I couldn't watch the match. Was Davy in the zone or was Kiwi not feeling it today?

Kolya just killed Kiwi

Both, really.

Davydenko served awesomely well - powerfully, well-placed, very high 1st serve % - I gather he conceded something ridiculous like 15 points on serve all match - in 12 service games.

Kiefer, meanwhile, persisted right through the match with a somewhat boneheaded, stubborn net-charge tactic. Davydenko repeatedly passed him or dumped the ball low and Kiefer had to make a lot of difficult volleys, which of course several of them he missed.

Ah ok. I thought Kiwi's variety would give him a fighting chance but looks like he made tactical errors throughout the match.

Yes and he persisted with them long after it was clear that it was just not working.

He defeated Davydenko 61 61 the last time they played so this was somewhat unexpected.

Interestingly enough that 6-1 6-1 pasting is Davydenko's only loss at the Moscow event since 2003.

Maybe Kiefer in his presser can explain what he was thinking - it certainly was not clear to me.

Then why has he made 3 semifinals?

And to think I was worried he might lose this one. Quite the massacre it turned out to be.

His problem is consistency beyond the QF in slams.

Donkey is playing good where the money is. He always peaks for the big money. He should reach the Semifinals imo.

What a letdown after the good Spadea display, but just so typical. Unbelievable how pathetic Kiefer played :o  Davydenko served very high percentages and was much better in all other departments as well.

If he hadn't gone to the net, he would have lost the baseline point anyway in 90% of all exchanges.

Of course you have absolutely no business against a constant and high-ranked player like Davydenko.

Ah ok. I thought Kiwi's variety would give him a fighting chance but looks like he made tactical errors throughout the match.
It wasn't a tactical error (maybe if he had done 10 other things better, you could start there), he was throughout pathetically playing without any energy, fight or positive sign to turn around this match at any stage.

I thought Kiefer would have given Kolya some trouble.

Neely

I thought the same, he should have made it much harder for Kolya and expected something better of Kiefer. He must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed today, but that's so typical for him sometimes. A really bad and disappointing performance and if you're playing like this, you deserve to get triple "to 2"-bagelled.

davydenko really is a machine. he doesn't care about autographs, his fans, photos etc. he's only friendly and playing good where the money is. you won't see him into tennis after his career. he's not the person to help others learning to play tennis etc. pathetic character he has.

Oh, blow it out your ass. You make stuff up as if it's factual and then when someone proves you wrong you act like that validates your point.

Try again.

Davydenko's a pro. He's a solid, level headed and very intelligent guy. Most people don't like this. They prefer hypocrite conformists like Blake. Such is life.

The world cheers for Kirby Puckett types who make eyes at the crowd whenever they're not beating their wives at home. But a guy who dares to maintain his own personal space rather than sell himself like a cheap hooker is considered to be 'not nice'.

Exactly. If Davydenko didn't play Federer or Nadal in his semifinals, I'm sure he'd be a three-time Slam finalist. :) Of course Davy would lose in the final. :) But if Davy were to play Nadal or Federer in a Grand Slam, I sure hope that he would beat them, even if it's in straight tiebreak sets.
