Funny Saturday facts:

Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo was riding a girl today :rolls: Well, not per-say :p A girl was riding one of those 2-wheeled thingies, like a huge tricycle, I've no idea what it's called, and Ruben thought it would be fun to hop on behind her and hold her like he was teaching her how to use it ;)

Also, Ryderstedt talks a loooooot during his matches. A lot, a lot! Too bad it's in Swedish

Nothing out of the ordinary happened today. Matches were pretty low profile, and so were the practice sessions. Highlight probably was Gulbis practicing on the semicentral. He wasn't too happy about his serve, and with good reason. That seemed to be the major issue with players in practice today. Vassallo Arguello was also having a hard time with his. Serra appears to have a bit of an ankle problem, but he seems comfortable on court. Speaking of which, he and his girlfriend were admiring his picture on the winners hall of fame thingie, near the entrance. It was sweet and funny at the same time  What surprised me today was a guy in the doubles draw, Jean-Julien Rojer. He was practicing with Martin V.A. and he was hitting it hard. Really powerful shots and very well aimed :worship: I'm looking forward to his doubles match to see what he and Brunstrom can do together :yeah:

I'll post pics when the tournie is over :D

What a lovely day today. :inlove: Except my only fave from the qualies lost, and badly. :o Ervin Eleskovic needs to start playing some tennis if he wants points. :o

I finally saw Gulbis. :bounce: But I didn't stay too long at his practice cause I didn't want to seem like a huge stalker. (but then again I did keep on staring while I was there :o :o)

Also, I've seen all the Frenchies and I must say I am starting to like Gasquet again. :D

Right before we left, Maratin Vasallo was parcticing (again!!!!!!!!) and some people in their 20s went up to him, to ask his name. Then we finally saw Gilles with cute coach :D :D :D and he was practicing with Chardy. Chardy is too thin imo.

Anyways lovely day :)

Being short makes him even cuter, no? :p What shirt did he wear today? :)

I have no idea about the shirt. My friend sqaw him and said 'he's cute who is he?' I told her who he was but didn't pay too much attention to him :o

Yep, I totally understand the thing with the local players, but all the first seeds except Gasquet playing on outside courts tomorrow (Simon, Almagro, PHM, Gulbis, Moya...), that's really a bit annoying.
Why couldn't at least a couple of Romanian players play today on Center Court (like Hanescu and Mergea-Tecau)?

Realllly short :tape:

Not sure about the win, but he'll certainly do well there! I've never seen Flo's wife, hope you or someone else will post a picture of her later.
I have some, I think.

A funny story from yesterday. Miruna told me that Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo was pushing one of those eco toilets while another player was in there :spit:

I don't really have anything from today, because we got there really late. The only match I saw was the last doubles match Gremelmayr/Moser vs. Copil/Luncanu. Gremelmayr, Moser and Copil were pretty nice to watch, good, solid groundstrokes, and some very sweeet volleys. The weakest link was Luncanu :o I felt so sorry for Copil, because at one point you could like see how annoyed and helpless he was on his face :tape: There were times when he would build up a point and send some very nice returns and Luncanu would just come and eff it all up :tape: And the German team kept hitting the ball towards him, cause, well, duh!!! A lot of volleys hit the net and wide groundstrokes :awww: Copil made some errors as well, but Luncanu was just a disaster :help: There was this one point when Gremelmayr, I think, hit a dropshot, and it was so obvoius, but Luncanu was just soooo slow. Thankfully the ball was out, but had it been in, he would never've reached it and Copil just waved his arms in the air and went "Coooome ooon, man!!!!". And the last point was like a perfect picture of how most of the match went down (at least the 2nd set): Copil hit 3 back to back good volleys and then Luncanu had to return the ball and he volleyed into the net :o

Tomorrow the schedule is reaaally tight so I'm gonna try and see as many matches as I can and report back :)

At this point it looks a lot like Ernest is nowhere near Del Potro or Cilic. Even Nishikori showed more tenacity of late than Gulbis. Hope things improve for him!

I think he is not so far from Del Potro or Cilicin, but he is a level below of course
he need to win matches like this  to show difference

Gulbis was disinterested at this match. A lot of unforced errors, I never seen in last 2-3 months so bad.

