Why is Moya having such a good year?

He just turned 31 about a week ago. Starting in May 2005 he fell from being a top 10 player to around 30-50. He is now ranked 17 and could get into the top 10 (conceivably) by the end of the year with good showings at the US Open and the 2 remaining Masters Series events.

Any ideas why?

Si, si ... he always drinks a glass of quality red wine before he takes to the court. :)

Or maybe he's concentrating on his tennis playing after his supposed break up with Flavia ..?

Or maybe I don't know ... but it's good, isn't it? ;)

He's leading the Russian guy Kunitsyn 2 sets to love now ... expected win here.

The Lord is ageless, he laughs at the prospect of aging.

Also he's probably hitting the party scene again now that he's not in a serious relationship anymore, girls are his fountain of youth. :p

He has been hitting his backhand a lot better recently. I don't know when he learned to do that.

He has found again his motivation and it is important that he is also healthy now, he had shoulder problems in 05 and 06.

Back to Top 10. that's questionable. I don't believe he can get back to Top 10.

But he's playing very well, I believe His energy is very positive. Good luck Moya

Also, His body looks very good to play.

I have no idea why but you gotta love him for that. If Navratilova could play at 47 i don't see why he can't :p
And yes, his body is looking mighty good :lick:

He's a strong guy, manages well to avoid injuries, and most of all, I think he still enjoys playing a lot. Good for him, hope he'll stay around a couple of years more! :yeah:

He just loves the game and has refound his motivation. Somewhere he said that after winning Davis Cup he wasn't as motivated. Factor that in with the injuries and you have a slump.

 Moya has always had a good year followed by a couple of so-so ones....in 98 he won RG, briefly got to No 1 in the world in 99 before back injury...then in 2002 he won Cincy....2004 he was up to 4 in the world....now 2007 he's probably going to be Top 15 by end of USO.

his movement is still elite. Until that aspect leaves him, carlos will always have the chance to play great tennis.

 Hell yeah :p

Carlos is like a fine wine a truly classy guy. Also a great competitor has given us soo many thrills and spills over the years.

He has an amazing Fh a very good serve, and is very solid in all other departments in BH was better earlier on in is career he'd have at least 3 slams I think.

form is temporary, class is permanent ;) :)

very true. people wrote off Carlos but i always found this so stupid because it was clear that his shoulder was the only thing preventing him from playing his best - he didn't suddenly forget how to play tennis.

it has been a very validating year to be a loyal Moya supporter

i think the more accurate thing to say is that Moya has suffered career threatening injuries 3 times in his career and whenever they have not been a factor he's been a top 10/5 player.

He is one of the best players on the tour, so, it's no surprise that he is having a good year.

has rediscovered his forehand- pretty much a rifle shot

backhand getting more reliable and solid keeping him in the points

serve is also like his FH, a rifle shot

worked hard on his fitness and naturally very athletic

has more all round game and all court talented now, with good net play

He doesn't feel that much pressure anymore and he has a lot of experience.
And it's all in the mind, if you are motivated it's possible to play at a high level well past 30.
Good luck to him, he seems a nice guy :)

He has been hampered with injuries throughout his career and this had a big influence on his results.
At the moment he's injury free, has a good coach and is motivated :)
Let's hope he can keep this form now :yeah:
