Becker could've been trouble for Nadal and was trouble for about 10 minutes. But after that, it was all Nadal.

Good, routine 2nd round win. I hate having to judge the match from livescore, but the stats look good. I don't know much about Becker, but I think he has a good serve (when it's on, anyway), so Rafa equaling him in aces is pretty sweet.

Congrats Rafa!

A few hiccups at the beginning of the match, but Rafa quickly took over business - and did it well.

Congrats, Rafa! :hatoff:

PS judging matches from a SB... sucks.

Kiefer is playing well and could cause some problems but i expect the Clay Monster to take that match in 3 sets if he has to.

"his royal vamosity" lives. vamos.

Seemed like a shaky start to the match from Nadal but after that pretty smooth sailing although it's impossible to judge from just the sb.

Yes, that's the whole problem! Okay, Rafa served EIGHT ( :yeah:) aces, but what does that actually say? That all of a sudden his serve has become Karlovic-like, or... that Becker is in fact a bad returner?

Can't wait for the matches to be broadcasted.

Yea, Nadal. :yippee:

It's a match he should have won, but not all matches that "should" be won are won. :)

Is that a record for Nadal

With Djoke out, Rafa better take full advantage of this opportunity!

You are right. It would be 5 pages by now for sure. I mean the Djokovic loss thread is roaring away at 175 or so posts right now.

It just goes to show that we like defeats more than we like victories. :)

Uh..|_mac, how many posts did you have in the Djokovic thread? ;)

Routine, unintersting win from Rafa in the early rounds. Jus how I like em.

Gof for the points Rafa! :bounce: Show The Djoke who the REAL number 2 is! :D

Yeah but he beat the horse face Serbian and that rocks! Imagine Djoker winning back to back titles? They would be calling him the new Fed.... when Fed used to win IW and then Miami....

He could win this tournament too. He didn't look bad towards the end of Indian Wells (save his semi).

Becker is one of the worst players on the ATP, I don't take anything from this result.

No, nor do I - and you just can't draw any conclusions from following a SB and not actually seeing the match.

I'm really sad for his injuries. He's got a huge heart, which is really rare and seems so driven. That's what impresses me most.:)

I was at the match. Becker was playing really great in the first couple games and Rafa was being really passive. But towards the end of the first set, Rafa really stepped it up and played fantastically. He was hitting really deep and mixed in a lot of flat shots. He hit down the line quite a bit, too

good stuff. thanks for sharing. Clay Monster will need to be assault minded against Kiefer.

its hard courts. its kill or be killed.

alex i know you are sad today. i felt the same way last week when Nadal couldnt get anything going.

its just tennis. talent is hard to deny and usually finds its way back.

better days ahead old sport. hopefully for both of us.

the key question now is with Djokovic still plan on skipping Estoril where he has 200 points do defend. nobody seems to know if he is going there. i think its a smart move to go and defend the title.

With Nole out, Nalbandian out and Federer playing nowhere near his best, Nadal might find himself winning this tournament.

Nadal is probably marginal favourite to win event.
