OVERVIEW OF TOURNAMENT CUT-OFFS:
Giving a very, very crude estimate of what the strongest Challengers were:
#110 - 12. Sunrise [Igor Kunitsyn]
#136 - 5. Wroclaw [Tomas Zib]
#149 - 14. Napoli [Daniel Gimeno-Traver]
#160 - 43. Buenos Aires [Pere Riba]
According to Turkish Tennis Federation there will be a new challenger tournement in Izmir (Izmir Cup) to add Ted Open which will be on week of 4th August.
It will be at week of 26th of May and will be on hard court.
Dont know which club it will be on but it will be most probably at beautiful National Tennis Centre in the city which built for Universiade 2005.
But it may be at Kulturpark tennis club too where they held ITF Futures event last year at similar time to this planned event.

I'm pretty sure it will be there, I doubt there is in Izmir a better center than that
actually I doubt there are many challengers played in better centers than that

Exactly.
Seems like you saw the place,I did and it is indeed wonderful tennis center.
They can easily hold ATP or WTA main events there, they have the facililies yet they dont have $$$ and mind setting to do that it seems.
They havent run a single international event there since 2005 :o

Hey Coocoo, who do you think will be the breakthrough American challenger player in the '09 season. Or any other players you think will have success on the challengers in 09?
I am expecting Slovaks Karol Beck, Dominik Hrbaty, Ivo Klec and Lukas Lacko to rise a lot. All four have few points to defend.
And Luczak, Lisnard, Julio Silva and Schukin should be back in shape in the clay season. 2009 could also well be a good year for Ball and Fischer, if they continue their 2008 form. I think Daniel Silva, James Ward, Andreas Haider-Maurer and Stéphane Robert will also rise quite a bit.
I am not expecting all that much from American players.Even though I simply cannot judge them very well, having never seen them play, I think Yani, Cook, Nuñez, Ouellette, Williams and Ryan Young might rise a fair bit. But Taylor Dent should be making some major strides too.

Agree with you on Carsten Ball and Yani. I think American Kevin Kim will also have success. Hopefully, Todd Paul will start competing in challengers.

Not more than Top 70, I think. Maybe he can reach a 3R at the AO/UO or Wimbledon with a good draw, but he might as well lose 1R at all. I don't think he'll be a threat.
