Robredo sinks the Fish, 6-4 3-6 6-4 6-7 6-4

Lots of ups and downs in this entertaining match. Tommy had a match point on his own serve in the 4th set tb, and choked. Mardy went up *4-2 in the 5th, only to be broken at love and pretty much self-destruct, including a double fault when serving *4-4 30-40 :help: . The Fish lost the last 5 games of the match.

Next up is Gulbis, good opportunity for Boredo to advance to the second week.

Fisherman is a major tool. What a choke. Maybe if the queer wore some socks he would have better luck.

And where it mattered, Fish shitted his pants like a five year old boy.

Typical from a USTA boy.

Btw Fish's volleys are worse than Alun Jones's. :help:

Up 4-1 and unable to close out against Robredo, Fish should just retire.

I honestly thought Fish had it in the bag after holding a tight game for 4-1.... I was wrong. The fact that he's never made the third round here obviously played a part, but that's still a dreadful collapse.

Robredo, on the other hand, maintains his remarkable record of never losing a five-setter away from RG - he was in real jeopardy of doing so having blown matchpoints in the fourth.

If it's true Todd Martin is actually helping Fish with his volleys, then Fish must be the worst student in the world.

Bad choke Mardy, from 4:1* (30-15) to quick 4-6 :rolleyes:

At least Tommy hasn't disappointed me today. Can't wait to see him go against Gulbis, who is one of my up and coming faves.

He hasn't lost a match after wasting MP for almost 4 years.

Besides not being able to put the volley shots into the court, when they get into the court, they are just predictable and with lots of time to his opponent make the passing shot.

He makes Roddick look like Sampras.

Typical Boredo victory. He doesn't do anything special, his opponent just self-destructs. So frustrating.

Well fought Tommy, even though Fish did hand it to you on a plate with some of the shots he played (DF on break point, the volley he missed in the last game), but he hit some great winners in the last few games.

Tommy has a great chance to defend his points here, and will end the year in the top 10 again, and attempt to shut up the haters (will never happen though, unfortunately)

Very good finish from T-Rob :yeah:
good fight, but should have win in tiebreak before ;)

Fish only wears lower socks and not so high like Ljubicic who has almost knee socks (looks crap) :lol:

Yeah, you'd think if he was going to NOT lose a five-setter somewhere it'd be at RG, but no.

He has had big five-set wins there of course, over both Hewitt and Safin, but it must hurt that the three losses came at his three best showings at the event, including two QFs.

Good fight from Robredo.

Needs to shave his hair off though. He looks like satan himself, aka Gary Neville with it at that length.
I don't like to be reminded of Neville ever.

Some stats about their tie-breaks... They have been playing 3 tie-breaks against each other and every time Fish won after saving set point:
Madrid '03: 7-6(14) -> 7 setpoints
Davis Cup '04: 7-6(8) -> 3 setpoints
US Open '07: 7-6(7) -> 2 setpoints (matchpoints)

Agreed. I think Martin got frustrated trying to work with him. I just watched Martin play in a senior match and he still has much better volleys than Fish. He's amazing up at the net, especially with low balls. I would have thought that some of that would have rubbed off on Fish.
