03-22-2005, 02:52 PM
I took the liberty to read your discussion in 'Teachers and Students' and I was wondering why kids make so many spelling errors! It's the same in Holland and French. I think it's incredible to not be able to write your native language correctly. Is it because they hardly read?

*Elsie*

:wavey: Ceci!

bovenbuuf
03-22-2005, 03:29 PM
Hi is Ceci here? why don't I see a post then?

But well to your question. I think in dutch its hard to learn, and well I am certainly not good at it. Think also that at schools they take less time to learn it properly. If you can see what it means, if you put the words in the right order its just fine...

*Elsie*
03-22-2005, 03:36 PM
Teachers are less demanding then before you mean? Yeah, maybe. Ceci didn't post, but she is lurking

bovenbuuf
03-22-2005, 03:38 PM
well if she has some time ;) She is really busy lately

Yes I think thats it, Connie.. less demanding.... they are not all teachers like Tiff. And well I am a teacher but I won't help either I guess. I am really bad at it, so well if I start to help them...... think it then goes worse ;)

Yeah....someone authorized yours truly to have administrative access to our group's web pages-at work, of course, not on MTF, so don't panic. It's good, though-at least I can get the experience and put it on a resume.

Don't get me started on that topic! It's become a true nightmare to read some of the prose of our students...I can't understand anything though they write in French. And I'm more than sure that they don't understand anything either! I don't think that the lack of reading is the only responsible factor. I'm sure that there's a huge failure in our teaching system. Do you believe that some ppl, aged 12, are totally unable to read? So how could they write properly? Terrible!

*Elsie*

Oh, I see! Well, the one who authorized you must have confidence in your capabilities. Things like this always do well on a resume so I am delighted for you.

OK I am off, see ya :wavey:

Oh, yeah....many don't read. And...many don't like to. I think it's laziness and lack of proper instruction in our school systems. I agree with Choupi on this one. It's a real shame when you have 18-19 year olds who are in college and don't know how to spell. I even had one student whose paper I graded, misspell things really badly to the point of concern. He's the one whom I need to speak with the instructor about. Maybe some intervention is needed on his behalf.

bovenbuuf
03-23-2005, 11:33 AM
Well I am really thinking about it, to get also my economics degree, its probably easier to get a job then and well to get more hours( not at every school citizenship is a course where you can take an exam in.)

If I want to do it, then I have 1/2 year of courses, all about economics, and well then a short program to get my teaching degree.. also about 1/2 year I think.. So 1 year in total.

sigmagirl91
03-23-2005, 11:37 AM

I don't know if it's a good thing or not. I have a colleague who doesn't smell very well. As a matter of fact he stinks. He is not working in the same office as me but everytime he comes in we open the window. I suppose he has no shower or something like that. I learnt yesterday (it's was the day of the water) that Europeens use 300 liter of water by day and the Americans 600!

bovenbuuf
03-23-2005, 11:53 AM

Hi guys - I know I don't come here much these days but just wanted to pop in to wish you all a very good Easter Holiday wherever you are and whatever you're doing.

Hi Rosie,
Glad to see you here...well I am in bed trying to feel better from having the tonsils out...its not working though. Well my parents are having a big Easter thing like they always do...so can you imagine a group of 25 Spanish and Italian Catholics together...but the best part of that is the big eater egg hunt for all my samll cousins...I have to be out of bed for that one...

I will investigate.....

( from sjengs personal website..)

He says he still has a lot of pain in his back. He got that in his match against Marco in the DC. He wants to be more certain so he is going to see Doctor Pluim( he is from our national tennis union) He understand thats a little bit out of the blue adn that it also was a hard decision, but after everything what happend last year he doesnt want to take a risk...

Hope it helps

The work colleague answers "Yes, what's the problem" while still half asleep. The psychiatrist tells him "I have this man who came into my work and says he has an inferiority complex".

The colleague answers " you woke me up to tell me that".

The psychiatrist says "Yes, but the man who came in was an Argentine".

What is the best deal on earth? To buy an Argentine for what he is worth and then sell him from what he thinks he is worth.

Then there is the old one an Argentine is an Italian, who speaks Spanish, wants to be English and lives in a French house.

Choupi, thanks for clarifying those questions.
We were living close to the German border but not close enough to feel the need to speak German or any other close dialects. And as my mother had gone to school, at a very young age, when it was under German control..you can imagine it wasn't really a priority to speak German at home. She had very bad memories of that time, when she was totally forbidden to speak any French word at school. So I only started to learn German when I entered secondary school. Because I thought that living in an area so close to Germany, I needed to be able to speak that language. Be it only for my future job for example.

I can't either. I don't remember the last time I read "zut alors" for that matter. I almost said "merde".

You almost said "merde", well, you're very familiar with common French then... next time, think of "mince", that's less rude...if you want ruder, ask me through PMs ,OK? ;)

My college professor taught the class some colloquial French, so those aren't hard to remember.

Those are usually the easiest to remember...no matter which language you're learning!

Maybe this will help you decide. 10 reasons why French is better than Sex:

1. You're never too old or too young to learn French.
2. French-fanatics don't make people uncomfortable.
3. It's OK to speak French anytime and anywhere.
4. You can speak French with as many people and as many times a day as you like
5. You can't get arrested for speaking French with a minor.
6. Speaking French with lots of people at once is socially acceptable.
7. No risk of disease or pregnancy from speaking French.
8. You can speak French all day without getting really tired.
9. No next-day regrets about whom you spoke French with.
10. Speaking French is fun even if you have a headache.