Anyway, I was at press conference after his match, he said it was very difficult to accomodate with clay, he had only 3 trainings after hard period. Also said that was a good training for Davis Cup from next week.

Excellent match at Almagro-Devvarman, i think match of the day, Almagro a lot of crisis, very nervous, he yell at fans, ok, they were guilty for that and also a "puta madre" at a part of supporters. Also spoke loudly with referee (Cedric) i quote: "I didn`t saw that nowhere" He refer at a part of supporters and a lot of their phones. He was right, i didn`t saw either something like that.

I think i made some errors or big errors with my very good english :D Sorry for that.

One friend of mine ask him about that (yes, was my idea :D).

He denied from beginning, he was so sure that was only third time when he lost. Very probably he forgot about 2004 match from that challenger. Also said that at Madrid was back from injury, some other stuff, and at final he answer at question, if he has a complex about Gabshvili. He said: Isn`t any problem, just happened, again he said about only 3 days on clay and i think that was all.

Merci

Realllly short :tape:

:wavey:
he WAS!!! he really acted like a crazy bastard this week :l ol: and he lost to Crivoi :mad : :ras :

Boring matches today, only Starace-Serra maybe a good match. I don`t saw Mathieu but i don`t think that was so good.
Moya, hm...not really good, i could really say poor. Simon is the strongest, for sure, he is big favorite to win tournament.
Ah...and i saw first doubles match from this year, Andujar/Navarro vs Kas/Wassen. Easy match for spanish and some kind of boring, only in final game was some big applause and not for a nice point, only a funny one. And some cute girls who encouraged Pablo or Pablito Andujar

Is this thread still suffering from the after-effects of Gulbis' early loss? Even Serra's good run can't help Sandra to get over it?

But you seem to say it's not just this thread which is less enthusiastic than the other years, Bourne, people in general don't find the tournament so exciting this year?

Truc, the thing is, after the tournament we are all very tired :p I just come home and go to bed :p The tournament is ok, better than last year, it's just that all of our faves keep losing :awww: But my no 1 is still in it, so I am still in good spirits  Tonight I thought I should post a recap of the last 2 days, so here I am :D

Ok, sooo, Tuesday. All of the first matches were very interesting, but we chose to watch Gulbis vs Gaba, which turned out to be a pretty good idea since Gulbis lost. Ernie just started the match with a completely wrong attitude. Even before the match he was complaining about something to the umpire. The first set was horrible. Everything from him was either going out or into the net and Gaba was very focused, had some nice, clean shots and that led to him winning the first set. Poor Ernests had this pissed wounded animal look on his face, it was heartbreaking. He kept talking to his coach, saying stuff like "It's unbelievable". The second set was better for him, though. He wasn't making as many UE, he started playing more offensive and served really well, thus leveling the score. The final set was pretty much a mix between the first two. Both players had pretty much the same level of play, and it all came down to who made more mistakes. Ernie had a chance to break Gaba in the end, but didn't, and that's where it all went to hell. Gaba then broke him and served for the match. Despite his pissy mood on court, Ernie was kind enough to sign and take pics with the fans after the match. But his whole attitude was so weird, during the match I mean. He was already a little off when the match started. At some point his coach was like "Let's go!!!" and Ernie says "Where?" And after the match we found out that Ernie got food poisoning after eating a local specialty :tape: He is so never coming back :help: The funny moment of the match was when Gaba told the umpire that a ball was losing air and the umpire was like "Give it to me". Gaba threw it towards him with his racquet, but it flew over the umpire and into the next court where another match was in progress. The player there gave the ball back, and the umpire told Gaba to throw it again, and the same thing happened :rolls: And near the end of the match, after some games that were very very close, Gaba won his service game to 0 and shouted "I can't believe I won my serve *woot*".

Next match was Chucho vs Junqueira. Now that was a great match!! Clay-courter vs clay-courter on a clay court  Long rallies, powerful shots, superb winners :worship: It was amazing to see Junqueira hit the ball so hard and so precise. And that man can run. He was returning everything Chucho was throwing at him. I was impressed and kind of scared  Luckily, Chucho won in 2, but that was one great match. What was completely funny is the fact that, when he was running, Junqueria was bending his knees a lot, and because of his height his butt was like 1 inch above the ground  Chucho's girlfriend was there supporting him, which was totally sweet. You could see that she really cared and that she was interested in the match. Not many wags are like that and they look so cute together :D

After Chucho won I went a little bit on Center Court to watch Florin Mergea twist his ankle :scared: I really hope his ok, because we need our doubles team for the DC tie...although....they weren't too good that day :tape: They were losing to Starace/Granollers 1-6 2-4....

