He survived more than anything. I'll give him that shot towards the end of the match. That was just... :worship:

If Troicki could have just held his nerve...oh well.

Yes, that was a brilliant point by Roddick.

But he played a poor match overall.

Victor got a little bit tight at the end but he played very well. Great tennis. Congrats to Andy and his fans.

Troicki should have broken him at start of 3rd :o

Troicki was awful when I was watching. What a terrible choke on those break points in the third set, when Roddick hit defensive moonballs on the t-line and Troicki couldn't make the point.

Good match Viktor! :yeah:

Yikes.. Roddick was all serve today, groundstrokes were so un-penetrative..

Great point in the final game though, it will take something amazing to pip that one to ATP POTW.

Unexpected result.

Well done Andy for avoiding yet another :silly:  2008 moment.

What a get from Andy at the end there. :worship:
He really played like shit the whole match long up until that moment. He was determined to win this match the hard way.

i didn't watch it but i guess this was one of the matches where andy got through mainly because the match was on american soil. had this been in vienna, troicki would've taken it.

I think I might have broken a vocal cord or two during this match. He served in the 40's the first set; he loses it. He serves in the 70's the second set; wins it handily and the rest of the match. Overall, he brought his C game to this match, but that one-handed backhand flick crosscourt winner in the last game? :worship: :worship: :worship: That brings his score to a C+. ;) :p

I started watching from the third set and Troicki seemed tight pretty much the whole set so it never looked like to me like he was going to win the match as soon as he failed to break serve in the first game.

That putaway forehand that he had off a Roddick mishit was terrible, awful decision to hit it crosscourt and that cost him dearly.

JustJames
03-29-2008, 10:12 PM
Fensler: It was your typical ding-dong; Troicki approached the net and Roddick scrambled about eventually twisting and turning into producing a mid-court back of the racket cross-court winner that flashed across Troicki at the net

What happened?

(I didn't get to see the match.)

1. Troicki hit a forehand dtl which Andy retrieved.
2. V.T. hit a forehand cross court which Andy tried to scoop up the line.
3. V.T. hit a backhand crosscourt
4. Andy got to it in time to hit a one handed backhand crosscourt flick for a winner behind his back. :worship: :worship: :worship:

Andy's been reading MTF, during his interview he said the result was "never in doubt."

Scrappy game from Andy but that was expected; he's never sharp against players like Troicki in the first match.

Andy made the point of the year in that last game, wow. :worship:

Now that he's worked out the rust hopefully he'll play better from here on out.

Ducky saved 5 BPs in last set in one game. In the next one he wasted 2. Like always Viktor gives his best against the best and like always he is so close but can never finish it. Considering that he was and he still is under therapy in his past 4 matches (including this one), he is having problems with his back and it was obvious cause his was moving heavily, this score doesn't look promising for Andy's form.

Pretty ugly first set, and in general, the match was rather boring. Roddick was hitting with a ton of spin on the forehand. He was moving only marginally and serving even worse (in the first). Troicki's backhand was the highlight of the match, when it went in (which was infrequently at best), but he made poor errors when he had chances at 15-30 and 30-30 in several Roddick service games. There was a lot of moonballing and the court looked really slow. Overall, meh...

I wanted either Roddick or Troicki to win in straight sets. Very boring.

these courts are playing slow as fuck and those two were moonballing like there's no tomorow. overall an ugly match, but there was some spectacular shots.

I thought Troicki played very well today and Roddick played like crap. Tons of DFs and some pretty lame groundies. It would've been nice to see Troicki win. He just couldn't keep it together after the first set. He played a few good points to get those BPs early in the third but blew some gimmes on the BPs. Entertaining match but other than that great shot by Roddick, the end was kind of an anticlimax.

Roddick lives to play another day. Hopefully Minar doesn't trouble him much. I want to see a Tsonga rematch.

Roddick should switch to a 1h

He used to have a one hander, apparently, when he was younger. Given how crappy his 2hander can be(although it's improved), I've wondered if he ever tried to go back. I actually saw him hit a beauty of a one handed backhand down the line for a winner once. It was funny-such a shocker to see in match play from Andy. Anyone able to upload todays 1h'er? I missed it.

Andy had to dig deep, Troiki played so well and could so easily have won esp if he had converted on 5 bp in the 3rd game. Good Match.
"I was fortunate to get out of that one. To my credit there were a couple of break points where we had long rallies and I didn't play myself out of them by making an error, I stayed the course and was fortunate to get through that game. From there I felt the match was mine to take."

Saw it live and it was a beauty. Roddick was out of court and chased Troiki's volley down and flicked it crosscourt for a winner. It was a stunner. Brought the house down.

Solid performance by Victor, but after at least 5 break points were saved in the 3th game (3th set) Duck did know how to finish the match. The serve was the crucial moment. Congrats to both of them.

Interestingly Roddick's 2 best performances this year were in Dubai (not in US): defeating Nadal and Djokovic.

Viktor

You always lose these close matches against top players. You've played good matches now against the entire top 5 and only beaten Djokovic :armed: You need to take the next step forward :)

Super proud of you though! Your first ever time in the 2nd round of a Masters Series..heck your first time in the main draw of a Masters Series :)

The top 100 is calling you :D  Keep it up on the clay dude ;)
