Somebody on rogerfederer.com posted the following groups:

1. Federer, Roddick, Davydenko, Gonzalez
2. Nadal, Djokovic, Ferrer, Gasquet.

Warning: I am VERY sceptical about the source, but theoretically it is possible.

Well, IMO if it had been Federer instead of Nadal, it would have been the worst group, because I've still hope than Richard can beat him, whereas beating Roger seems impossible.

No, the translations are correct. :o

Horrible group indeed. Djokovic instead of Davydenko, Ferrer (horrendous match-up :o ) instead of Roddick (bad form). Only good thing is that he got Nadal instead of Federer. That only means he'll have a 5% chance of winning the match instead of 1% though. :tape:

I'm really desperate :rolls: since FAG(aka Famous Ass Group) starts first, the only chance I can watch his match is the case he makes the SFs.
I don't know.. but it's not totally impossible if he could be aggressive.. given by the way he was beaten by Nadal and Djokovic.. (mentally he was beaten in MC and Estroil) even though it was on clay..
And one more thing, Richard took more games from Nalby than Nadal did. so he should beat Nadal if he recognizes this fact. :haha:

Well I thought meeting Nadal first would be good for him. Djokovic will be the thoughest player he faces, and Ferrer has a never-give-up attitude and I think Ferrer's game suits on hard more than Nadal's. So Nadal, of course, will be hard for him, but it will be not totally a beatdown and there will be a chance if he's aggressive... which is the problem though..
According to his play in Bercy, I realised he's always nervous in every match he plays.. let's hope he plays well in Shanghai.

11-07-2007, 03:58 PM
That's right !!
And in the same time, we could be surprised to see good results just because, he's gifted in many things.

I was the first to say Richard is really great, at the beginning, and then I was the first to say, he'll never do anything big, and now I just love what I see, he's very talented, and he needs time and occasions, but I'm sure he'll make the show...
Perhaps that won't be regular, but he is one of the best.

Someone gave hypothetic scores, I don't agree...
Nadal, 6/4 6/4
Djokovic, 7/5 6/3
Ferrer, 6/2, 6/7, 6/7

If he engages well, he can win against Ferrer. Ferrer is not always tough enough to win a big match. It's a possible match.

Aller Richard !!!!!!:)

Okay here's my thoughtful standpoint.
When I saw his draw, it couldn't be worse or somewhat he wouldn't be going to win a SINGLE match or so.. because his record has been horrible against players who are in the same group. Then thought again, however, his H2H against top players has been a kind of disasterous as well, so basically whatever he'd got the draw, he would've been the least favourite.
At least apparently he got a luck enough to make Shanghai.. Maybe he's thinking that he's just there for enjoying his first TMC or something like that. But if he gets his head together, he should get a big ambition for this and he should be aware that this might be the best chance to make things turn around since he's going to play only top players. He showed he could hold his nerves even though he played nothing special (against Murray).
If he just lets other players win and doesn't fight at all, we won't be able to expect that the next season would be better. I think this is the big crucial moment for him and playing against Nadal would tell everything for us as fans and FOR HIMSELF.
That being said, even if he loses (very likely), he should show some fighting spirits and give them some trouble to bode his next season well. Of course if he steps on the court as a better player, he must win. And I seriously think if he wins against Nadal, it'll definitely the biggest thing not just for a huge win, but for his whole career to come.
Nonetheless his triple defeats are really likely, so if it's the case AND it looks like beatdowns, I probably won't expect too much from him with my whole heart.

Schu
11-08-2007, 03:25 PM
He probably won't win a match but if he goes down really fighting through all 3 matches it will be huge progress. And anything else is laganiappe. I'm approaching this with the wimpy "It's not whether you win or loose but how you play the game" attitude - but hoping for much more.

Good luck, fight hard and have fun Richie!

Jozie
11-08-2007, 05:43 PM

And when his session with Roddick was supposed to end and Davydenko walked in, the two of them continued hitting. Davydenko and them didn't exchange any words and it was only when Davydenko started to head off did the two of them start to pack up. :o

Yeah this is positive side. I think he fought until the end. Maybe he could've won against Murray with this kind of fighting, but not enough to beat Nadal. But probably he's learned again that he should be more consistent and foucused on every point and in every game. Really one poor game or one poor point paid the price.
With his playing I can't stop being his fan. I admire his game and talent. I really hope he gets over these kind of defeats and becomes more consistent. If he starts to be consistent, I think he could demolish Nadal like Nalby did.

