. If he plays controlled and aggressive tennis, he could just overpower Rafa and win the important points this time and right the ship. His problem, and the same can be said for a lot of players, is that second serve. He needs to win more seconds against Rafa and win more of his own. Sounds simple enough, but the execution of this plan is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more important than a little bit. It's a key to most of James' wins. And of course, winning on your own first serve is a key also.

Anyway, may the best player on the day win.
