next Gilles Simon

i'ts time for a revenge because they met twice and Simon won the 2 encounters (Monte-Carlo 2006, AO 2006). Tomas said he doesn't like to play against Simon, his game... no rythm... like à-la-Santoro.

step by step, go Tomas, good luck in round 2 :bounce:

finally he could beat Simon! :bigclap: :bigclap: :bigclap: :bigclap: H2H 1-2

it's from ATP site:

Fourth-seeded Czech Tomas Berdych assumed the place as the highest seed remaining in the Sydney draw, booking his place in the quarterfinals with a 7-6(3), 6-2 win over Frenchman Gilles Simon.

Simon failed to serve out the first set, allowing the Berdych to stage a successful comeback. After winning the first-set tie-break, the Czech converted on both of his break point chances in the ensuing set to notch his first win in three matches against the 23-year-old Simon.

Berdych also reached the quarterfinals last year in Sydney. He awaits the winner between four-time defending champion Lleyton Hewitt and Aussie wild card Chris Guccione.

One thing that I don't get is how in the hell did he lose the tie-break. I watched the stats of the 2nd set. Before the tie-break, Tomas won about 70 points in the set while Guccione only about 62, so it was evident who played better... it looked like comfortable win for Tomas...

EDIT: 70 points in one set is too much, so it was probably 40-32 or something like that...

Does anyone have a recording of the match  (It plays in the middle of the night for me :() I can't understand how Tomas could lose. The trophy was there for him to take  Apparently, he had a match point in the 2nd set TB :banghead:

He won't get many easier chances to win an ATP title than this...

Unfortunately, and as much as I hate to admit this, he’s no closer than making a break through at a Slam. While he obviously possesses amazing talent, he must work on his serve and adding some variety to a very predictable game. Some of his winners bring you out of your seat but there needs to be more to his game other than breathtaking winners. He’s a super talent no doubt, but he needs a plan B.

Disappointing loss to a player who while in form, is extremely average.

The tv gods were nice. They replayed his match last night. He was stretching his shoulder a lot in the beginning. I'll watch the end of the match later. It just seems like Guccione stopped making so many errors towards the end of the match:shrug: And the commentary team was kind of mean to Tomas
