I didn't know their rivalry was this close, although I expect Lleyton to win the match on grass. However, Moya has been getting stronger with each round.

We should have had this same match on the grass last year in the Davis Cup final, as the decider, but unfortunately Ferrero fucked it up majorly. But now we'll get it at Wimbledon instead and I'm excited.

I'm not sure how Moya played today but in his first couple of rounds he was very erratic and needed his serve to get him out of trouble at times. Meanwhile, Hewitt was very impressive today. His returns, passing shots, and lobs were very sharp and that will worry Moya, so I give the edge to the Aussie.

The edge is definately with Carlos because he will be looking to end the points easily, depending on if he gets his first serve in. If his 1st serve % is anywhere near 70%, then Hewitt wont touch it. Hes been playing pretty good, I mean 30+ on the winner/error ratio is good and hate to say it but the only thing Goran had was a serve. Most of the lobs Hewitt hit, could easily be retrieved. Carlos in 4 sets. 6-4 6-3 5-7 6-1, thats of course if Carlos brings his game because all lleyton does is wait for the opponent to make the mistakes.

Moya can play very well on grass as he showed in DC last year, I think that match gave him the confidence he needed to actually put the effort in at Wimbledon.

If Carlos plays poorly, if he plays like he did in Australia he has a very good chance.

I don't really think he needs to rely on bad play from Moya.

Um yeah he does, hes a counterpuncher who waits for the opponent to make errors.

I don't really think he needs to rely on bad play from Moya.

Why not? Their games are very similar, Hewitt cant exactly blow Moya of the court, particularly as Moya is generally more aggressive.

Anybody who had watched Moya in last year DC final will not rule out his chance vs Hewitt. He played really well and beat Mark convincingly on grass.

But if I have to bet on either, I'll still go for Hewitt simply because Moya really is quite a choker himself, and that doesn't work well vs Hewitt, actually ESPECIALLY vs Hewitt.

and thanks to stupid starsports, I didn't get to watch much of any of them so far. Hopefully I'll get to watch this one, should be a good match...(of course each time when we think so, it always turn out to be a total disappointment  )

YESSS, can't wait for this match ... the 'Clayton's' D.C. final match of 2003.
And here in Aus. we will have TV coverage of the WHOLE match, so I don't mind if it goes to 5 sets ... with Carlos winning, of course!
I'm an Aussie but who says I have to go for the Aussie here? Carlos is my fav. ... he's surpassed anything at Wimby before, into this round of 16, there's no pressure on him ... so even though Lleyton is the favourite, anything can happen! Carlos is serving well on grass, he has a fair amount of aces under his belt up to now, he can win at net, etc. etc. Why can't he keep this up and beat Lleyton? (Read Lleyton's latest interview on the wimbledon website for more good things about Carlos, Lleyton has a lot of respect for him ...)

I really hope Carlos wins, but if not, I'm sure the match will be played in good spirit ... let's hope it's THE match of Monday!

VAMOS CARLOS!

I don't know ... because statistically Lleyton is the better player? Because all of the top men are capable of beating each other on their best day?

i would seriously be amazed if hewitt loses......
you look at his statistics, his winners-UE ratio is so scaringly good, and he's not lost his serve in all of his matches at wimby, not even a break point against goran!

i would rate him and federer as the best on-form mens players at wimby now

I'm hoping the fast surface will neutralise Moya's power by not affording him the time he needs to wind up his powerful forehand. If Hewitt can find himself in rallies with Moya and get him moving around I think he can break him down.

Lleyton is playing pretty solid right now and if he continues to serve the way he has for the whole tournament he should be in with a great chance.

However, one thing I'd like to see Lleyton improve is his forehand service returns. His forehand returns have looked a little fragile of late.

I also wish he would stand a little closer to the baseline when returning serve and wouldn't allow the big servers to get outrageous angles on him and move him way out of court. That's something Federer does extremely well to Lleyton and its something Lleyton will have to think about if he does face Federer.

Jazzy
06-26-2004, 09:26 AM
it'll be a tough match for both players and who ever wins has a tough match ahead most probably Roger Federer in the next match!! - but yeh, Lleyton has surprised me with his serve in this tournament so far and as said before Moya did beat Flip last yeaer in November

Um Moya beat Hewitt at the Cup which is indoors and its fast. I'm sure Moya will be fine in the match. I think he probably believes he can win and I hope he does. It will all come down to his error count. Moya can blow Hewitt away and just is really a great grass player. I wish he would wake up and realize it. I say Moya in 4 sets.

Well, Moya has been getting better with each match. Moya has always posed a threat to Lleyton, even back in the years when Moya hadn't gotten back to this level. I think, maybe, psychologically they'll think about it. Moya just seems more confident right now.

I'm rooting for Moya, but I think Hewitt'll probably win, but not in straights.

YoursTruly
06-26-2004, 03:41 PM
Carlos is just much stronger and natural than Lleyton, that's why I really believe he could win this quite easily despite my being so biased to Carlos!! What he needs to do is overpower, but not all the time because Lleyton could use the pace, but instead it should be a combination of overpowering and doing things to take Lleyton away from his comfort zone. Mix things up while sticking to your game. I know Carlos can do this because he does this all the time against different kinds of opponents.

I think Hewitt is going to take the match in four sets, he did so well in queens. Another thing is Moya didn't play a match with any good players in earlier round. Even Patience took him to 5 sets, Hewitt is yet to loose a set and looks very in good touch.

I think that it will be a close match but I think that Carlos can win it. He knows how to beat Lleyton and he is a pretty good player on grass as he demonstrated in Davis Cup against Philippoussis last year. I think he just might win it but it will be tight.

I think Hewitt will win this one. If his return game is on like it was against Goran, he should be able to readily handle Carlos.

Fedex
06-27-2004, 02:48 AM
I think Carlos' serve is better now, Goran's serve isnt the same as it once was. Moya has much more firepower from the back, and will dominate Hewitt from the back, and he also is a good volleyer.

pandy is roddick right? he's been playing well, straight sets. but you look at the socres of the sets, they are pretty tight. and he's been having far more easier opponents than hewitt has, but he's lost more games than hewitt has. look at his opponents, wang and peya, certainly not people he sould be having any trouble with
the same goes with henman

Very Hard... Hewitt have the best head of the tour, in five sets, in grass, with top form...when the matches are long the chances of Hewitt grew up more and more.

Moya is unpredecible, he can lost 61 63 62 or win easy. but . my prediction . Hewitt in four.

But i´ll support Moyá of course. Good Luck.

What I really think, even though I don't know actually very well for what reason, is that Moyá's chances were much bigger in that possible 5th DAVIS CUP final match in Australia than now in Wimbledon. However, if he has a great day he can beat Lleyton... which is what I hope.
