Miami R3: Ancic def. Monaco 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-1

juan

this was a thriller, ancic wasted three match points at *5-1 with unforced errors

What a headache this caused me.. :tape:

Monaco and Ancic both see-sawed in the first set. Ancic served for the set at 5*-4 but was broken. Ended up taking it to a tiebreak.

In the second, Ancic had a dismal start and Monaco led by two breaks before surrendering one but closed it out on his serve.

In the final set their positions were reversed and Ancic started to serve a bit better. Monaco saved two match points. On the final match point, Ancic finally converted it with an ace :worship:

Overall, Monaco managed to dominate a bit better - he pretty much pinned Ancic to the back of the court most of the time but tended to get flustered easily by dubious calls.

Mario :D

The second set wasn't necessary, Mario. I don't know what happend to him. :tape: But he was fighting, after 0:4 and BP Monaco he came back to 4:5, but Pico won this set.

Finally a great win for him and good Luck against Davydenko! :worship:

I think the crucial point in this match was at *5:3 for Monaco in the tie-break. Ancic played extremely tough cross-court passing-shot from a position in which he normally loses the points - Monaco dived but he isn't Boris Becker :yeah:

Congrats to Ancic but he needs to be more efficient and less nervous when he is playing big points.

well done mario, even if it was difficult!

Very happy for Ancic. I like Monaco, but I'm glad that Ancic prevailed. It's inspiring to see his slow but steady progress following his debilitating illness, and his determination to fight for each result. Good luck against Davydenko.

Both players are awesome, nice work by Ancic, but it's a shame Monaco had to lose. Hopefully Ancic can go further in this tournament
