Sure, Pete.

And we will have to read this nonsense for at least another year.

it's good to see the entire quote. the article i quoted before ("Now Matthieu spanks Sampras") deleted the more arrogant sounding statements. i don't know if this is confidence or just delusional thinking on his part

Despite the setback, Sampras thinks he can win the U.S. Open.

"You have to remember who I am and where I'm playing next week. The U.S. Open is where you shine, and that is where I hope to shine," said Sampras, who was seeded third here. "I'm not the man to beat like I once was - Lleyton Hewitt has taken that role. But I'm still one of the favorites.

"The days of me dominating and being No. 1 are probably over. My goal is to win another major and, hopefully, destiny will be on my side at the Open. It just takes one close win and things can turn around quickly."

Last year's runner-up here, Sampras has not reached the quarterfinals of any event since appearing in the final of the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships in May. He has not won a title since Wimbledon 2000.

I again cant see anything out of normal with his words... :o

I hope he can play well. He was a lot of fun last year before the final against Lleyton.

If Pete can't believe in himself he might as well just go home. I think it is good to hear Pete say that. He has confidence. I have heard players say worse!

He is just trying to pump himself up. I hope he can do well, but I will be suprised to see him get to week 2.

I feel a bit guilty right now. :o

Last year I did the same to Lleyton, saying that he has no chance to win, and we all know what happened.

And now I have done it again.

OMG. :o

I did it once again. Last year I posted the thread 'At least Lleyton won't win a slam anytime soon' and now this one. :o

Next year, just tell me the player you want to win and I will write him off. ;)

It looks like Pete will be retiring now since he wants to end it with a "big bang".

Am also guilty of saying that although I thought Pete would get well into the 2nd week - because of his performances the last 2 years when he also did precious little beforehand - I did not think he would get to the final let alone win.
He has proved us all wrong, though I wish Agassi had proved me right!