After that Hanescu and Vassallo Arguello came on. I was alone against a crowd of Romanians :tape: Which is why I kept to myself and didn't cheer at all  I hate watching a match and have to suppress my feelings and reactions which is why when I saw that Martin was a break up in the first I left, confident that he would win. Funny thing is, he lost that set, but still won  From what I saw Martin was playing a decent match, and Hanescu was a little crappy, hitting into the net a lot.

Last match of the day for me was Chucho/Prieto vs. Hernandez/Montanes. The Argentinian duo was very relaxed, not trying harder than necessary  I left after the first set.

Today :D Today started out just as bad as yesterday, with one of our favorites losing :awww: And no, he didn't get food poisoning...he was just....himself ;) Yes, you guessed it, I'm talking about Mathieu :awww: The first set was ok-ish. Both players were playing sort of well, but Paulo was making more errors and Navarro was more offensive. His serve was also working pretty damn well, but that's just because by the time he would stop bouncing his ball, flipping his racquet and actually serve, Mathieu was already bored and had moved to the other side of the court ;) So the first set went to Mister Navarro. Needless to say Paulo was pissed ;) The start of the second set wasn't bringing any changes. Navaroo broke Paulo, which got him even more pissed. During the change over he got up to get a bottle of water from the freezer and slammed the door so hard everyone in the stands twitched :tape: I guess that help him get rid of some of his anger and frustration, because he immediately broke back and eventually broke Navarro again and won the second set. At this point Paulo was playing really well. He was hitting winners on his FH and on his BH and he was coming to the net and being aggressive. And he was like that until the 8th game of the set....when it all went to hell for no reason, yaaay :D And Paulo lost...in the first round....to Navarro :bigcry: What I thought was really nice is the fact that his doubles partner, Devilder, was there with his coach supporting Paulo during the whole match. Serra stopped by for a little bit and Gasquet was there for a while, as well. And he still lost :sobbing:

Anyway.....After that I saw a bit of Moya vs Andujar. Another typical clay court match. Long rallies, powerful FH, really nice :yeah: And for the period I was there, I actually saw more winners than UE's

I left that match because on Court 2 a doubles match was starting: Chardy/Gabashvili vs Granollers/Starace. I really wanted to see this match because it was the last chance to see either Chardy or Starace play, since they're both out of singles. Sadly, today just wasn't Potito's day :tape: He had already lost his singles match against Serra. The match was so and so. Nothing too spectacular. Nothing too funny. Just a regular doubles match. Nice plays from both teams. Starace had some very nice shots from the baseline, and Chardy was pretty handy around the net. Granollers had a good service game and Gabashvili....well I'm still mad at him for beating Ernie :p Unfortunately, in the Super TB Potito and Marcel totally lost it :awww: GSM Chardy/Gabashvili.

Last match of the day for me was another doubles match: Mathieu/Devilder vs Gremelmayr/Moser. Thankfully his loss in singles didn't completely break him and Paulo was playing rather well. It was an entertaining match. You could just see that all 4 players were just enjoying themselves out there, not taking the match THAT seriously. But we got to see some pretty nice rallies and some awesome duels with all 4 players at the net :rocker2: Paulo and Nicolas won the match in 2 :D The funniest thing of the whole day was after the match. All the kids were at Paulo and Nicolas's bench and they were throwing everything they had at them  Towels, wristbands, etc. And, like 3 kids were at Gremelmayr and Moser's bench, wanting the same thing. Dora was just behind those kids waiting for them to make room for us to leave....and either Gremelmayr or Moser threw their towel at the kids that were standing right in front of their bench, but wasn't really looking at them, so it landed on Dora :rolls: We were laughing so hard we had tears in our eyes. Now Dora now has a nice, sweety towel that belonged to either Gremelmayr or Moser :spit:

I was at my grandma's yesterday so that's why I didn't write a thing. All my other faves here are guys that come every year and who'll probably come back in 2 years if the calendar changes, but I know I'll never see Ernests again so I was hoping I'd see at least 4 matches of his. :awww:

