I loathe this time of year.

Andy has a jam packed schedule for the few weeks, so he clearly enjoys the indoor season more than I do.

Metz up first starting tomorrow. His draw is okay, apart from an evil 1st round against Tipsarevic.

[1] ROBREDO, Tommy ESP v MAYER, Florian GER
CLEMENT, Arnaud FRA v SEPPI, Andreas ITA
QUALIFIER v GROSJEAN, Sebastien FRA
KOUBEK, Stefan AUT v [6] SIMON, Gilles FRA

[4] MATHIEU, Paul-Henri FRA v BENNETEAU, Julien FRA
[WC] MONTCOURT, Mathieu FRA v MAHUT, Nicolas FRA
MASSU, Nicolas CHI v LAPENTTI, Nicolas ECU
SANTORO, Fabrice FRA v [8] ANDREEV, Igor RUS

[7] KOHLSCHREIBER, Philipp GER v CALLERI, Agustin ARG
WAWRINKA, Stanislas SUI v TSONGA, Jo-Wilfried FRA
LLODRA, Michael FRA v ESCHAUER, Werner AUT
TIPSAREVIC, Janko SRB v [3/WC] MURRAY, Andy GBR

[5] STARACE, Potito ITA v QUALIFIER
GICQUEL, Marc FRA v [WC] SERRA, Florent FRA
QUALIFIER v QUALIFIER
MONFILS, Gael FRAQUALIFIER v [2] CANAS, Guillermo ARG

Actually that draw looks awful after a few viewings.

After Metz he's down for Moscow, Madrid, St Petersburg and then Paris.

The brothers Murray lost their doubles match today. They played Aspelin and Knowles, so not a big shock. Hopefully the extra match practise will help Andy. He plays Llodra next.

Detailed match report from the BBC.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/7030780.stm

Murray beats Tsonga to reach semi

Andy Murray reached his first ATP Tour semi-final since March with a 6-3 6-3 win over Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the Moselle Open.

Murray has had a barren second half to the year after injuring his wrist in Hamburg in May, but he was near his best against Tsonga.

Murray broke three times in the first set and a single break was enough to take a tighter second.

Murray will face second seed Guillermo Canas in the last four.

Good win over Ali...

now Canas, i really hope he can do him

Canas has made me suffer over the years, he always beat my faves and in close matches.

btw I_mac, the indoor season is great :p no rain, day and night matches, loadsa tournies.

brilliant ;)

Muz should have plenty left in the tank for his schedule, he's fresh from hardly playing in the middle o the year.

Hardly any televised tournaments though, and everything feels like it's winding down.

I wonder if Sky will buy the rights to broadcast the final, should Andy make it?

Good luck Muzza..

I think Andy should take it in three... Although Canas hasn't been in the greatest form recently so things might not be so tight.

Yes I watched from the end of the first set onwards.

'Wtf?' Pretty much sums up the whole afternoon.. The only explanation that I can come up with for the turn around was Andy deciding that patting the ball back was the best way to take the second , and then consequently the third set. Apart from that he had a mental meltdown.. slamming balls into the net and throwing his racquet a few times. Robredo on the other hand stayed professional throughout. Not exactly giveaways, but close enough.. Judy held a couple of "Guess the # of aces that Andy will serve in the match" contests and a "How many games will he play in Madrid" thing.. the winners will get Andy's match shirts and an autographed Madrid program.

That was a thoroughly entertaining match! Both boys played spectacularly. It was one of those matches you want both players to win. I have to admit I'm a bit of a Nadal fa. I always want Andy to win... Unless he's playing Rafa! Total points won was 87-85. I think that's pretty impressive! But Rafa won the ones that mattered, that's why he's #2!

Still, it's 2-0 H2H now, I think the next one will be Andy's!

I've grown to like Murray now he's sorted out his temper I think he is a much better player. However his voice when he is being interviewed does annoy me !

Win in St Petersberg Andy :yeah:

Its a weird one...

you think he is playing great when he pushes Nadal in a match then the next match Nadal gets mashed and you think ' infact is he really playing that well ??'

just hope he can have 1 (or why not 2) big results left from these next 2 weeks.

if you wanna play crap this week Muzza to save yourself to win Paris AMS next week, then do so

Ease up, H8er Boi! Nadal played a whole lot better against Andy than he did against Nalby :ras:

Murray is 2nd up on Centre Court tomorrow. Muzz vs Max follows the pretty boy battle between Lapentti and Ancic.

Fabulous result!!

I didn't see the match, but I am delighted with the score. Maybe I should change the thread title to "Murray will win Paris-Bercy. Maybe."

Yep, st muzzasburg champion! :D
now Paris, realistic id say he needs a Semi Final.... because their are just too many players in with a shout all around the same points mark and at least 1 of them is bound to win 2-3 matches, if not even better.

but at least he's ending the year on a high!

Although unlikely, Novak may also be just a little unmotivated, with having already qualified for the YEMs; which would help Andys cause even more.

Lets hope Andy can go far in this tournament; a good performance and going deep would not only give him the chance of qualifying for Shanghai but give him plenty of confidence if/when he gets there.

Hi Guys :wavey: .I haven’t been here in a long time!

Im really glad to hear that andy is doing good and that he now has a great opportunity in this tournament with Novak out.

Do any of you know how good of a result andy needs to make it to Shanghai?

l_mac
11-01-2007, 01:22 AM
Elikian posted an excellent summary of what needs to happen for every player still in contention to qualify for Shanghai. Here is Andy's summary:

Murray:
W secured
F (Haas, Robredo not F, Canas not W)
SF (and Haas, Robredo not SF, Berdych not F, Canas, Youzhny, Baghdatis not W)
QF (and Haas, Robredo, Blake not QF, Berdych, Gasquet, Canas, Youzhny not F, Baghdatis, Nalbandian not W)

So basically, if Andy wins Paris he qualifies regardless. Any other result and he is reliant on what the players around him do :)
