I guess we do need one. I'll start it. Even though there's not that many of us...

Even though there's not that many of us...I bet when Andy wins his first GS that will change ;)

Andy has a good draw for Holland, i can easily see at least the Semis again

I think he will win or at least that he can. I would like to see a Nadal-Murray final and see Andy take him down. But somehow I don't think Nadal will get that far.

And I also expect to see Nadal-Murray final!

still, i have faith in him

I hate that Blake is ahead of Andy in the rankings. He sucks imo for a top 10 player and the American commentators never shut up about him here.

Corey Feldman
02-19-2008, 10:29 PM
its not that important, everyone knows Andy's ranking should be better because he lost .. pretty much 6 months of last year - big chances to make those points after Miami

NinaNina19
02-19-2008, 10:32 PM
Hopefully he'll be top 5 by the end of the US Open. Now all he needs is a good draw at Miami and IW.

I'd imagine Andy asked for a Weds start because of his exploits in Marseille last week. And I know my lovely Rafa did because he wanted to watch the RM game tonight.

But, yeah, all the big names seem to be playing tomorrow.

Andy's start time is crap for me again. Same old story as Marseille last week

Hello :wavey:

I have just seen this thread for the first time, and read through from the start. I have only recently been looking in the players' forums section. I have been following Andy (well, at first, desperately trying to find out something about him with little success!) since he won the USO Juniors. The first time I actually saw him play was Queen's 05, and I thought, "Wow! this lad has potential! He is different!"

I spend most of my time on britishtennis.net, which started out as an Andrew Murray message board - remember how he used to be called Andrew at first? - but have usually come to MTF when I need a laugh at the wars between posters. Now Andy is making a big name for himself I expect him to gather a lot of haters as well, so maybe I should stay in this section for safety!

#4 in both race and entry rankings, and guaranteed to play in Shanghai:worship:

Nina - don't you need to unbold and italicise Nadal's name in your signature?

Novak, at this rate. I don't really see Roger ending the year at 4, or even 3 for that matter.

If Djokovic stays 3 until the AO but doesn't defend his title that would give Andy an opportunity. :D

NinaNina19

I agree, Andy can surpass Novak. He has a lot of points to gain in the first half of the year if he goes by his seeding.Especially in the early year hard-courts.

Davis Cup next weekend, then Madrid yes (so far, unless he requests a WC somewhere).

He can't gain too many points from optionals so it seems like he's taking it a bit easy prior to the last few events of the season - Madrid, St Petersburg, Paris and the Masters Cup.

Don't you watch Davis Cup, Linda? I'm not madly keen on the whole nationalistic Davis Cup thing, but as I usually can only see Andy on TV at Queens and Wimbledon, a few days of tennis (and Andy) on TV is fine by me.

He will be playing 3 weeks in a row with Madrid/St Petersburg/Paris, so I doubt if he will play anything before Madrid. Dull for us but better for his health.

Did you see that GM thread about the rift between the brothers Murray?

I missed their OG doubles ... what happened? Were they arguing on court?

scoobs
09-14-2008, 11:04 AM
No but the body language between them was not good at all - they looked like they didn't want to be on the same court.

But I suspected at the time, and still do, that they just had a one-off argument.

I think far too much is being made of all this - they've had some rows from time to time but I don't believe in this "rift".

Frankly, I think Jamie left New York early because he knew he was due to be back in Dunblane to open the new school there, and he's in the process of sorting his own flat out, and frankly he may not have expected Andy to get past Nadal :)

i'm not too bothered about DC matches - as long as Andy doesnt injure or over play himself for the (lost?) cause .. like Henman always did

Who do you guys hope makes it to Shangai? I hope Del Potro, only to make things more interesting.i'd like the bigger names .. so Roddick, Blake, Gonzalez and Davydenko

yes...and it makes me

DelPo is too good for russian players...we are not in a very good form now :o
DelPo is totally overrated. Andreev and Davydenko are both better claycourt players IMO.

My bf is being so incredibly irritating just now that I am now hopeing for a Russia victory

I enjoyed it, but I'd rather Rafa had won another Slam  It was obvious it meant a lot to the players though.

Just catching up on what I missed when I went for an early bath last night. . .

Do I post on am.com? Yes, though under a different name, but the same avatar. You would have to look hard to find me though, I think I have less than a dozen posts, and half of them were in the "jokes" thread. I use it mostly to get early info on Andy; I usually stay well away from players' websites as they are often too sycophantic.

Who to hope for in Shanghai? Well, I have to hope Ferrer, Blake and Roddick make it, so Andy has a chance to beat them and Nininina can unbold and italicise them in her sig.:D

Sigh. Roll on Friday, I'm bored without tennis. Incidentally for UK viewers, the matches do continue "on the red button" on Friday - not mentioned on other days http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/6102132.stm I think the home #1 does usually play first, but as Andy doesn't like early starts they may do it the other way round. . .

pretty sure i'll be at work... what annoys me more is missing start of the Ryder Cup TBH

DC on telly is all about watching the Boggo, Parmar's and Alan Mackin's of our team getting spanked :o

watched Henman's retirement last year and also remember a young Nole spanking Parmar and Rusedski at Braehead Arena

According to Davis Cup Rules & Regulations:
http://www.daviscup.com/shared/medialibrary/pdf/original/DC_8631_original.PDF
(Page 18, Paragraph 37.b)

"The Number One ranked player of each team shall play against the Number Two of the opposing team on the first day, and the order of play shall be decided by lot".

Therefore, Friday' schedule should be: [Andy Murray vs. Alexander Peya] and [Alex Bogdanovic vs. Jurgen Melzer].
Don't know which match will be played first.

I don't care either. Like I didn't care about the Olympics.

Well, patriotism and pride are things that fail to make me float in ecstasy.
Speaking about Davis Cup, it's the players' eagerness to play for their homeland that makes me interested in it. Of course this is not always the case. For example, I fully understood Andy's refusal to play the tie in Argentina seven months ago. He sparked intense debate, even furore, back then though. Well, it was a wise decision... :) Recently, Marcos Baghdatis' refusal to play the tie against Portugal has been condemned by the Cypriot media. They tried to make him feel like a traitor. Silly things. Even worse than that, I dare to say it is dangerous propaganda.
But, when a player for whom I root fulheartedly embraces the DC, then I'm behind him all the way. Nalbandian is a great example in this area. I strongly hope Argentina does well this weekend.

Sorry about that, Oksana.

Agreed Getta. Almost everything you said applies to me - except I'm rooting for Russia. :p

I'm not very patriotic at all. In fact, I'd rather be in Spain right now.

Yeah I too find excessive patriotism extremely distasteful - what I enjoy about Davis Cup is the fact that it is a little bit different than the usual tour events and the different atmosphere, if kept within bounds, can add something to the tennis, and inspire the players in different ways to the normal tour.

But I don't feel that every eligible player has an unbreakable duty to play every tie, come what may - they are entitled to decide to skip ties if they feel they must, and I have no problem with that.

Melzer has been trying a few mindgames prior to our Davis Cup tie this weekend.

"Andy isn't in an easy position because the whole country expects him to win the Davis Cup by himself," Melzer said.

"After playing such a great grand slam I imagine it would be tough to get your head clear and focus on the next one. It's a big one. "Britain want to be in the World Group so there's a lot of pressure on his shoulders. Let's see how he copes with that on the weekend."

Andy was having none of it, though, and was typically forthright in his response.

"I don't think there's a lot of pressure on me. Jurgen doesn't have a particularly good Davis Cup record," said the 21-year-old.

Ouch!
