Hip to be there: Hewitt tied to Cup commitment

LLEYTON HEWITT will be named in Australia's Davis Cup team on his return from the Miami Masters tomorrow, with captain John Fitzgerald expecting his spearhead to be fit to contest the tie against Thailand in Townsville next week.

After some difficulty securing flights out of Florida, Hewitt was belatedly scheduled to leave early this morning. An MRI scan in Sydney should reveal the extent of the left hip injury, suffered in his previous tournament, in Indian Wells, and which restricted his movement against Jose Acasuso in a straight-sets loss in Key Biscayne at the weekend.

The world No.22 is expected in Townsville on Friday, six days before the opening singles matches in an Asia/Oceania group tie Australia must win to progress to the world group qualifying round in September. A defeat would make it the 28-time champion nation's worst Davis Cup result.

"I would prefer he didn't have something that's a bit sore, but I'm not worried that he's not going to show - certainly at this stage I'm not," Fitzgerald said.

"If he has an MRI, I think the picture will be clearer to him, but having said that they all get sore pretty much every week, especially playing the hardcourt swing over there. I've talked to Lleyton since he played, and he's very confident he's coming."

Hewitt's manager, David Drysdale, confirmed the intention to join Fitzgerald and teammates Chris Guccione, Peter Luczak and Paul Hanley, plus hitting partners Brydan Klein and Bernard Tomic, in Townsville regardless of the scan results. The winner of two grand-slam titles and Australia's No.1 ranked player will consult a Sydney doctor recommended by Davis Cup medico David Brooks.

Hoping it's all clear. Without meaning to stir up more crap, maybe Rafa should pay attention to Hewitt's physical condition and learn.
Anyhow, with a bit of luck Rusty can get a nice clean run after this :)

that seems to be a problem, he just can't seem to have agood run without injuried (let's say 12 months or longer)

i hope he's fit, i'll be nervous about this tie if lleyton doesn't play.
