Certainly : Llodra ( double )
Maybe Grosjean ...

I hope Guy Forget will take Jo-Wilfried he really deserves it but if he continues like that in the Australia Open he's not gonna be fresh :p ( tired )

Well, I am sure as far as singles, it will be Richard and Jo. Richard will be number 1 because his ranking is higher. Doubles, I think we'll see Llodra/Clement or Grosjean.

With Tsonga taking some attention away from Richard with his AO run, it should be easier for Richie now as far as Davis Cup pressure and overall results.

Both will however probably play singles.

On Tuesday, I think.

Edit: Or maybe not, I don't know. :p
I only noticed everybody was mentioning Tuesday in interviews in the past few days - Dominguez said for example Jo's selection was not official yet, but would be confirmed on Tuesday - but I'm not sure, maybe it was just for Jo and the players, and it will be made public later.

HUMM very interesting. Maybe Richie and Llodra for doubles? but have they ever even played together? Right now Richie is not one of the top 2 French singles players but I'm not sure who is - Actually Benneteau is pretty hot the past few weeks despite his collapse against Roddick tonight. Richard has had very good double results so far this year and I would say is the second best doubles player in the lineup. Bet Forget doesn't even know what he has in mind.

I actually haven't flown since pre-9/11 so I'm a bit nervous about all the security measures. Do they still limit your liquids to 3 oz and you have to pack it in a separate bag from your suitcase so it can be searched? Does it take like 2 and 3 hours to go through a security check-in?

But, yes, I am SOOOOOO excited. I don't care how far I will be away from the court in the stadium... I get to be in the presence of the Roddick serve and the Gasquet backhand and Clement's and Blake's looks. :inlove:

Richie could end up being the 5th man. Sounds like Forget is leaning toward Tsonga and Mathieu and I just can't see Forget breaking up Llorda/Clement. Wish Forget and everyone else would stop talking about his stamina. It's been a long time since stamina was the reason Richie lost a match. Brain stamina, yes a problem, but physically I think he can go the distance now.

I've been waiting to see RIchie play in this DC for a long time and I'll be bummed (not as much as Richie) if he's on the bench but looking at his recent form I could totally understand it.

Not surprised but still sad - I SOOO wanted to see Richie play both Roddick and Blake in a DC match where he really does get fired up. Probably the best decision - with Richie less than 100% physically his confidence would have been even lower than before DC and we know what happens then. This wasn't easy for Forget but I think he definitely made the right decision. Under the circumstances I'm not sure I would even put RIchie in on the 3rd day if it is needed and he is feeling better.

Hope his knee, blister and brain recover in time for the clay. Since he will only have a few days to train on clay by the time he gets back to France I don't expect much in Monte Carlo either but hopefully things will get brighter after that...

ALLEZ Team France. Now that RIchie isn't playing I am a bit more torn about cheeering against my home team but I still like the rest of the Frenchies better than Team USA.

He didn't used to get blisters like this - did he?

I won't be surprised if a new blister pops up right before Wimbledon. It seems to come up right before "anxiety" provoking events (ie. French open, Montreal MS where he had done so well the year before and DC)and big expectations are riding on him for this Wimbledon.

I'm trying not to look at the US-France part of the DC scoreboard so I can watch the replay on the Tennis Channel this evening when I get home from work without already knowing what happened but I already know the first set of Roddick-Llodra. Richie in person :hearts: is so better than on TV. :inlove: :inlove: He's got that long hair again. but he still looks :lick: I noticed that he likes to wear grey boxer-briefs... he looks nice in them :rolls:

I also noticed how bored he seemed throughout the whole thing. I have never seen a more emotionless person before in my life. He never clapped (maybe because of the blister), he never cheered, he never stood up to encourage his teammate. He just didn't seem to care. He left during the Roddick/Llodra match, and came back, like an hour later. He just walked around and stood in the corrider. At least, walking back to his seat on court, he signed autographs and took pictures with fans. That was nice of him. :)

He only seemed to be "into" it, when it got deep in the 5th set of Blake/Mathieu. (poor PHM, I was actually pulling for him win to so that would guarantee we had live rubbers on Sunday; after it was over, Llodra came up to him first and put his arm around him and said something to him, then Clement, then Richie did it. It was a sad moment. )

Here's hoping he plays Andy on Sunday. :D

yeah, i agree i got the vibe he wasn't much into the matches. whenever the camera switched to him, he was either biting his fingernails, or fiddling with his fingers....perhaps he's really bummed at not being able to be on court, which is a new role for him. maybe he was also trying to keep low-key, so as not to steal the spotlight from his fellow frenchmen on court.

So USA-2, France-1 and Roddick up 1st tomorrow. Who does Forget play 1st?