The only one who makes me feel better is Chardy. :bounce: I know he's only in at doubles but he's so nice to watch him play. :hearts: Allez Jeremy! :rocker2: Too bad he meets team Poska next  I think he thinks I am his stalker or something because we meet everywhere!!!!!! :o Mais c'est pas ma faute. Ok, soooo Thursday at the Open :D First match of the day and the best, imo, was an Argentinian affair: Chucho Acasuso vs Martin Vassallo. Chucho was in 2 almost identical sets  He started the match a little unsure, he was making a bit of UE and Martin was there to take advantage of every little mistake from Chucho's side. This led to an early break, and before I knew it Martin was leading 3-0 :scared: Thankfully Chucho decided to wake up, at last, and he managed to break back. He started being a lot more secure on his BH and had some really nice winners on his FH. Martin was still playing it tough, he was really good from the baseline, had some solid shots and even came to the net a few times. But by the end of the first set, Chucho started anticipating Martin's moves and managed to break and hold. First set -> 6-4. The second set was like a deja-vu. Chucho was making mistakes again, and Martin looked a little stronger than in the end of the first set. Again, he took an early break, and again Chucho managed to get it together and re-break and then break Martin to serve for the match at 5-4. This is when they went WTA on us and started exchanging breaks :p But there was no way in hell Chucho was gonna play a tiebreak, so he put his foot down and held his serve at 6-5 in the 2nd. GSM Acasuso 6-4 7-5. This was another good match from Chucho, though he had a rocky start and lost his focus a couple of times in the 2nd set. Martin really impressed me, because I remember the way he played last year, and he has improved....but with the amount of practice sessions he's had since he came here, I am not surprised ;) What was different from the Chucho vs. Junqueira match was that besides the long rallies and powerful shots, typical for a clay court match, they came up to the net a couple of times, which was a nice change of pace :D So, that was indeed, one of the nicer matches we've had this tournament :D

After this match we went to a practice court to relax for a bit and we walked in on a very funny practice. Andrei Pavel was practicing with part of the Romanian Davis Cup team (Luncanu, Copil and Tecau, plus the co-captain Adrian Marcu). Andrei was being his usual funny self :D He was singing "Guajira Guantanamera" and using his racquet as a guitar  And then whenever he'd be, like, just walking around the court he'd sing "Say my name, say my name" :rolls: That guy is hilarious. They played a mini doubles match. Pavel/Luncanu vs Copil/Tecau. Copil/Tecau kind of owned Pavel/Luncanu. And Andrei would get so pissed, but as a joke :p He called them wankers and at one point flipped off Tecau  He was upset because after every lost set, he'd have to do push-ups :awww: What I really liked was the fact that jokes aside, he would be very fatherly/coach-ish to the younger guys, telling them to run more and stuff like that. I totally see him as a future DC captain :D

Last match of the day for us was Gasquet vs Crivoi...not much to tell there except for the fact that Richard's BH is LOVE!!!! It is awesome, and today it was working 110% :worship: Crivoi didn't stand a chance. Richard's BH passing shots would just leave Crivoi standing in the middle of the court with a helpless look on his face. It was kind of sad, really, but I'm happy Richard won :D I do have to give kudos to Crivoi for breaking Richard in the first set  Gasquet really played an awesome match, didn't leave Crivoi any chances at all.

Singles QF and doubles SF tomorrow :rocker2:

Oh man, today I laughed so much. I've never laughed this hard in my life. Today was the funniest day in Open history :haha: And I think we made Bourne never want to sit with us during matches, ever again! At least not during doubles matches.

First match was Gilles Simon vs Florent Serra. I have only one thing to say about this match: LONG LIVE THE WTA!!!! The first set was pretty much break after break. Out of 8 games 6 were breaks :retard: Flo pretty much lost his cool along with his serve. He got so pissed because the umpire called a nets and he didn't agree. So what did he do? Well, he went over to the net and hit the thing that beeps if it's nets, with his racquet and it fell off ^^ The second set was more ATP, thankfully :D We got to see some nice points, and Gilles's BH was on fire :rocker2: Gilles came, Gilles saw, Gilles won 6-2 6-3

Second match was the ending of Moya's match. We were pretty surprised to see that GGL had won the first set, but I guess It was a little early for Moya. But he managed to wake up and win the match. The bits we saw were pretty nice. Again, your classic clay match. Both players had very strong forehands, but in the end Carlos was too strong, too confident for Guillermo.

