No, just a simple lack of perspective. Nalbandian has always been like this. He hasn't really done well at these 2 TMS events.

The ranking is irrelevant in this case clearly, especially as Malisse is not some knobjockey and can play very well, when he is switched on.

They don't give Slams out on talent, doesn't work like that, pure and simple.

But you also know how good X-man can be and he's coming back from injury. This guy, if he can play as good as he can be day in and day out for a year, he would be in top 10. To borrow your word, this guy is just that good. ;)

i think you are right. look at Safin. even Sampras said that Safin was just loaded with talent that he could rule the sport. it now looks like he will out of top 100 before long at the rate he is going.

Nalby`s biggest hurdle is insufficient motivation.

It's commonsense when it comes to the massive knee jerk reactions on GM, especially when it concerns certain players. Nalbandian was the bandwagon player of the year in a place that is full of bandwagons, that takes a special talent.

Like that dickhead ArgieFan telling Nalbandian to retire. If he did that, then they would never win a Davis Cup.

That's just tennis and Nalbandian does things his way, the way some people go on about him this coming from a fan, they expect him to win every single event he plays.

i agree. he is still an amazing talent. it was just incredible to see him capture his 2 masters series events in Madrid and Paris few months back. he simply ran the top guns into the ground back to back as if to leave no doubt.

Do they hate each other? If so then why?

Xavier told the Belgian press this week that David wasn't his best friend, and that it would motivate him more to beat him.

It all relates to their semi-final at Wimbledon in 2002. Xavier had problems with his heart - play had to be stopped several times. At the same time Nalbandian was whining to the referee to continue the match. Since then Xavier doesn't like David at all.

Full credit to the X-Man for his convincing victory. He is capable of causing problems for anyone on a hardcourt, and hopefully he'll surge back up the rankings.
David has always been unpredictable and will continue to be so. Anything his possible with him, good or bad. The guy is clearly talented, but tennis players don't deserve to achieve anything in tennis until they earn it/make it happen for themselves. That's why I always laugh when I read comments such as Nalbandian deserves to win a grand slam, Federer deserves to win the RG title, Nadal deserves to reach no. 1 or win the title at Wimbledon etc.

Good to see that Dave is back to being called Fat Dave. I don't like it when people start calling him Fit Dave, it means the idiots join the bandwagon again. Let him enjoy his rally, he's only hurting his own career so why should we care? Besides, he needs things like this every once in a while. Is that smart? No. But I don't think that he would be a more consistent player without the distractions. He will never be the kind of athlete that lives for his sport only. That's his choice to make, not ours.
Finally, good for Xavier. I like him as a tennisplayer and maybe he gets the confidence he needs from this. Hopefully he has a good run in the rest of the tourney.

Ok, when you say he was outplayed and couldn't cope with Malisse's power, that clearly indicates that you must have seen the match, when it was not available to most people.

No one else said he couldn't cope with the power. How do you know this? Malisse doesn't overpower players, he does it with finesse and timing. You don't know whether Nalbandian was missing because Malisse's shots were too good, or he was being lazy with the footwork.

Hence, this is the difference, you are the only one that tried to add a qualifying statement. None of the others here have done that.

PMK, you make good points and you have forced me to apologise.

I still think its crazy that most people on this thread are saying bandy played total rubbish without seeing the match.

But i guess thats the way it goes on here

I just presumed x-man over-powered and therefore outplayed bandy (this was my mistake, i guess i fell into the trap of this thread)

Many people on here know about the power of malisse's forehand when it clicks.

No hard feelings mate

I'm so happy for Malisse. I don't care if Nalbandian was suffering from a hangover or stewing in his own bad humor or playing like crap. I didn't see the match, and I don't know anyone who did.

When Xavier is playing well he is poetry. I think maybe Xavier is happier in Miami than in IW where he played as if he didn't want to win. He's a great guy, and I celebrate each of his wins.

I saw Malisse played in the second round in IW. I was very impressed with him but at the same time I felt that he had some sort of mental hurdle that he can't get over. Every little thing bothered him. He was mumbling to himself, talking to the umpire, throwing rackets, and just very negative body language. Then, he committed 4 foot faults in that match. Who the hell does that?

Like my earlier post, Malisse is always dangerous in Florida. (That's where he lives right?) And Nalbandian can be inconsistently bad or good. It really didn't matter that David had a 4-0 H2H against Xavier. With these two, you will never know.

To everyone here who thinks that X-Man outplayed Fat Dave: I just saw clips from Thursday when Dave drove Indy Car Series vehicle. You should have seen his face after he got out of the car, that man wasn't thinking about tennis. He has glowing and joying like a little kid, never saw him being so happy, not after 2005 Shangai, nor Madrid or Paris 2007.

And that means Xavier could not have outplayed F-Man?

Well if it is possible to outplay someone who is not even playing then you are right.;)

Malisse is always like that, as for the footfaults well you must never have seen Gaudio play. He is the king of the footfault. When Malisse and he played in Rome, it was funny stuff, both saying shit and not playing that well, great tennis, with some stupid shit thrown in.

He lives in Florida, that's right.

1 or win the title at Wimbledon etc.

good post

Malisse isn't always like that. I've seen him many times when he was calm and cool and not doing crazy things.

How do you know Nalbandian was "not even playing?" Did you see the match?

You know that I have followed a SB as everybody else so don't give me that sh.t. From now on no thread can be opened or made a post unless watching the match. I know how Nalbandian acts. I made a post before the match that he will lose the match with X-Man when I found out what he is doing in Miami. He was always like that and looks like he will remain the same. I've seen a "zillion" matches from him like this and I don't even need to watch this one to know what happened in a match. Seen it before every time when he was not focused on tennis. Dave was trying to hit winners painting the lines on every ball not constructing the points(especially on his serve) and that resulted in loads of UE's and lot of break of serve. What I don't know is how well Xavier played but that doesn't matter cause when Nalbandian "is playing" like that anybody can beat him and they do that. If X-Man beats Sexy tomorow then I might be wrong, but I expect a beatdown. I am congratulating him on a win, but I don't think he outplayed Nalby. Not like they were playing for the first time or that Xavier had or he changed that much and now has the game to bother Dave.

Quite the match report from someone who didn't see it.

You hardly need ever see a tennis match really, do you?

Although I wasn't giving you shit before, I certainly am now.

I rarely miss a tennis match and that "report" came cause I have watched it too many. And if you are not able to predict how someone played (after watching him play all his career) then why am I even bothering discussing tennis with you ?

Skepticism can be healthy sometimes but that doesn't mean that you should believe only things that you have witnessed and that everything else is nonexistent or even non discussion-able or non presumable. That's kind a limited view on the world, don't you think so?

Ah, so here again we see the difference between the TRUE GREAT PLAYERS and the 'okay I'll manage a few Master Tournament'-guys.

It's called CONSISTENCE. Mr. Nalbandian doesn't have that virtue, sad but true.

Good job Xavier! :hatoff:

Well, it wasn't a beatdown but still a loss in straights from Sexy. X-Man stats are even better than in a match with Nalbandian and that confirms my previous statements.