From all of Forget's comments I got to think that he'll put PHM in unless he's dead. Forget doesn't seem to be too high on Richie right now and I don't even want to think what getting creamed by Roddick in a deciding match of DC would do to Richie's head. But I think Roddick will blast by who ever is on the other side of the net tomorrow. Forget could play Richie for the most likely dead 5th match but wouldn't that be agony if Roddick looses and it's Blake and Richie to decide it in the 5th??
Good Luck whoever plays!!

OH MY GOD!! I got Richie's autograph!!! :woohoo:  :woohoo: And I got his picture up close. You guys have no idea... he's so good looking... quite possibly the most attractive man I've ever seen in person. He used MY pen and made eye contact with me.... well, I could have just died when he looked me in the eyes. I think it might have been because I'm American, and I had a "J'adore Clement/Llodra" poster. You might have seen me. I had on a red shirt and I was next to all the Frenchies :) They adopted me like I was one of their own. :D

Oh yeah, after the doubles match, which was so good, I ran to the court with my Clement/Llodra poster and tried to get autographs. They didn't sign any, but Llodra read my poster and blew me a kiss. :D

Q: We saw part of your conversation with Richard in the corridor. It looked like you were pleading with him.
CAPTAIN FORGET: What is "pleading"?

Q. Urging, asking.
CAPTAIN FORGET: Let me tell you one thing, I feel it should be an honor to play for your country. I feel it's a privilege when someone asks you and you want to play. And if you don't because you can't -- I didn't pick Richard to play on Friday because I think, you know, he felt like he couldn't play at a decent level. The question is now how he really feels.
I'm not begging him. If he doesn't want to play, he won't go out. I'm not going to tell him, You have to go out now, because I know he probably will just get mad at me or he will go out and say, Well, I told him I didn't want to play and I lost, so he knew about it.
I don't want that attitude. I expect the opposite. That's one of the things we've talked about. You know, we'll talk some more tonight.

Q. Does an event like this affect his status going forward on the team? Are you going to choose him again if he's going to come here with that kind of attitude?
CAPTAIN FORGET: It's not that he didn't want to play because he was afraid or anything. You know, he just had a blister on his hand. He didn't get as much practice as the other guys. You know, he felt like physically he had a bit of a sore knee a few days before coming here. You know, he still felt it. I like to announce the players prior to the Friday, like on the Wednesday, you know, who's playing. And he really felt then not confident at all.
As I said, I said, If you don't feel confident, if you don't feel like you can go out and perform, I'd rather put someone else. And Paul-Henri proved yesterday that he almost won. He didn't. But I'm proud of the way he handled the situation.
And that's what I expect from Richard if he goes out on the court, to have that same attitude, that same ability to play for three, four hours, because Paul-Henri and James played for four hours yesterday."

Get your shit together Richie!! I Luv ya Richie, but either you are really physically hurting and can't play or just acting like a BIG BABY afraid to face a tough opponent in an extreme pressure situation. While it might not seem like it him, all anyone asks is for him to fight his hardest and if that isn't enough to win then so be it, at least he can walk away proud. And no one expects anyone on the French Team to beat Roddick at home on a lightening fast court, so why not?

Forget is trying to be diplomatic but he just can't hide his frustration with Richie. Nor can I, obviously. O.K. I'm finished with my late night/after partying (with perhaps too much to drink) rant.

The end of the interview is with Llodra and Clement and it's pretty funny:

Llodra is a trip...

Allez Frenchies and best of luck to whoever plays tomorrow. (and I am SOOO hoping Richard makes me eat my words in this post tomorrow).

PHM to play against Roddick - best choice.

After all my disappointment in Richard not playing and my rant earlier I can see Richard's side -- perhaps Richard is being mature, realistic and honest - at this time, on these courts he is not the best choice for France. He has always been a classy guy and strong supporter of DC and maybe he is actually courageous enough to say "i'm not good enough right now"(although he seems to say that quite often). If so why the hell is he being such an ass about supporting his teammates on the bench?
And dear old Justin Gimelstab just ranted about Gasquet's lack of heart in "refusing to play" in the opening of the TV coverage. He said he heard Forget PLEDING with Richard to play but Richard pulled a "no mas". Since when does Justin understand French?

EDIT - And the jokes about Richie continue among the US TV commentators - I'm getting PISSED! Shut up unless you know the whole story.

Good Luck PHM!!!

Time to forget about this whole DC episode and look forward to the clay season. Hoping for a reaction from him and he normally plays well in Monte Carlo.

This whole DC drama is awful, Richard has come out of it really badly. They even had an article about it in the Metro today including one of the pictures of Richard on his phone rather than watching. :o

I don't know if it's quite time to make a new thread but the DC draw for 2009 is out and France are away to the Czech Republic. :)

Matches will be in early March 2009, there is a lot of tennis to talk about before that. ;)