3rd match of the day was Chuuuucho vs Navarro. I'm happy to report that Chucho didn't struggle too much. It was definitely easier than the match against Martin, cause he didn't get broken this time, at all  But damn, that Navarro can serve. Unfortunately for him (and thankfully) his little serve and volley trick on clay didn't work against Chucho. Also, Chucho's BH has improved since his first match *woot* He's more confident now and it's working really good. He still made some stupid mistakes, but, hey, he's Chucho ;)

Last singles match of the day was Richard Gasquet vs Teimuraz Gabashvili. During the first set they went head to head and into a TB. I couldn't really tell you how the TB went because it started raining and play was suspended. We left the court to get cover, and the rain finished right away but we had to wait for the TB to finish to get back on court because the gates were closed during play. Anyways, we were a little shocked to see that Gaba had won the TB, but then again Gasquet is French (no offense). Thankfully, after that little scare, Richard (with a little help from the public, including us) showed Gabashvili that he was meaning business :armed: He totally charmed everyone with his awesome BH, and I guess Gabashvili was pretty mesmerized himself because he wasn't really there during the 2nd and 3rd set. 2 breadsticks for the hungry Russian. I guess he hadn't recovered from the players party :p

And now for the fun part of the evening. Man, I've never laughed like this. We always like to have fun during doubles matches. Especially when there aren't too many people left in the stand and it's night and cold, and we're trying to keep each other warm. So we decided to have some fun and cheer very loud for our favorites.

First SF was Chucho/Prieto vs Paulo/Devilder. Bourne and I were cheering for Chucho/Prieto and the rest of the girls were cheering for Paulo/Devilder. You can imagine how loud 5 girls can get  Considering how many people were left in the stands, and how close our box was to the court, we got our selves noticed. Chucho/Prieto weren't really playing that well. A lot of UE from their part and very consistent play from the French duo. They seem to be very good together. I suppose Chucho was a little tired, as well, from his singles match earlier :awww: Paulo and Nico won the match 6-4 6-1. And just as they were walking off court, Paulo turned around at us, SMILED, yes, I said smiled (and not one of those fake smiles, it was an honest, happy smile, with his mouth wide opened and cheery eyes) and WAVED at us. We made Paulo smile and wave :speakles: I do believe hell froze over tonight :D

Next match was gonna be even funnier. Chardy/Gabashvili vs Fyrstenberg/Matkowski. The reason this was gonna be a funny match is because one of Sandra's friends, kept yelling "Allez Jeremy" whenever he'd walk by us in the Gasquet match....This happened like twice or three times, and each time he'd look at Sandee and smile, thinking she was the one yelling it :rolls: And we were all there cracking up, so we made an impression. Now, as soon as they walked on court for the doubles match, Jeremy just looked at our box, saw us and started smiling :o When they were at the net for the coin toos, he even waved. We literally had tears in our eyes from the laughter. Then when the umpire was introducing the players, we obviously cheered very loud when hearing his name. And when the umpire was introduced by the announcer we cheered very loudly for him too. The poor guy started smiling, slightly embarrassed. We made an umpire blush, yay :D So now the umpire kept looking at us and smiling....as well as Chardy...and Gabashvili, cause well, we were kind of only cheering on Chardy. I asked Sandee to say a Davai once, to make him fell better  The whole match felt like a huge joke . Everyone was laughing. In between points, during the changeovers, it was hilarious  Obviously Team Polska, as we refer to them, won without any problems at all. As Chardy was walking off court he looked at us and smiled/laughed  And we kind of crossed paths on our way out. The umpire looked at us and wished us good night, out of nowhere. And we said good bye to Jeremy :rolls: We left the Arenas just crying because we were laughing so hard. It was brilliant!!!

Thanks a lot for the reports. Flo won ONE point on serve during the whole first set, Aleka! Even for the girls that would be a ridiculous stat.
Gilles looked so horribly shaky on serve yesterday just by following the SB, I don't get why everybody seems already so sure he will make it to the final.

Who was the umpire in the last doubles match?
I always find Jérémy's smile hilarious, during Roland-Garros especially, you would have thought he had just smoked some weed before giving an interview, he continously had a beatific smile and was looking completely stoned. So I can totally imagine the scene.

