Yes - the man who so many on GM disparage as the "brainless ballbasher" won another match :)

I am so happy  And even though it hasn't quite made up to me for Nole's loss tonight - it has helped a lot :)

Well done Dima  What a crazy match - and very stressful to follow on the scoreboard

Another huge attempt to choke by Mitya :o
Served for the match at 63 54. Led 5*-1 in the third set tie-break.

Thank god!!!

Dmitry almost blew it again this week. He was up a break a few times in the second and served for it at 5-4. Then he lead 2-0 in the breaker before losing 7 points in a row. There were no breaks in the third set but Tursunov had 30-15 at 6-5. Dmitry again almost blew a 4-0 and 5-1 tiebreak lead before letting it get back on serve. But he got it done.

Dima was break up early in second set but got broken back and lost the set. Lots of interesting matches today, such a shame that we were not able to watch them.

He was serving for the match in the 2nd set, and broke Gasquet's serve at least three times in that set to be immediately broken back  It was sure not an easy match to follow, and my nerves are well and truly shattered now

gasgay is the most overhyped piece of garbage ever. he has the worst record of any of the young guns against top players.

now he is out to prove that he can have a similar record against anybody.

so much for that "beautiful" one handed backhand of his. he probably couldnt even beat his own meat.

dima showed us again why he's a brainless ballbasher. yes, he won this match but look at HOW HE WON this match. he should have won this match in 2 sets by 3 times.

gasquet also showed us again why he's the 2nd most overrated player at MTF and why he's a non-fighter just like dima.

wow osalsyst...i got excited just reading your description of the game.

I was sort of following the SB for the first set. I thought it would be a cruise for dima after he won the first set. good win dima!!

Gasquet should not be ashamed. Dima is a tough opponent on hard court.

Two sentimental favourites of mine, but I'm happy for Dima...he needed the win more. :p That said, Richie needs to get his shit together rather quickly...2008 has been a disappointment so far. :help:

God knows who will win out of Dima and Lalo.

At this rate ,he'll be out of the top 50 after Wimbledon(see his ATP race ranking),let alone top 10.

You're totally right with the first bit of what you say - he should have won this match much more easily in the 2nd set. I would take issue with you about your second statement though. Dima is NOT a non-fghter... if he was, he would have given up after all those missed opportunities in the 2nd set, and just slunk away and tanked. Dima's problem is that he gets very down on himself and loses confidence very easily, - despite his "brainless ballbasher" tag, he is actually about the most intelligent and thoughtful guy on the tour, - if anything he tends to think too much about things that have gone wrong, and that's why he gets stressed and does stupid things. Most calmer players can use this to their own advantage, but Gasquet could not

Having said that - I don't want to argue with you - in fact I don't want to argue with anyone tonight. I love the world :lol:

Under the circumstances, Forget should seriously consider going with Tsonga and PHM against the US. Good win for Dima.
