I live there and I can't wait! Nice to see Fred here for the 1st time (and who knows how long is gonna play) and Peter, Philip. And it's nice that Pokrajac got a wildcard. Don't know anything about him besides his name so it's going to be interesting to get to know a new player.
The organizers said last year that we'll get new seats and I hope they will keep their word. My butt took days to recover last year.

So Porkrajac and Bester are the first two wildcards.

They should give one to Duclos but they probably wont, I dunno why. And maybe to Vasek?

Why Vasek

Why not Vasek. Especially with Duclos not coming. Berard doesnt have any real potnetial, Chvokja could get one no doubt but the rest of the ranked Canadians cant even qualify for a futures event. Vasek just started playing in qualifiers regularly and he could use some help and experience.

By the way, whats going on with Steckley, is he retired?

I was not implying that the WC should go to a Canadian player, I was simply asking what I think is a legitimate question

No point in helping the Americans, they dont help Peter :p

Obviously if they can get a topish play than sure, but there is no point in giving it to a Phillip Simmonds type of player like they did in Vancouver

Of course, no WC should be given to an American player  considering the number of Challengers played in the US.

Why not give a WC to an European player who has not entered the tournament

I just meant that Flavio should have decided to play here cause of the poor field. He has a great shot at doing very well here, better than in the South American tourneys IMO.

It's very difficult to attract European players to challengers in Canada after September (travel , weather  , prize money in US $ ). The presence of any reasonably good Euro player would benefit this challenger.

for european players travelling costs about 1000 Euros or so...for qualifiying? If you not do so...you will earn nothing!!! And if you get through it (easier okay, because of weak draw) then you earn 200$ or so for 1st round, for 2nd round its about 500$ or so...and for such players it is normally not possible to go further...so it is only under 10% chance that you have a chance to earn money....

I know one foreign player who did not go to Canada because he could not get a Visa to go there, so he's left the USA for a week. Maybe some of the others had the same problem. Some of the Americans have gone to Korea because it's a much bigger event. Shame to see this happen.

Unfortunately he seems to have retired, along with Robert Dee, who is just as bad, if not worse, and was about 5 losses away from setting a new world record for successive losses (Dee hasn't played since May, which is a shame as he was getting closer to winning a set)

Us Brits don't have any hopeless player to idolise any more, so we are waiting for the next player to come through the ranks

And this is a good chance for Bye to pick up some ranking points here (if Fleishman pulls out, does that mean that Bye beats him and makes the second round?)

Pajkowski is from BC and was playing tennis at the University of New Mexico up until now. He's supposed to start playing professionally in 2008, mostly in doubles though.

Excellent, I didnt know a thing about him, but it sounds like hes a decent player with maybe a bit of a future. Taking 7 games from Fleishman in his second challenger tournament is quite a goood result, Fleishman can play.

Fred is the last hope for Canadians..

I read that in Fred's first match, even though he won the first set 7-5, he didn't drop a single service point

and I was watching the live feed for the Karagiannis/Mamiit vs Pokrajac/Villar match just now and I was extremely unimpressed with Pokrajac and Villar, well just Villar. His serves and shot making were atrocious and after seeing him play, I am not shocked that Michel-Alexandre Rioux beat him. If it weren't for Milan the score would've been 6-0 6-0, I don't even know how it got so close :tape: They even had two set points in the first set.

Maybe because there was a 0-6 1-6 loser in the other team. ;) Karagiannis doesn't win matches regularly.

Did the stream work the whole day? For me it didn't, but I only tried in the first match.

Villar was injured and in pain. He tried to put a bottle of cold water on his right shoulder during changeovers (don't know why he didn't ask for ice). I'm sure he has a better serve that we saw yesterday. Anyway, I was sitting not to far behind Villar in the stand and at some point during the 2nd set, the tournament referee (I think it was him) went to talk to him during a changeover and told him that next time he would be getting a code violation. "play or retire" he told him. There were like 3 languages in that conversation so I'm not sure what it was all about. I must have miss something during the match.

I'd say he's had a bit of a mental set-back after all hype in late summer, which wouldn't be strange he was literally praised into the heavens.

Well, I spoke with John when he was in Sweden practicing for Davis Cup and he had pretty bad food poisoning and then flew back the next day to play a challenger in the US. He was in no physical condition to play a tournament right after that and lost in the second round to Wolmarans. Otherwise, his only other result was losing to Robert Kendrick, who is a tough customer himself.

Soulja Boy

Isner holds with an ace. Ilija leads 7-6(4) *2-2.

TankingTheSet

Ouch! Bad call against Isner, Bozoljac just hit a passing shot wide on break point and the umpire didn't see it. :o

Isner can afford to lose, his priority will probably be early next year when he will get plenty of wildcards into ATP tourneys (or even the AO).