Well, he wins his matches rather easily (minus the WTA first set vs Serra, but even that ended well enough for Gilles -> 6-2). And he has shown class in all of his matches. Esp with his BH. Everyone was talking about what a good BH he has. And his FH ain't that far behind either :p

I don't remember his name...I know he's German :p And I've seen him on TV a couple of times.

:spit: Yeah, he kinda looked stoned with that huge grin on his face all the time, but it was our fault :tape:

I know the umpire's name was Jurgen. But yesterday we interacted with all the umpires, it's always nice to see their reactions when we cheer for them. Umpires, you rock!! :rocker2:

Yessss, I knew his smile reminded me of something. It was the weed smile. Do you know if he smokes? (normal things I mean)

I don't think so, but I don't know him well. He says he's strict about that, not much partying, etc.
I don't think the young Frenchies smoke, some of the older generation definitely do or used to (Seb & Arnaud even say it very openly in their "Passing potes" book), but I never see this kind of stories about the younger ones.
Now, there were pics of Tati smoking a few months ago, so I don't know...

Today was the singles SF and doubles F day. We were really excited about the matches because it’s been years since we’ve had such awesome singles SF :rocker2: All 4 players were seeded :yeah:

First up were Moya and Gasquet. Carlos was so strong, focused and confident from the very beginning of the match. He was playing great and Richard was being….well, Richard :awww: He played poorly and didn’t really give us any hopes of him turning the match around. His pride would show it’s shy head once in a while when he’d wow the crowd with one of his exquisite BH, but that was about it from Richard. His serve wasn’t going too well, he doublefaulted a couple of times. He made a lot of UEs and as I said before Moya was ready for him. His FH was very strong , as well as his serve. He had some very beautiful shots from the baseline and he managed to finish Richard off pretty fast. GSM Moya 6-2 6-4.

As for the second semifinal, Chucho Acasuso vs. Gilles Simon….:bigcry: This match was loooong…and painful. Well, for some of us :p First set started out very well for Chucho. Gilles didn’t seem focused enough. He was making a lot of UEs, he didn’t look very comfortable and his serve wasn’t helping him either. On the other side of the court, Chucho was playing rather well. His BH was behind him all the way :rocker2: Despite having trouble with his first serve going in, he managed to only lose his serve once  Which was great considering he broke Gilles twice. With a solid game from the baseline and a few, itsy bitsy trips to the net he managed to take the first set 6-4. The second set was a little WTA-ish (I’m starting to think it’s Gilles :p), with 4 breaks between the 2 of them, 2 each. Both were still struggling with their serve, Chucho more than Gilles…that first serve just wouldn’t go in. What was different from the 1st set was that Gilles started winning more points on his first serve, while Chucho won less. This set went to a TB :scared: Gilles owned that TB. Chucho didn’t seem on court anymore. It was 5-0 at one point, for Gilles. Chucho managed to get it together for a bit, but he was still a little shaky and lost the TB 7-4. This is when we found out why Chucho was serving poorly. In the pause between the 2nd and 3rd set Chucho received treatment on his shoulder. The 3rd was painful to watch. Chucho was obviously tired (I hate the Open organizers for yesterday’s schedule…they shouldn’t have made Chucho play so late :sobbing: ) and Gilles’s confidence had grown visibly. His BH was back, and he had some amazing winners. Chucho was making a lot of mistakes, and he virtually didn’t exist on Gilles serve. He had only one breakpoint that whole set, and didn’t manage to take it. In the end Chucho was worn out and Gilles was so pumped, the win couldn’t slip away. GSM Gilles Simon 4-6 7-6 6-4. *le sigh*

Next up we had an exhibition match. Leconte/Bahrami vs Pavel/Nastase. Unfortunately it started raining and they only played like 9 games, but we got to have some good laughs. The funniest thing that happened was when the wind started blowing really hard and Pavel’s money flew out of his termobag or something and got scattered all over the court. Leconte ran over there and got some of it and gave to the umpire, Romano Grilotti  And Pavel gave some to Bahrami. Just so no one would be favored ;) Hopefully tomorrow the weather will be on our side and we’ll get to see them play a full exo.

