Doubles: seeded 8th with a bye in the first round. Their opponents will be either Seb/Jo  or Allegro/Lindstedt.

I read that they were going to ask to have their first match on Thursday due to his injury(s).

Good luck to Misha against Gonzales
Though well, who knows, maybe Arnaud will be inspired with the great victories of his friend. The match is already tomorrow, by the way.

Of course it's tennis, but Seb and Arnaud playing against each other in doubles is such a wrong thing...

Totally agree. Surely that "Llodra" and "crazy" is a kind of synonymes but here he'd better beware of his own crazyness and receive proper healing.

and more of the same...

I saw the match. Arnaud just couldn't get his backhand into the court, basically. The first game he hit four great winners, then was sporadic after that point. He was spotty even in the three other games he got in the first set but was forcing play enough.

He was up 4-3* 30-15 and then error after error afterwards. :tape:

Clement reveals match-fix offer

Clement was not prepared to reveal details of the offer
Frenchman Arnaud Clement, a former top 10 player, has revealed he was offered money to throw a match.
"It happened to me but I will not tell you where or how," he said after his first-round defeat to Mikhail Youzhny at the Paris Masters on Monday.

"I didn't hesitate for a second, I said no," added the 29-year-old, now ranked 53rd in the world.

"It may be different for a guy who's not that high up in the rankings and who has financial problems."

[Match-fixing] is a dreadful disease which is a threat for tennis worldwide

French Tennis Federation (FFT) president Christian Bimes
Clement, runner-up at the 2001 Australian Open, added: "It's very serious. I can't imagine that a top 10 player could accept that but it's hard to imagine as well that guys go to tournaments to make such offers.

"I haven't heard many players say it happened to them."

Earlier on Monday French Tennis Federation (FFT) president Christian Bimes said organisers of the Paris event were taking the threat of possible match-fixing very seriously.

"We consider this a serious problem," Bimes said. "It is a dreadful disease which is a threat for tennis worldwide.

"We have to act straight away and be as severe with this as we are with doping," he added.

Betting on matches at the Paris event is being watched for anything suspicious, while matches are also being recorded and analysed by former players and ATP supervisors.

606: DEBATE
Gambling seems to be an ever increasing burden in the sport of tennis

TheOpinion
Players are also banned from betting at the venue.

"We have contacted police," said FFT general director Jean-Francois Vilotte.

"If we were to trace a suspicious amount of money placed on one match and to notice anything irregular during that match, we would hand over the information to police and they would launch an official investigation."

Britain's Andy Murray claimed earlier this month that "everyone knows" corruption goes on in tennis.

His comments came after a match in August between Russia's Nikolay Davydenko and lowly-ranked Argentine Martin Vassallo Arguello was voided by British online betting exchange Betfair because of unusual betting patterns.

Davydenko, who has strenuously denied any wrongdoing, was fined $2,000 (£976) for not trying hard enough during his defeat by Marin Cilic at the St Petersburg Open last week.

As Marine has already said, he was just asked a question and he's replied and that's all. It's a big issue these days so no wonder he wanted to give his opinion on this subject, moreover it has happened to him, too.
May also add that if he really wanted "faire parler de lui" he would at least have a normal website or was more "public" in general.
That depends on your posts per page :p
I have it on 40 ppp, so I'm still on 1 page
Good note

As for the main topic, I've seen a similar article here (http://www.grandchelem.net/mon_weblog/2007/10/arnaud-clment-s.html), and voila one more quote:

(Arnaud)

As I got it, he says that everyone happens to throw a match. When everything goes wrong and you're having a bad day - it may force you to give up. Arnaud admits that every year he has a couple (oh yes lol) of matches like that. So it's just like that and it shouldn't mean a person was offered money. If a player wishes to tank a match he's able to do it the way no one will notice anything. True, isn't it?

you know what, this quip should be very funny, unless when the stat is true... so he only won 20 matches this year???? :o that's like one match per tournament on average... ok i suppose that's close :o

as for arnaud's admission that he has been 'touched' by match fixing... well i guess it's his turn finally, everyone is putting his two cent in these days.

what, he admits he tanks a couple of matches a year? only??

btw arnaud, tanking is also a crime in this sport, even if everyone does it sometimes

Yes, not a so much impressing number if so. With his great results in doubles the singles scores somehow went out of sight. In general it was "moyen quoi" as Arnaud rated it himself.

It came to your paper from London? A long way though.

Well, I've seen sounds of this story even in an Argentina's ( :help: ) newspaper. Also it was written there about Micka's reaction that he also got such an offer 4 years ago and that he thinks it's really difficult to do anything with it because there are too powerful people behind all of this.

Now after having seen so many mentions of "St. Petersburg" concerning to the tennis topic I start thinking this is a kind of a campaign to attract attention to our tournament... lol

Fan of Pink Floyd ? :)

thanks for the cute picture!

Thanks for the link!

I wasn't sure what you meant about the yellow canary shorty until I saw the video!

Fabrice's is funny. Also, Arnaud appears briefly in the Karlovic one.

Good luck to you for realizing your Marseille plans :)

And a little note: after making a SF in Bercy the crazy couple moved up to the 8th place so this way they're getting even the direct classification for the Masters Cup.

i think that is an important distinction.. no more controversy on their wildcard status now.

(another screen cap to celebrate...)

:woohoo:  :bounce:  :worship:

I really hope they show something of doubles on tv, but I guess I'll have to be happy with a minute summary. It's hard to find men's tennis on national tv here these days

I feel so lucky, ESPN is showing the singles and TTC is showing the doubles! :)

Via, those are historical caps  Thank you!
I just went looking for the Aix challenger, it wasn't on the calender for a few years. Does anyone know what happened to it?
Maybe some juicy story like what happened to the Hilversum challenger? :p
Unfortunately some Challengers disappear all the time (e.g. as soon as I discovered there was St. Petersburg Challenger it was erased from the list!) And I guess the reasons are various. BTW, do you know if there are already some Challengers in 2008 calendar by this moment? Fan of Pink Floyd ? :)
Well, I can't call myself being a fan of any musicians but Pink Floyd is between my favorites :)

No, I didn't see any calendar for 2008, but I guessed that if the Aix challenger wasn't played in 2007 it won't be back in 2008

Yeah, the reasons are various. For the Hilversum challenger it was that the tournament director was an imposter and is in jail for 5 years now :p
Quite the sensation in the Dutch tennisworld. Well, at least it's exciting here sometimes when it comes to tennis ;)

 I'm really sorry to hear that about Aix Challenger, it was a nice event indeed (if my memory is not wrong a couple of years ago there was a match Clement vs Devilder lol)!

And that's an impressing story with Hilversum! When did it happen? I believe this year there was a similar thing with some Challenger in Poland.

...this could be a good OFF-topic for the OFF-season

Sure you know :p

Yeah, I like Aix also better than Marseille, so it would be nicer to go there :)

It happened in 2005, this man was also Fred's sponsor for a year or so. But luckily they ended the contract at the end of the year and the man got arrested a few months after. I was really shocked and would like to know what Fred thinks about all of this. But a lot of Dutch tennisplayers said at the time that they don't want to comment on the affair, so I never dared to ask :p There were like 1200 people and the tournament director owed them all together about 125 million euros  It was a sort of 'pyramid game' he built. I just translated it literally from Dutch, so I don't know if anyone knows what it means. Just tell me and I'll try to find a translation, don't have time to look it all up now :)

And I work at an entertainment store, so it's maybe not smart to say.
But I also know the 'classics' when I hear them and even though I recognize the songs, it doesn't imply that I know who sings them :tape:
