let's go Lee!!!

BTW, awesome play by him the last few days, also in Roland Garros his form was going all the way up!
he couldn't do much the whole year, but playing good tennis the last matches and now even on grass! :clap2:

Roddick vs Hewitt
an awesome match between two of my greatest non-German favorite players!
I don't know whom to root for, but somehow I feel that my deepest heart is a bit more with Lleyton in this one as his last year was so poor and I'm very glad that he does much better again.
but anyway, hope for a good match and I'll take whoever wins :D

If Andy Roddick wins .......Sebastien Grosjean will Lose.

=========================================

We will not have same last yrs FINALISTS

Hyung-Taik Lee came into the main draw from the qualifying event.
He was a quarter finalist here two years ago and has defeated Greg Rusedski and two seeds, Robby Ginepri and Sjeng Schalken, on his way to the last four.

 I thought you were better than that kind of pettiness Katherine

Did you at least follow the match on BBC? Andy changed his game at the end of the first and Lleyton didn't. Lleyton should've won the first but he choked a bit and then Andy got confidence and played better in the second and Lleyton couldn't adjust.

jtipson
06-12-2004, 04:47 PM
It made perfect sense to me! We don't have the same phrase in English, probably would say "he got completely flattened". Boris does have a good command of English, and he's a very entertaining commentator, if nothing else. The British set of 1980-90's ex-players are generally awful commentators.

Tricky_Forehand
06-12-2004, 05:19 PM
 I thought you were better than that kind of pettiness Katherine

Tell me how it's pettiness, Deb. I like Lleyton. No, he doesn't rank among my top favorites but he's more of an all around player than Roddick will ever be. So, I'm not supposed to give my opinion of Roddick, ever. Tell me where in my post that I called him any derogatory names just because. I don't like Roddick's style ( ) and I'm not going to pretend too.

FYI, I wasn't rooting for Lleyton so that Roddick would lose if that was your train of thought. Just as, and it should be obvious, that I'll be rooting for Seb tomorrow because he's a favorite and he's another one who has the better game than Roddick. Unfortunately, Roddick can always go to that serve and not always have to play the point

Tricky_Forehand
06-12-2004, 05:22 PM
LOL! Who isn't better than Andy on the ATP?

A LOT of players are better. But I respect that you're a Roddick fan and you will think that he's better than everybody.

Neely
06-12-2004, 05:28 PM
sure, I agree with Katherine when she says that Lleyton is overall a better player than Andy and I know how it is meant.

But serve is one very important part of the game and Andy is several leagues above Lleyton in that category and sometimes it's enough to be better in just one category and that's why Andy finally won quite easily in the 2nd set without any problems. That's Andy's strenght as he can capitalize on his VERY HUGE serving ability. And I think there's nothing wrong with that as an ace or an service winner are the easiest way to score points.

Sure, if both players would be only allowed to put the balls in game with a backhand slice from the baseline then Lleyton would win because Andy cannot compete on regular basis with Lleyton and his overall game.

Tricky_Forehand
06-12-2004, 05:40 PM

You seem to understand exactly where I'm coming from. I'm surprised that Deb didn't but maybe she felt that I was insulting Roddick. Not the case.

and he must be careful that he won't be hit again tomorrow

BTW, I don't know if the phrase "hit by a train" in English makes sense, but in German we have a saying like that and maybe Boris tranlated that (too) literally ;)

That's an english phrase to me.

Hit by a train. Yup. I've heard people say that before

Maybe you should have phrased it differently then, Katherine. You might have said that Lleyton had a better ground game than Roddick because apparently that is what you meant.

Deb talks to me enough that I would've expected her to know what I meant. I'm not going to get into the cycle here where I have to measure and analyze every damn word that I type out. If you're not absolutely sure what I meant...then ask me. Either in the thread, PM, whatever.

I talk the same way here that I would if I was to speak to you face to face. And, just like if we were to have a face-to-face debate the question would be asked of me to clarify what I meant but not change how I choose to speak or use my words.

I have refrained many times in my 7 months at MTF from outwardly rooting for a favorite if he's playing against Roddick because I knew this type of crap would come up. If it wasn't going to happen today, it was going to happen tomorrow because I will not keep my enthusiam at bay for Seb just so I don't have to deal with Roddick fans.

Obviously we just misunderstood each other. I know you like Seb, and I like him too for the record, and no one said anything about you rooting for him. Let's just move on :)

I didn't get to see ANY of the matches as I was out of country, but I found out Andy won the tourney from the sports coverage on TV news. This was the match I was really looking forward too. :)
