This is from a June 8th update on James Blake's quasi-official site

"James had to pull out of the Stella Artois tournament but is still hopeful to return for Wimbledon. We'll keep you updated."

I think Guga is questionable too, from what I've read in GM here

Gaudio out as well, according to the info on his forum.

Why? Injured?

Jim Jones

Gaudio has no chance of winning even one round. He is emotionally spent & in any case he has fared pretty poorly at Wimbledon. Let him enjoy his break he deserves it. As for Kafel. he has unofficially retired though he hasn't announced it like Muster. He probably does not like farewells. Nadal still hopes to play as does Blake. I'm surprised that no spaniards have pulled out yet. Maybe they were inspired by Ferrero's good ru last year but there is still time till Wimbledon. There may be more withdrawals.

Nadal most likely won't play.

Moya is usually the only Spaniard that doesnt play?! He is playing this year which is good....Verdasco prefers faster surfaces over the slower ones so he wont be going anywhere, Feli Lopez didn't have such a bad run last year so I don't see him going anywhere....I think most of them will play this year.

You're right: http://www.marca.com/edicion/noticia/0,2458,497485,00.html

Apparently they had a training session on Thursday and decided Nadal wouldn't play not just because of the injury, but because he hadn't played for two and half months. He'll be back in Båstad on 5th July.

No surprise here but James Blake is most likely not playing... from his quasi-official site
-----
James is off to see the doctor on Thursday. He's hoping for a clean bill of health, which would give him an outside, outside shot at playing Wimbledon. In all likelyhood, he'll be back for Newport.

But this means he'll be placed in the draw since the draw is Thursday London time...

escude has also withdrawn, so there will be the original group of qualifiers plus 2, then possibly two more if Nadal and Blak withdraw, then possibly two more if Moya and Nalbandian withdraw and they are apparently hurting at the moment.

Anyone who withdrew from the main draw before qualifying started allowed players on the alternate list to move up into the main draw. The cutoff for direct entry into the Main draw was, I believe, Marc Lopez.

Nadal HAS officially withdrawn so a lucky loser will take his place

Agassi withdrew before the draw was made or even before the seeds were announced so that's no problem.

If Blake withdraws, which I imagine he will, another lucky loser would take his place.

So Bennetau should definitely be in b/c of Nadal. Escude was not in the draw so he must've gotten out before the draw was made.

Escudé withdrew too, here's the complete list:
Gentlemen's Singles
Rafael Nadal (his doctor advised him against playing in The Championships)
Nicolas Escude (withdrawn)
Andre Agassi (hip injury)
Gustavo Kuerten (hip injury)
Mariano Zabaleta (knee injury)
Paul Henri Mathieu (consecutive wrist injury)
Jarkko Nieminen (broken wrist)
Younes El Aynaoui (withdrawn)
Gaston Gaudio (foot injury)

There are 18 qualifiers in the draw. Nadal withdrew after the draw.
So, there are at least 3 LL.

Without sounding harsh, I hope people got injured so that Starace and Pescosolido qualify as LL.

Yes it has 19 qualifiers there and only 16 qualified, with Blake withdrawing it means Starace and Stefano are in the draw I think, not sure yet though, obviously not confirmed.

Blake withdraws from Wimbledon

Friday, June 18, 2004

(06-18) 09:45 PDT WIMBLEDON, England (AP) --

James Blake pulled out of Wimbledon on Friday, joining a growing list of withdrawals from the year's third Grand Slam tournament.

Blake, who hurt his neck and spine last month, was replaced in the draw by 132nd-ranked Potito Starace of Italy, a loser in qualifying. The 40th-ranked Blake was injured when he fell and slammed into a net post while chasing a drop shot during a practice session in Rome after losing at the Italian Open.

Starace upset 10th-seeded Sebastien Grosjean at the French Open, then held match points against 2000 U.S. Open champion Marat Safin in the third round before losing in five sets. Starace, whose performance in Paris lifted him 70 spots in the ATP Tour entry rankings, will face No. 20 Tommy Robredo in the first round at the All England Club, where play starts Monday.

according to Argentinian newspapers, Nalbandian will announce today his withdrawl of Wimbledon.. Nalbandian has a couple of fibers strained.. it was probably in the line of expectation after his retirement against Massu in the exhibition.

Jiro, has paradorn ever played mixed doubles at a grand slam event? Why don't he and Tamarine team up?

jirobkk
06-21-2004, 08:28 AM
Very interesting and I would love it happen. They have been playing in Hopman Cup and they performed well as the Thai team reached the final at that year. Unfortunately they never play together after Hopman Cup.

This year Tammy said that she and Paradorn might play mixed double in Wimby but it seem like it's not happen yet.

I think Tammy's double ranking(34) is good enough to play but I'm not sure about Paradorn ranking(154).