When the rain started we left, but Sandra stayed behind with 2 of her friends. We went to a pub near by to grab a bite. At one point Sandee called us and told us that the doubles final was gonna be played as scheduled. So after we ate we decided to go back :bounce: We only missed the first set and a few games from the 2nd, but we were pleased to see that Mathieu/Devilder were leading Fyrstenberg/Matkowski :woohoo: They had won the first set 7-6 (7-4). Second set started out well for the Polish duo. They were leading 2-0, but Paulo/Nico managed to break back and level the score. They got broken again, but rebroke right after :woohoo: Second set was gonna see a TB as well :D This was a wee bit longer than the first. And the Frenchies even had match points. We were freazing our asses off, allez-ing like mental people and they still managed to choke away the second set 9-11. And along came the Super TB….which was SUPER indeed. Sandra was dawaj-ing, we were allez-ing, and all of the players were chocking  It was mini-break after mini-break and match-point after match-point for both teams. We were going crazy and so were the officials, who at point were thinking about stopping the match and continuing it tomorrow. Whenever a team would get a match-point one of the players would eff up the next point and lose the mini-break. It was like watching the same 2 points played again and again. And it was soooo cold . We had to shout louder and clap harder to keep warm (I’m pretty sure we’ll make the paper tomorrow :tape: ). There were so many times when we were sure Paulo and Nico would lose, but one of them would come up with a great shot or the Polish would screw it up on their own. For every stupid mistake Paulo made, he had an amazing follow-up winner -> passing-shot right in the middle of the court, between the Mariusz and Marcin. Nico also showed some class during key moments of the match. When at 21-20 they finally managed to win the point and the STB and the match we just couldn’t believe it!! We got up and started clapping. Nico pulled his shirt up and sort of chest-bumped/hugged Paulo. They were both so happy, it was awesome :D After the match Paulo was getting bombed with sms’s and he was reading them aloud to Nico and laughing. He was genuinely happy. Unfortunately I don’t know any French so I couldn’t tell you what those texts said, but I’m pretty sure they were being congratulated by family and friends. The funniest thing was when a ball kid asked Nico for his shirt and he was like “I’m sorry, but this is my last one :o”

Ah, last day of this year's Open :sobbing: I must say that it was the best edition that I've attended so far :worship: Quality SFs and to have a former RG and world no 1 in our Final vs. last year's winner and a top 20 player...awesome :bounce: At least by our standards :o

But before the final we had part II of our lovely exhibition match Pvel/Nastase vs. Leconte/Bahrami. The guys stepped up to the plate once more and just went crazy on court....literally ;) Leconte is seriously deranged, I'm telling you  The guy belly danced, shouted at everyone to shut up, took off Grilotti's shoe and threw it into the stands (he was umpiring) and then tried to push over his chair. Poor Grilotti was hanging on to that thing like a desperate man. And then Leconte took one of those big champagne bottles and got inside the freezer with it :haha: It was brilliant. Hope we'll have him again next year :rocker2: Pavel and Nastase kept talking to each other in Romanian calling him a clown and making fun of him  And Bahrami was, well, Bahrami. That guy was made for exo's like these :worship:

Up next was zeeee finaaaaal :rocker2: Charlie Moya vs. Gilles Simon! I must say that the crowd was leaning towards MOya, because he's an old friend of ours, but Gilles had his faithful cheerleaders who made sure he got all of the support he needed :rocker2:

Despite looking a little worn out in the beginning of the match, Gilles knew how to keep his cool (well...sort of, cause he was a little loud at times :p ) and find his form in the middle of the first set. And I must say that Moya wasn't as strong as in his other matches this week. Which is kinda weird cause after the SFs yesterday I would have expected Gilles to be the one in distress. On the other hand, except for his SF match vs Chucho, Gilles won all of his other matches rather easily. Aaaanyway, Moya wasn't showing his confidence from earlier this week. He was missing some shots that he didn't miss before, and after Gilles broke he tried to make the points shorter and surprise him with border-line shots. Unfortunately for him those shots would either go out or into the net. Gilles wasn't that great either, he had some UEs of his own, but he knew how to take advantage of Moya's weaknesses and when he had his chances, he took them. And after breaking Moya, he would manage to keep his focus and play very well on his own serve. At least in the 2nd set :p To be honest, both sets were pretty much the same, only the 2nd one was easier for Gilles. Moya looked tired and Gilles was just too determined and focused.

