Mardy's next tourney is Nottingham, where he has finalist points to defend (he had lost to Greg Rusedski).
Mardy is seeded No. 2 here (after PDorn) and he plays Hanescu in the first round on Tuesday. They've never played each other before.

This is his tournement. No excuses for not winning this one :) Srichaphan is a good grass court player, but has been out of form for some time now.

Mardy Fish Forced To Withdraw
14th June 2004
Mardy Fish (USA) no.2 seed at the Nottingham Open 2004 presented by The Sunday Telegraph has been forced to withdraw from The Nottingham Open. The 2003 singles finalist who lost in his Halle final at the weekend has withdrawn due to a recurring hip injury.
Patrick Hughesman, tournament director, said: Obviously it’s very frustrating to lose our no.2 seed who has been so supportive of the event in the past. We wish him a speedy recovery in time for his forthcoming Grand Slam event at Wimbledon.”
Fish’s withdrawal means that Germany’s Sebastian Fitz (ranked 343 in world) has the lucky opportunity to come into the main draw as a lucky loser (highest ranked player to lose in the final round of qualifying).

Gah! The fact that the final was between PDorn and Johansson is like pouring salt in the wound. Mardy, this title could've been yours. Hip injuries suck. :banghead:

lol tangy.... they're actually good grass players. ToJo had actually never lost at nottingham before and PDorn is a fast surface kind of guy. So it's not a lock that Mardy would've won!
