Advertisements in middle of page

I've noticed that there are now google ads in the middle of the page, in the middle of a thread you're reading. Obviously I'm not really happy about that.

Question: Do these ads go away with a paid Premium MTF membership?

Annoying, indeed. Should be one of those things that you can get rid off when you become a premium member.

I haven't seen those in any other forum I've visited - they're irritating and unnecessary. What will it be next? One post in every page of ads? :o

Do we really need this many ads to keep this site running?

Instead of improving this site, it continues to get worse and worse every year.

way too many ads now :help: there weren't exactly few to begin with. why doesn't the premium account get rid of them, at least?

very annoying! :fiery: I hope they get rid of this! Ads should be around, not through! :(

I'll see if I can find some answers.....

So what is the paid membership for??? (Not that I consider having one at all!!) You can't change your username anymore - you can see my opinion about it in the upgrade discussion thread - you don't have less ads, so what is it for? To take the money out of the people obviously is the only purpose of it.

I thought NoScript would only disable JavaScript scripts therefore some ads based on this. ABP is more complete, right?

I agree that the ads in the middle of pages is beyond annoying. Every day, this place becomes more of a hassel to use. I've noticed that many of the regulars here don't post as much anymore. Is that what MTF was trying to accomplish? Because it seems to be working.

The premium membership seemed to work quite well for about 3 months when it was first offered. Now it's almost like there's no difference between premium and non-premium anymore, other than having a larger avatar. Big whoop. I'd rather have zero advertisements, isn't that what the big selling point about going premium was supposed to be? What a gyp.

What she said.

Can't believe anyone bothered to pay MTF to use a message board. Some things in life are free, like bigger avatars and the ability to communicate on the net without ads in weird places.

MTF has more BS experiments than de Villiers.

Can we have a petition to get rid of them or something? I keep thinking that when I see an ad it's the last post in the thread.

Good idea! I keep on thinking it's the end of the thread too. I know it sounds petty to some people, but I paid Premium Membership, and these damned things really annoy me :fiery: Get rid of them - please

Wow, not only does the NoScript plugin get rid of the ads, but it makes MTF 1000x faster. Now I'm going to have to figure out how to enable some scripts that I want to be running.

Not everybody can install all the plug-ins or the other browsers. Some of us use the computers that aren't our property.

Rosie, as you only bought a year-long membership... Will you buy a new one?

Or have to consider that there are other persons using the computer too.

Yep. The best would be ads just for free users. I mean, I have paid for more than a status logo

Well...there's a "remove advertisements" link over on the right of the ads....maybe we should use it....

Oops....we have to register in basketballforum.com :tape:

:rolls:

Edit: I think that a petition thread by all premium members will solve this...:yeah:

Steve said about the new memberships back then that a banner- and ad-free site would not be possible for premium members. I guess this meant that we all had to endure it no matter what our status was. But this doesn't change the fact that I also agree that premium members deserve much better, not seeing these ads.

I hope there is something coming in the future soon :yeah:

I was just going to say. Why are we taken to the basketball forum when we click on "remove advertisements"? When I click on something called "remove advertisements" I'm assuming I'm removing unwanted advertisements and not being sent to a basketball forum.

I thought the same thing. Good point to make.

At what stage in their upgrading was this? Because I distinctly remember not seeing any ads for quite a while after I paid for premium membership.

When the new premium accouts were created with the new pay structure etc, they did never promise an ad-free experience. but there has to be SOME incentive for people to pay besides more PM space and bigger avs, and I don't think anyone could possibly have envisioned the level of advertising that would start appearing on the site. Surely there can be some kind of compromise like greatly reduced ads and if nothing else, no ads within threads/posts. This is ridiculous.

About half a year ago: http://www.menstennisforums.com/showpost.php?p=5402947&postcount=29

In 2007 I only remember for one or two weeks no ads during the redesign of the site. Before, late 2005 until some time in 2006 before the forum switched to Verticalscope there was indeed a long period which offered priority access and no ads for premium members. I also remember this.

It's obvious that Verticalscope is a serious company which only cares about money and if the ads make more money for them then nothing will change.

However, if less people see the ads and click on the ads then this means less money and that's an incentive to remove the ads.

Just some useful information here ;)