GSM Gilles Simon 6-3 6-4, thus making history at the Bucharest Open, being the first player ever to win 2 titles here, and back-to-back ones. Another win and he can take home the nice, glass vase/fruit-bowl

Both players were really happy at the end, which was nice to see :D Tiriac told Moya that he has pelotas :rolls: Moya called Tiriac "Big Boss Ion" and Gilles made us laugh during his speech, when he thanked the kidsballs :haha: :worship:

*le sigh* See you next year!!! :wavey:

Just in case you know a Romanian tennis forum/website with videos.

his GF is kinda nice, she spoke to me :o
monday morning, i was waiting for the girls to come and i went to the training courts where there were Gulbis vs Zhenya and Richie vs ...someone and i was holding a magasine from RG in my hands. At a certain point i saw a nice blondie coming to peak an eye on the court and she seemed kinda embarased to go to the court. she saw me and she came to ask if she can take a look on my magasine then she asked me which player i prefer and all. i saw she had the "player's team" badge and asked who did she came with and she said "Korolev" and smiled. She asked me at which matches i'm gonna go, she might join, this stuff. but she seemed really nice and she looks pretty good :)
I waved at him joking not thinking he'd even turn and then I see him stop and giving us a biiiiiiiiiig wave and smile we were all like  Is that Paulo? :lol:Man, i think he likes the new thing he learned (which is smiling) because he actually SMILED on SAT too  :spit:

Well, he wins his matches rather easily (minus the WTA first set vs Serra, but even that ended well enough for Gilles -> 6-2). And he has shown class in all of his matches. Esp with his BH. Everyone was talking about what a good BH he has. And his FH ain't that far behind either :p

I don't remember his name...I know he's German :p And I've seen him on TV a couple of times.

:spit: Yeah, he kinda looked stoned with that huge grin on his face all the time, but it was our fault :tape:
Juergen something...

Potito is a hard smoker :o
Nico pulled his shirt up and sort of chest-bumped/hugged Paulo. They were both so happy, it was awesome :D After the match Paulo was getting bombed with sms’s and he was reading them aloud to Nico and laughing. He was genuinely happy. Unfortunately I don’t know any French so I couldn’t tell you what those texts said, but I’m pretty sure they were being congratulated by family and friends. The funniest thing was when a ball kid asked Nico for his shirt and he was like “I’m sorry, but this is my last one :o”naked chest bump :p

Paulo literally said his phone turned red during the match(meaning he's got like a trilion of messges/phone calls) and showed the phone to Nico who smiled and Paulo just went away eventho everybody wanted a pic to him and Nico kinda screamed at him to come back...anyway Paulo wasn't really in the mood for pics, he took only like 5 or 6 so i didn't get to have a decent pic with him :bigcry: ( i have 3, one next to the garbage bin, one next to the toilet and one who's blurry :ras: and we both look like hell in all of them)

That guy was made for exo's like these : worship:

Up next was zeeee finaaaaal :rocker2 : Charlie Moya vs.

:wavey:

kidsballs rock :rocker2: i have to say Moya has a good english and Gilles...well..the french accent is :inlove: :p

I also want to thank you girls for great reports from BCR
And, I am happy to know you all had so much fun at the tourney :) Though, on the other hand, I never attended a tournament which was bad, though, of course the results could have been worse...

It was so much fun reading them and I am already looking for next years edition with your great reports :yeah:

Oh, it wasn't a critic anyway, Aleka. It's completely fine when people don't appreciate his way to play tennis - I know it's a bit special!

Do you know where I might find a video with some highlights of the final (or of the tournament), btw? I've found plenty of pics, but no video.
Just in case you know a Romanian tennis forum/website with videos.
I know, dude, don't worry  I actually do like the way Gilles plays :D His BH is looooove, esp when he does the Rios jump thing :worship: And I have no idea where a guy his size gets that kind of power.

I've no idea, I'm sorry :tape:
Thanks for the reports :)

I haven't commented at all until now but it's good to see you had so much fun :D and I'm glad the exhibition got to be played.. I wish I could have seen Andrei

and I think it's safe to say that it's been MY favourite Bucharest Open too - I have NO idea why :p ;)
:rolls: I've no idea what you're talking about :p