Okay Ferrer needs to go down in straights for Gasquet to be in the third spot. :rolls:

:yeah: Unfortunately that missed smash and the poorer quality of the serve cost him the second set. After that he was never as fluent as before, even if he put up a fight.

I am sad because Nadal was beatable today, on the other hand, Richard clearly showed that he is not going to be canon-fodder. Good luck in the next match.

Besides, I got just once more confirmation why I like his tennis so much, thatBH smash and the point for 5-4 3rd set were just breathtaking.

I think we should learn more to enjoy his (good) games then swallow the bad ones better and better :p

To be frank, Richie didnt show poor things today. Rafa is more mature on court, also we can name that mental strength. At the beginning, Richie was so good while Rafa was bad, I knew still Rafa could win :awww: coz we all know Rafa had the room to improve himself during the match while Richie would just slow down his serve and nerve. Thats Richie, it should be ok. It is good for him to feel disappointed. After this loss, he MUST win the next which seems kinda interesting to him :p

Like the thread title now. Richard you're ahead of Djoke.

Well I'm awake now after staying up till after 3am to see Richie (and a few games of Ferrer) and it's either play on this site some more or wash clothes/clean house ...
I'll take play on the site.

As the annoying British announcer, Robbie said, Richard played an almost flawless 1st set with perfect tactics. It's hard for anyone to sustain that level (especailly Richie)and as expected he had a "lull" - some might say brain cramp. That, coupled with a more motivated Nadal who changed up his tactics a little let Nadal back in. The positive thing is that even after he got broken, he did not cave and broke back. As dear Robbie the announcer also said after Richard broke back "The old Gasquet would have melted." And he didn't, at least not until the NEXT game, when he got broken again. But hey he's making progress...

Anyway a wonderful showing for his first ever Masters Cup match. Some of his shots/points were absolutely breathtaking and only reinforce why I LOVE to watch him play!

Richie, stay confident and aggressive and you can win at least one match. Ferrer sounds tough but Djoke looks beatable NOW.

I'm not sure which is good for him. I think it's obvious that he MUST win the other two matches no matter what the situation he will face.

when he will play his naxt match?
he plays Djokovic tomorrow not before 5pm local time. :)

I don't know... I didn't like Djoko, but I'm starting to hate Nadal, even more than Djoko. I just hate Djoko faking, not his game. But for Nadal, his moonballing is truely disgusting. Why didn't I figure that it is such an annoying thing? :o :o

BTW WTF is wrong with Roger? You cannot beat your-pigeon and current-has-been-in-slump Feña? :help:

Richard you can do that against Djoko.

I know, I don't know what is up with Roger these days. Although I didn't see the match so maybe it was just that Gonzalez played really well but I definitely didn't expect him to lose! I'm sure he will find his A game when he faces Andy though, he always does! :sobbing:

I can actually watch the match tomorrow (as long as I can get a livestream to work) since I finish uni at 9.20am. Hopefully it'll be a good match for me to watch with a nice result at the end!

Didn't the last 2 times Richie and Djoke play have really strange scores something like one tiebreak set with two 6-0/6-1 sets? I remember Estroil when RIchie totaly left the planet to get wiped out in the third set.

Richie if you come out firing like the first set with Nadal (AND STAY FIRING), Djoke hasn't got a chance - he'll be bouncing that ball a million times and I can't even guess how many injury time outs he'd take. I'll have to see it On Demand from my Masters Series TV subscription cuz it'll be on about 3:00 am. I love watching Richie but there is a limit.

ALLEZ RICHIE! You can take the faker!

I haven't seen the coffee-machine advert... which brand is it?

Btw... I have to confess I am not very optimistic for tomorrow. Djokovic has always won their previous matches and he is so tricky... in many ways. (it is true that he hasn't been really impressive against Ferrer, but it doesn't mean anything. He surely will rise his level next match... )

Moreover, I want so much to see Richard winning this match... that I prefer not to have my hope up. ( "à la Silverwhite" :o )

Anyway, good luck Richard. :worship:

With Fena prevailing today, Richie beating Djoke doesn't seem like such a tall task now. ;)

Allez, Richard!

for some reason I feel really positive about tomorrow and I'm really excited to see what it going to happen! :bounce: However this worries me as usually this kind of feeling is followed by a painful defeat! :sobbing:

I think it's because Roger lost to Gonzalez.. However, we have to be careful, Djoko is probably ready for taking the SF spot while Gasquet seems satisfied with his appearance in Shanghai.
Two matches against Djoko had weird scorelines and the last match was a bit of unlucky for him. I hope this time the scoreline is like 7:6 6:4.
Maybe the key is going to be his serve. His serve is usually good in the first but it drops in the second.
